1. Seems fair enough.
 2. I don't understand. Jealousy? What? For paying a load of cash for something that is built to the standards that it is? Not for me I'm afraid. Not a fan of a looks, tones, associated niggles... they are light - granted - but cabs at this price point shouldn't have ANY problems, be it handles, feet, foam, whatever. There are a plentiful amount of cabs out there that have zero problems. If this was any other product than Alex's, these cabs would be slated for all the problems that they have/have had - and everybody knows that. We only have to see other threads where people are unhappy with products and buying experience. Why should the response that BF has on here be expected to be any different? BigRedX hates Fender and is very vocal about it. And that's fine. Each to their own... The only people that are screaming out in these threads, are the people that own them. Do thou protest too much?
 3.
Nah, I don't believe you....
The laws of physics have come on a long way in the past 15 years don't you know...
 4.
My choice? The tip with both of them. I'll stick with my GB Shuttle 9.2 900W head and Barefaced S12T 2 x 12" for all situations thanks.
What a completely bizarre statement.
 5.
15 years ago I used a peavey 4x10 + 1x15 stack. Today I can get the same power/depth/grunt/whatever from one 15/12 inch speaker in a small light cab, its called progress
I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not.
 6.
Crumbling foam doesn't work at all - and it makes a bloody mess of the inside of the cabinet. So, Alex, taking an easy pop at manufacturers who don't fit any (and who therefore don't charge for it) is hardly the right attitude.
I'd be interested at taking a look at the "mess" inside of the cab. It may be more aesthetically pleasing than the exterior.
 7. The troublesome handles, the dodgy feet, the spewing of foam, the Radio Shack looks. You know what guys, none of this matters. Did anybody mention how incredibly light they are? (and what with the shedding of foam, they get lighter the older they get! RESULT!)
 8. Err...... How many cabs at the same price point as BF don't have damping?
 9. Blowing up? Have Ampeg been nicking designs from Ashdown?
 10. Overkill even if you are a touring act! Only reason why I could think why you would want one on tour, is if you are recording the performances. Otherwise, go straight from the DI on the amp - any serious gigs will usually have the PA guys insisting on you plugging straight into a DI anyway, with a through to your amp - just so front of house/recording remains uneffected if your amp goes AWOL. Less chance of a DI death than an amp death... and it means that if you choose to mess with the dials on your amp, it won't effect the PA engineers mix or the recording... (you'll just pee everybody off when you touch the preamp on your bass) If you do want a great sounding DI, that is great for recording and live use, at a bargain price, you could do a hell of a lot worse than this - http://www.orchid-el.../classic_DI.htm - I've got a batch of his mini DIs too, they are superb also - and always get interest from the AV teams that I have worked with.
 11. Get one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XLR-BALANCED-ATTENUATOR-IN-LINE-VOLUME-20dB-/190680441716?pt=UK_MusicalInstruments_Other_Pro_Audio_Equipment&hash=item2c6570a374 and a short XLR cable. Plug the short XLR cable into your head, the other end into this attenuator, then get the sound guy to plug into the attenuator. Job done. EBS heads cab be a bit of an enemy to desks which haven't got a wide reaching pre or a pad to engage. To be honest, live, I would be very impressed if people could tell the difference through the FOH system between a DI straight off the head and a dedicated DI. I would only be looking at serious DI boxes like the Avalon if you are recording. This will solve all your problems and put thoughts of an expensive DI out of your head. I carry one around with me all the time incase there's any unhappy desks out there. Same with some Orange heads - they have a very hot DI too. Hope this helps.
 12.
Oh, I love comments like that. They really make my day!
Same here!
I am aware that it's "Stu's book". I am also aware that it's also dots on paper representing the bass line of a song not written by Stu, but by Mark King, Wally Badarou and Phil Gould! If Stu is that worried about being "ripped off", then I suggest he removes the free pages/samples of his "work" on the website to which your link points. As stated in the original post, it's a couple of bars at the end of the chorus of one song. I don't think Mark King would mind and I'm not sure Stu would be that bothered either.
Do you work for the google book project by any chance? Publishing law, rights, royalties... meh.
 13. That's what I am saying. Because what you are hearing has changed, it will influence your mic technique. It's natural that if you are really loud in your IEM mix, you'll hold back off the mic.. and that will obviously influence what happens out front compared to singing without IEMs. So if you aren't screaming your head off, you will probably need to turn the gain on the mic up, or at least the fader. Depends if you got your own front of house engineer/monitor engineer I guess, or if you do the whole thing yourself.
 14.
Anyone used the new Alesis yet? Dirt cheap (not normally a good sign) but it's in the 2.6Ghz range - so wondered if it might be decent. I keep falling over my cables but not enough (yet) to warrant 200-400 quid dropped on a Line 6/Stage Clix etc.
I wouldn't mind checking out that Alesis. Even if hasn't got crazy range, it's great just to get rid of a cable. Cack that it looks to have a harwired cable though... in the wrong place too. Alesis naughty in hiding that fact with a big "new" circle posted over it too. Proper penny pinching in action
 15.
