1.
I think that is only on the Z Mode ones. The Classic one I had until very recently didn't have this feature.
Yup. You're quite right.
 2.
AFAIK, all of the Glockenklang preamps (including the Sandberg preamps) now have the passive tone control, with the exception of the stacked pot versions that Glockenklang do.
My, my. Pretty bass in your Avatar. What is that? Is that a Ken Taylor? Got any close ups?
 3. In short, you can't make one solution fit all where std passive/active circuity is involved. Everything you do is a comprimise. It wouldn't surprise me if the current preamp is already set at that perfect comprimise point. I'd never buy an active bass wanting a quality passive mode... the two are mutually exclusive. Short of having two sets of wiring looms and controls in there, one for passive, one for active, I think you are a bit stuck.
 4.
Audere do one as well.
That's just reminded me. One of the maybe "ludicrous" (for lack of a better word) things about the Audere is the battery check thing when you first plug it in. Silent, flashy blue light and then the preamp becomes live. I wonder how many people have stepped on their leads, haven't done the cable loop around the strap trick, bent down, plugged it back in... and then waited what must seem like a life time for the preamp to kick in again?
 5. I don't get how succesful an active/passive preamp can be... the pot values for active vs passive are wildly different - there's a pay off got to be made somewhere. I guess thats where some preamps have the "get out of jail free" by flicking a switch and wiring the pickups straight to the jack... but any tone shaping is always going to take a hit due to pot values... unless somebody can explain something I'm missing?
 6.
I have one too. If you need help/info on wiring just ask.
I think I may be some way off yet as I've still got to build a bass to put it/them in! They were readily available at one stage via the Gallery but now they are like rocking horse sh1t... and Nico doesn't seem interested in making them available outside of Schack basses now (understandable). There are number of preamps that I really love - the GB bass processor (of course!), The Schack... and the other stunning preamp which actually works great with single coils (I'm more of a soap bar man), is the the preamp in the Yamaha BBNE2.
 7.
The Schack preamp is about the best I've ever come across, easily rivalling the JE for spectrum but is also more customisable (internal micro switches allow you fine tune it to your bass or taste) and more importantly for the OP will do complete passive control. Try finding one though.
I've been looking for years for them. I think I may have found one though (or maybe two!) - they are a very musical preamp with a stunning top end, especially with a set of soapbars.
 8.
The problem is with cabs, and user with those. Those amps can put out far more lows than cabs can cope with, giving the farting out and DDT light, and if its like the firebass, has various ways of scooping mids, like the contour control that is scooping them in the middle of its travel, so centring everything doesn't help. Consequently they eat cabs without appearing very loud if you don't look after the EQ.
I'm glad that my experience of running this amp counts for nothing. User error. Yup, that's me.
 9.
Another broken barefaced handle !
10. The amp is probably your no 1 suspect. Those things are notoriously quiet despite their generous power rating. Remember volume measured in dbs not watts. Whole rehearsal sounds like a nightmare situation tbh.
 11. Love pedal steel. Paul Franklin is probably my fave along with the aforementioned. For some edgy stuff try Robert Randolph. Enjoy!
 12.
I always knew there must be someone out there that actually likes the BF paint finish and now we know who
Ha ha - catty comment in a catty thread
 13.
Do you think they ever stopped to consider how much electrical stuff would go to waste simply because people couldn't get in to change the molded-in fuse? (I think I just get exasperated that nowadays I usually have to buy an entire replacement plug rather than just a new fuse!)
Most molded plugs allow you to change the fuse...?
 14. As an aside, I still think there is a right way and wrong way to wire a plug... or perhaps, a right way and a more right way to wire a plug. My grandpa taught me to have a long earth cable inside the plug (even double back on itself in some cases) so if the cable grip failed and the cable was pulled, the earth cable would most likely always stay on it's pin. Plugs that have the wire cut to length exactly, in the right situation, could have the cable pulled enough to release the earth but not the live and neutral. It's something that I've never seen proactively taught, but it something that I've carried on doing since I was taught. It's neither here or there now because the safety bods push for molded prewired plugs.
 15. He should've have finished off... "PS - aren't you glad I don't make pickups?!" for maximum uncalled for, yet comedic, effect.
 16.
(some more than others ha ha).
Was this really necessary to include in his update?
 17. Nice. You make it look very easy. A master at work. I remember my experience with a rasp for instance. I was sweating buckets.
 18.
This is very true.

That comment will go down in history.
19.
Why not just buy a cheap used Ashdown head and use the whole power amp section and transformer?
Fire!!
 20.
Eeeeek, GULP! <RUNS OFF TO PRACTICE MORE>
It's ok, I'll bring Pino down with me also... he was intrigued by the Easyjet comments.
 21. Have to say I was mighty impressed with the ATS. Closest that I've got to "my" sound in a lightweight package. I would love to A/B my current rig against the ATS rig side by side to see how close. That head is cool - my fave micro head yet.
 22. In a nutshell, no flash support on iOS.
