Good point Pete - I remember having an issue with a PA tweeter due to a sh*tty earth. Sounded like somebody had slashed the cone with a razor blade. Turned out that the refrigerator units that were on the same power line were having quite a nasty influence.

Anyone using Barefaced compact 15 with a big valve head(200watt)?
It wouldn't be so bad if you were trying to be helpful, but all you are doing is making snide comments because this thread mentions the Barefaced word. You are quick to refer to BF users as "fanbois", and yet look at your own username! Or is that ironic? If you have something constructive to say, I'm all ears - but otherwise, haven't you got something better to do?
If you look back at the thread, you'll notice that I did not start any negativity towards Barefaced cabs. In fact, I do not make any snide comments towards them at all. With regards to the inefficiency of the Big One, it is a well known fact that the Big One required a lot of power to get it working to it's potential and Alex commonly said to users that the reason that they weren't getting the most out of their new purchase is that they weren't using an amp with a high enough output. In fact, his recommended amp of choice at the time was the Hartke LH1000 - due to it's large power output. In fact, I had a young chap come to me after the forum widely suggested the BigOne would be the answer to all his problems when he was driving it with a 250w amp. He saved hard, bought the BF cab and had miserable results. It was never going to work - and the BF response - the amp is the problem. No, the amp isn't the problem - that amp was plenty loud enough to gig with, it just needed pairing with the right cab. Bad advice from the forum and bad advice from BF because they knew the BigOne needed an amp with serious output to drive it properly. With regards to the "Goddamit it's about the amp", I was trying to bring the thread back to being about the Aguilar because discreet seemed to be concentrating on talking us about his experiences with his Big One which was clearly a defence of the cab rather than anything to do with the Aguilar and your problem. My "Clearly" comment was a response, again to discreet, which was tinged with sarcasm because there is clearly a problem with the Aguilar and BigOne combination, otherwise there would not be this thread. It happens - as i have mentioned early in my response. He was mounting an attack on me over an apparent Bareface "attack" when in fact, I hadn't actually mentioned anything negative about Bareface at all. All I had said is that the Barefaced BigOne is an inefficient cab in terms of power in to spl out... which it is and which is widely acknowledged. And where have I referred to "fanbois"? The problem with this community is that everybody sees the "EBS_freak" handle in a Barefaced thread and assumes that there is slagging off... but if you read my comments, they are based on the truth, yet people seem to warp them into some sort of attack. With regards to my username, everybody is entitled to use whatever username they want... fan boy or not. With regards to irony, yes, there is some irony in it, because I currently don't actually use any EBS gear whatsoever. Anyway, back to point... Frankly, handle problems, feet problems, distortion problems et al shouldn't be presented on cabs of this price point.... but if people want to buy them, that's their right. But me pointing out the deficiencies of a cab whether it be Hartke, Barefaced, EBS (yes, you'll see that I slag off their single 10s and singles 12 neos - cos they are absolutely rubbish), Aguilar, or whatever, is also my right. Nobody likes their choice of gear being criticised but it's life, so take that cotton wool off. If you want some advice, check out your amp with another cab. Hey, you may even like it.

Clearly.
Possibly, but I found it very easy to drive with a 350/500w amp.
Goddamit it's about the amp man!

Hey if it sounds good, what's the problem?
-
Big compromise in tone expected
Try telling Anthony Jackson that... or Mike Gordon... or Phil Lesh... or... PA speakers have made some of the most awesome onstage rigs.
-
There's no reason you'd have this problem with a Big One...
The Big One was the most inefficient of them all.

Now be quiet and check out some real bass playing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A82RlqBOpB8
I have to admit I'm still buzzing after spending the weekend working alongside Roger Sadowsky. He was just such a nice guy and had a really refreshing attitude to producing a bass for a 'working' musician. Of course, I now have major Sadowsky GAS - just when I thought I was more or less happy with my basses!
It must be love Barrie!

:-p You have a good show anyway?
I cut the string beyond the tuning post about to about the same length as the average penis.
We going with vintage or modern stats?
-
I really should read this stuff before I post it. Turned round and you where gone and I didn't see you the rest of the day which was a pity.
where? a long trip back from London I'm guessing!?
-
I now purposefully learn new songs all fretted on the five string as it makes key changes easy as pie!
To think you were a diehard 4 player... At least you got there in the end!
Point of order, Kate Bush is certainly NOT a genius!
I dunno, kept out of the bs music industry for much of her life... Seems a smart move.
I spoke to the P&D guy about it for a while and I don't think they both work the same way as far as I understood it. The guy I had with me to play demos was equally impressed with it. I was surprised how well it translated all the notes even when played at speed or slapped. I was genuinely impressed with how well it work.
Now that makes it even more difficult - if the technologies are different that is!!
-
Tried the P&D one on the Sunday morning before the show opened and was really impressed with it. Did not try the Tec Amp version because I did not see it until the break down.
Bummer - now I am a bit miffed I couldn't go... both under one roof!
-
Also probably worth putting this up too GF - PB S: 12,5 kg, 27,6 lbs PB M: 16,5 kg,36,4 lbs PB L: 19,5 kg, 43,0 lbs P&D comes in at 13kg... but then then theres the amp on top... 5.9kg / 9.5kg / 3.4kg depending upon which of the P&D amps... vs 1.45kg for the amp. Im guessing that you could in theory use any old amp with the PB but I would be wary of what I would plug into the P&D one considering it has 150w handling vs 600w @ 8ohm of the tecamp. As you can see, this all makes for an interesting shootout. BGM are you reading this?

The Tecamp certainly looks very favourable in that department.
-
Not a worry for me - I am as visually boring as John Deacon!! Out of interest what does the Tecamp Please Board cost?
Depends upon the size - they do three sizes. From memory, the largest board with the pleasure pump(!) amp is circa 800 quid.
-
I did really like the Porter and Davies product and feel that would really enhance my gig enjoyment but not sure that I could stump up £1k easily for that pleasure.
I was gutted I wasn't well enough to come to the show as this is the product I was interested in. I'd like to know how it compares to the tecamp pleasure board. I know that p&d have been pushing this - but it's not new tech - but maybe they've taken it somewhere over and above the pleasure board. Of course, the big downside of this type of monitoring system is that it kinda cements you to the spot - which can be a little visually boring.
ACS ?
Probably would be ACS but it was CIEM company that exhibited.
I can't make it but can anyone tell me if the folks that make the ear moulds are there and the name of the company at all please? I spoke with them last year about getting a pair made but completely forgot the name of the company.... Anyone able to help?
Paul @ http://www.custom-inearmonitors.co.uk
Excellent time today. Thanks to everyone that dropped by. Found the volume at my end of the hall to be pretty good I think the volume was higher at the other end according to people I spoke to. Place was really busy despite the negative comments which was very encouraging for tomorrow and future shows.
Good stuff - I always think that the exhibitors are in a win or lose situation depending upon their placement. Sounds like you bagged a good spot if the volume was low!
