mr zed -- how did you get on?

If this is the keys player I think it is, he's a pretty good busker so you wouldn't likely scare him off that easily skank. He'd be ripping it up all over whatever was being played!

keeping the shiny look of a Warwick wenge fingerboard
EBS_freak replied to Kev's topic in Repairs and Technical
Carnuba wax will do it. I apply it to a custom strat I have. Keep applying it and polishing and it will eventually go to a high sheen - but not a gloss as such. I think that's where you want to be, shiny but not that wet look gloss look. -
Anyway .....yamaha rbxa2=mitsi evoX
I'd have it down more as a Honda CRZ. Futuristic looks, sleek, looks oh so great in white, LEDs spattered around the controls but ultimately, doesn't perform in line with how it looks.

I was with you up to the Porsche 911 bit...

You could always get a standalone PoE injector. Keeps the stage cleaner.

OK - I've not seen the naming on the latest iPad app but it sounds like they are responding to user requests, which is typical of A&H. This is what I love about these mixers - they are constantly evolving and you can add more functionality based on just software. Brilliant really. Yeah - the ME has a bit of catching up to do - but it'll get there. Presumably you are running your ME1 with power adapter? When I was looking at equipping the band with ME1s, I was looking at a PoE solution. The A&H hub is pretty pricely - I did see a thread on the net somewhere where somebody was running them all up on an old cisco PoE router... Seems like the way to go for me. I hate power adapters and wires everywhere!

Cool - was going to take a look for you when I got back but it sounds like your are sorted. A&H support is really good - and they do tend to release a lot of firmware... which I actually think is a really good thing. Not only does it iron out any bugs, there's a lot of extra features going in all the time - usually from feedback direct or off the support forums. The QU16 really is a game changer for most small bands. If they pushed a QU24 or maybe even a QU32 (althought they are fast approaching GLD territory there) they would hit a home run. (Having said that, the GLD has a lot of features that the QU16 hasn't got so extended channel count may not be such a detraction from the GLD stuff anyway). The channel naming is a bit of a tricky one as there are no digital scribble pads... being named in the screen could be quite useful... although I think the biggest bonus could be seeing channel names in the iPad app. Who knows? Maybe they will, maybe they won't! Did you ever see the Camryn A&H rig I posted?

I'm not sure where it is on the QU16 - but theres a pre/post option - or a direct out. On the latest GLD update there was the ability to return the fx to your ME one. I would imagine the same configuration will exist on the QU16, or at least be addressed in the next firmware for QU16. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've just seen the last firmware being released for QU16. As for the cable, some zip ties along the lead should see you good. A&H are really good on firmware updates - all the requests bar one I've asked for on their forums have been implemented. Still waiting for the ability to record a number of tracks to USB like the QU16 allows - but I suspect it won't be made available for the GLD series due to the possible impact it may have on their Dante card sales.

You got a great system there. I make no secret of being an a&h digital desk fan. Me1 is super good isnt it? As for buds, Shure 425s or Sennheiser IE80 with comply tips. The Sennheiser probably develops more bass than the Shure but seems to be more picky with ear fitment than the Shure.

Carlbro Bass Bomber. Wow... I'm surprised.

I don't know what the score is with the LBGS but typically show frown upon you bringing your own gear in. Too easy for you to carry a gig bag with a POS in and swap it for something nice off a stand. Having taken my bass to Messe, they run a system where the bass is checked in, stickered and then you have to check it out again when you leave. It's a nightmare having it checked in and out and involved a lot of standing about waiting. My advice would be not to bother. Also, if you are told you can bring it, then you get there and you are told that you can't take it inside, where do you leave your bass then?
Good spot sir Lol. Yep every I speak to Funkle Dave, he tells me I should be getting a Bongo. When someone that good tells you to try something, it's probably worth trying.
It's all about what works for you - he's a thumper and I'm a tickler! Like chalk and cheese. The thing which interests me most about the Bongo though, is the circuit.
My mate's got a couple of Bongos and is always trying to convert me. As he's left handed and I'm "NORMAL", it's not as if I can play his so I've yet to try one.
That bloomin' DC gets everywhere Yeah, I thought that orange bongo looked pretty sweet too!

Check this thread- http://basschat.co.uk/topic/214429-wireless-systems-for-bass/ It's great that more and more units are beginning to appear. I noticed the Alesis one - not crazy on the pack and cable configuration but for that money, if it works, that's a great system. I wouldn't want to venture far from the receiver but in terms of just getting a cable out of the way, it's got to be a winner. I know cables that have cost more than that Alesis unit! Would be great to hear feedback on the Alesis kit.

Absolutely - you don't get with bands like that without cutting the mustard! Man can't survive on an Avalon U5 alone! The Great Room is on my hotel venue bucket list. Got the Savoy ballroom checked off this year so maybe next year for the Great Room. I saw your check in at the Grovsner on FB and wondered if you were in the Great Room! Big bands like that are hard work - had a 13 piece for a while - but we agreed there's little point at the moment because the amount of gigs for them are rare... and getting more so... People haven't got the cash to splash and it's the same names that are already established and got a foot in the door that are picking these gigs up. The 5-7 piece is working wonders for us... this year has been a record year and next year is already looking to beat this year.
I saw a band, The Sway Orchestra with Nick Owen on bass, with precisely this setup last night and it sounded seriously good. U5 DI into the PA and a little 2x10 cab on stage as a monitor. Top notch PA and at least 1,000 people. Sway are one of the very best functions bands in the country - rammed the dance floor from start to finish!
I don't despite that the U5 is a good piece of kit... but I would wager that a lot of that tone shaping was coming from the desk still... and of course, the fingers! Where did you see them? Aren't these guys playing at your daughter's wedding?
An attenuator is a great solution, but -20db sounds like quite a big cut to me.
There's loads out there -10db for example. I carry round a -20db because I know without fail that all desks are going to be able to work with the signal, even if it is on the low side.
