Top end digital systems still use reserved frequencies. The con/prosumer systems, are transmitting on the 2.4 Ghz range (e.g. wifi) - so it's not going anywhere fast in terms of frequencies being sold off. Digital is the way to go - primarily because there is no compounder which is a big plus for us bass players liking our lower frequencies being untouched. The tradeoff? Latency. Not really a problem unless you are using a load of digital systems which will all add their own latency.. then its an issue. But for most, this is never going to be a problem.
I'm getting fed up with folk passing sweeping statements and not stating that it is merely their opinion. An early 80s P bass for instance is for sale at the moment. It is made by an excellent maker and is no doubt a superb bass. However, is it really necessary to add that it is better than USA Fenders of the same era. I have two early 80s P basses and they are both fantastic basses. I'm not saying that they are any better or worse than any other P bass of the early 80s but to claim that the 80s bass for sale is far better is ridiculous. It is misleading to say so in the for sale forum without stating that it is the posters opinion. I don't want to clutter the post which is trying to sell the bass by making my point. This is not another Fender verses the rest post. It just happens that the P bass for sale post is the example I'm using. By all manner of means compliment a bass to help the sale but don't say it's better than something else. The next post down may be trying to sell the very bass that is being denigrated. It's not difficult to add IMO! Rant over.
Chill man. I may play your basses and think that they are the worst thing ever... or maybe the best thing ever. That's the thing about opinions... And have you also noticed that everybody that sells a bass proclaims such a thing? "Best bass I've ever played... etc"
Stage Clix better than all the others
And how do you figure that then?

Good investment - stay digital for best results with bass. Sony DWZ, Shure GLXD (or ULXD if you are feeling particularly flush... Although you will need a license for this one too), Stageclix, Line6. All of have their plus and negatives... Such as AA batteries vs non AA, rack mount vs stomp box type... Battery powered receivers vs mains only etc... But any of the ones I've mentioned will see you ok.

Audio Technica Wireless vs AKG Wireless
EBS_freak replied to tommania's topic in Accessories and Misc
PS. In some situations, VHF > UHF. Depends upon how crowded the frequencies are. If you want to go wireless (highly recommended) and want my advice on what to do, I'd say plump for the new generation digital stuff. Sony DWZB30GB, Shure GLXD, StageClix, Line 6 G30/50/90... More expensive, but sound better than a cable due the lesser capacitance associated with a cable. All these are full range digital systems running on the wi-fi band... so license free. I'm yet to hear of any problems associated running these out in the field. My band uses channel 38 and 2.4Ghz systems and neither have experienced any problems - and this is band doing 2-4 gigs a week in widely varying environments. -
Audio Technica Wireless vs AKG Wireless
EBS_freak replied to tommania's topic in Accessories and Misc
Thanks for that! So I guess the VHF Audio Technica is the worse out of the two, but the AKG UHF frequency is illegal. Perhaps I will just stick with the AKG for now until something happens, be it arrested or a phone call. Or maybe I will just stick with a lead!
Maybe this page will influence your decision... http://www.jfmg.co.uk/pages/Licence/licence.htm -
Audio Technica Wireless vs AKG Wireless
EBS_freak replied to tommania's topic in Accessories and Misc
After looking at this, does this mean the AKG is in fact illegal? http://www.whatpa.co...-allocation.asp
Correct. Basically, your options for general use are - http://www.jfmg.co.uk/pages/equip/Radiomics/exempt.htm Or Channel 38 for higher end stuff before going into leased frequencies. -
Oh Dear, this is why they hate us SO MUCH
Ah right, gotcha. I thought it was a letterbox.
It is. Multipurpose.
I'm usually onstage in an old t-shirt and jeans, and not much of a looker - the Barefaced cabs are positively bling bling next to me(nobody is looking anyway).
You are Shane McGowan and I claim my £5.
All I can say is if you want people to recognise your bass from all the other Fender clones then put a legible logo on it.
Or hideous headstock shape.

Are high end basses for investors or musicians?
EBS_freak replied to Pinball's topic in General Discussion
Buying anything new as an investment is probably a bad idea, then again I know a guy who paid £9k for a Jimmy Page les paul a while ago, Gibson reduced them to £7200 a few months after, then Led Zepplin reformed a few months later and he sold it for £12500 so what do I know?
Haha. Indeed. And this was the same guy that bought a John English Stealth and lost a load of money on it because he routed a humbucker into thd neck! Just shows he used that as a player rather than an investment! -
Phil Collins with George Duke. Average White Band Band.
EBS_freak replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
Anybody questioning his playing is a bit of a fool... He may not be a chops monster but he has a great feel and knows exactly how to place the beat. For example, check this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5ulSPzy2CA Fairly straight forward... but executed with absolute perfection. Relaxed but a perfect feel. -
I am close to chewing my own arm off waiting for mine.
Don't do that... mind you, less arms, should save wear and tear on the handles.

[sup]I can't believe this bass is still for sale![/sup] [sup]I'd have it if it had the right number of strings![/sup] [sup]Here's a free bump![/sup] -
My question. Are you REALLY prepared to answer ANY question?

OBBM is great. Can't sing his praises enough. His "singerproof" XLR cable is still holding up perfect. Music wise, I can only recall paying full whack upfront for my inear monitors - but that's kinda understandabe. They'd be left with a product unique to me if I didn't pay the balance.