All the buds have come in this week so tonight's gig at my work's xmas party will be the first Second City Soul gig done completely with the IEMs. Quite excited! For me, Paul the guitarist, Dave the drummer and Brian the keyboard player, we've already had a couple of gigs under our belts with the erm IEM's attached to our belts. It's been such a step forward. I'm so excited for Fiddy and Jo as this will be the first show for them with IEMs. It'll probably take a little adjustment but I'm expecting the same jaw-drop smile that me and Paul had a couple of shows ago. Quite excited. Oh, did I say that already? lol
If you are a vocalist, it's the best. Defo. I hate singing without them now - the only thing that can catch you out as a vocalist is that because you hear yourself so loud in your ears, you tend to lay off the mic a bit... so especially on your lead singers, do a thorough soundcheck so they get used to singing on the mic and tailor the mix so they don't back off the mic... if you get what I mean.
 16.
Hubba hubba #IEMperving
Ha ha. Addict.
 17.
Wow! But, if you're making a living out of the industry then it's worth every penny.
Of course, it all depends upon your situation - for example, I could do without an amp completely and put it straight through the PA. I don't need any monitoring on stage as it's in my ears. Given the cost of a decent bass amp, a couple of decent cabs, you could replace those with a wireless setup and a comprehensive inear monitoring solution. As I said to Tonyf, consider it as a Bergantino for your ears!
I do have a pair of ultra-discreet AKG PP416 condensor mics that would do the ambient job nicely - just park them stage right/left angled in...job done! Nice idea - thanks!
Sounds perfect - just experiment with placement to see what you like best... being able to hear the crowd is always a nice thing to hear. One of the things I like about the ACS ambient pack solution is the return of my spacial awareness - like the fact that when I walk towards the guitarist's amp, it gets louder etc... I know that sounds like something you don't want as it means your mix isnt as consistent... but it's about getting the mix between the two just right so you've got your staple mix from the desk and a sprinkling of ambience on the top... so it sounds natural. I'm getting there... I think.
 18.
Looks neat!
Quite impressed with their first release, it's a nicely made piece of kit and the software seems to be very well tuned. Now that I'm getting to grips with blending the ambient mix with my belt pack (I've tailored my radio pack mix slightly so it seems to work better with the output from the ambient pack) next thing to check out is the ALC on the ambient pack. I'm guessing that the software implementation here would have taken a lot of effort to get bang on.
 19.
Thanks Russ, much appreciated. I bottled out of the MRI scan - didn't know I was claustrophobic. Horrible experience. So CT scan next. Looking forward to hearing your views on the ambient pack and it good that you're giving it such a good workout.
Conversely, I must be quite weird as I am quite cool with going in an MRI scanner(!) Hope you the CT is less traumatic for you. Yeah, I'm quite enjoying the ambient pack so far - I've actually got a night off and I'm going to a gig where I would normally be in the audience wearing ear plugs. I think my car will enjoy the break - according to it's trip computer, I've been in the car for 12hrs 40 minutes and done 647 miles in the last two days. Tonight, I am going to be in the audience wearing the world's most expensive earplugs! Swappable filters? Nah! I can do that on the fly!
 20.
I suspect it's out of my price range and that the ambient SM58's will be staying for a while
It's certainly a pretty penny and you'd probably want to be gigging a great deal to warrant it - especially when you add up the complete cost of the radio setup, the T1 lives/T2 lives and then the ambient pack on top of that. Retail on the ambient pack is £450. As for ambient with external mics, you'd probably notice a marked improvement if you considered using some condensors instead of dynamics such as the SM58... just keep them away from the drums!
 21. Just to prove that it exists!
 22.
Had a test myself not long ago. Investigations are progressing - CT scan booked for 19th Dec.
Best of luck with the scan! I remember mine - found out I had a vascular loop in my left ear. I remember saying to the specialist - well that doesn't look right!! Turns out that it's harmless but looks pretty cool on a scan. As for the ambient pack... Well, don't want to say too much until I've tested it in anger but yeah, it's certainly a pretty special piece of kit... I think that it's potentially a big game changer. I've done two gigs on it since I picked it up on Wednesday - pretty much gigging everyday in some capacity for the next two weeks in a variety of different places (corporate peak season what with Crimbo parties and the odd winter wedding) from pokey venues to huge venues so I shall be able to get a good feel for it by the end of it all. Of course, shall post my finding for you all as it may influence where you choose to go next.
 23. Called in via ACS on the way down to a gig... did a gig on my ACS T1s with an ambient pack... but more on that later.
I've an appointment to go back in a couple of weeks to pick them up and whilst I'm there, I'm having a hearing test. TBH, after almost 30 years of playing in bands, I'm not looking forward to the results.
I had a test not too long back - still better hearing than the majority of people my age... and thats with tinnitus (gained when I had a pretty horrific ear infection when I was 21) in my left ear!
 24.
I was hoping someone might be able to send me this one without weighing out for the whole book ;-))
You are aware that that is Stu's book...? So basically, you want to rip Stu off?
