1. ah yes, it's like assholes... everybody has one...
2.
Couple more things I want to do with it, as said the bridge needs respraying and the saddles really need a refurb too, but I'll wait for a restring before I do that job. Gold strap lock pins too, bold screws in for the control cavity along with gold tuners. All for some point in the future, I'm liking the gold / black / red theme though.
Saddles need polishing on a buffing wheel - that will bring them back up a treat. I would have the bridge stripped and powdercoated.
3. So... now that you've seen the light with 5ers, sacking off Ashdown... whats next?
4. Another change of editor? Anyway, welcome.
5. Been a while since I've done any updates. Here's a new Rumour 4... nice bass with laser backplates (I think they look really impressive on this example) and with 12th fret inlay.
6. Headstock pic! Headstock pic!
7.
How's everyone getting on using the Reidmar with their effects? I find my distortions sound harsher with it than they did with my previous amp which had a tube preamp, they sound not so pleasant and organic with the Reidmar and I'm not being able to get around it :/ I've been using a T-Rex Bass Juice since it came out and a Red Ripper for a few months, they went great with the 350x but not enjoying them so much now... Don't tell me I'll have to start a new search for distortions all over again
Maybe put a tube prepedal in front of the amp... a bit annoying I know.
8.
I think a lot of that is perspective. The E-string is diving down pretty sharply and from that camera angle it looks like it's going off at a different angle from the nut.
It's the D and G I actually have the bigger issue with.
My bet is that if you were holding that bass the strings would be absolutely fine.
My bet is that it wouldn't. Even the one on the Status website is pissed up.
Also, you have failed to show sufficient respect to the Holy Memory of the Blessed Saint John of the Ox, and you shall surely endure the torments of Hell for all Eternity. Or something.
No slur at all on John.
9. The string lie from the nut to the machine heads is terrible. What is it with Status' inability to get a straight string path fron nut to post?
10. I never liked the sound of them - again, I think it comes down to the cabs more than the amp. OK, they get the job done but so does an Ashdown. They wouldn't be my first choice... and I never trust an amp that looks like a Tonka truck.
11. Thats cool. Nice effort. Not enough Jake Brown lettering on it though... sack the Ten Floors logo off and put your website url on it.
12.
I'll be near Basildon Essex tonight, 28th June, Wolverhampton 29th June, Sheffield 30th June, Cirencester 1st July...
Steve, when you are on the run, it's best not to give away your location...
13. 40 60 80 100 125s on all my 5 string basses - all 35" scale, DR strings.
14. Interesting to see the difference in the top fret positions in relation to the body. I would have thought they would be similar despite being neck through. The finish doesn't do a lot for me... but that fingerboard sure is tasty. Nice collection.
15. I don't know... looks good, if you wanted to get it A1, you could treat it to a coloured finish - depends if you wanted to keep the wood look. You asked about the look when the oil is being applied - you'd get that with a thin polyester clear top coat.
16.
Somebody earlier mentioned knowing more about a few products they were interested in than the sales guy, but as a former sales guy I should probably add a bit of balance I s'pose, I used to get this a lot, folks that had researched the ass off a few things and knew them to to the nth degree, they would then get all snarky cause they knew those three things better than me, thinking they were a huge expert and I was a mere pleb before them; of course what they forgot was that I had to also know a huge range of info about every. Other. Single. Thing. In. The. Shop!! However that was hi-fi and I would rather chew my own face off than deal with hi-fi customers ever again. -literally. But yes, I lament the death of the high street music store, but every single time I've given a local one a chance it's ended up a poor experience. Back to thomann
OK - I understand that the product range is potentially huge... but what is annoying for me is that in the down time, these are the people that are pissing around, doing jack sh*t when they could be having a play with the gear getting to know the ins and outs of the stuff. In my experience, they know jack about most, if not all of the stuff they are selling. There aren't many other jobs where people can do nothing but become reactive only when a customer walks into a shop. But above all, the thing that pisses me off the most, is when people are blagging in front of you and then telling me bullshit info about what a product can and can't do when I know full well what the score is. A simple, "I don't know" or "Shall we look into it" would be so much better. The best salesman I know, always carries around a guitar with him and has spent time researching the heck out of the products his shop sells... and that is why he can get sales out of people who only came into the shop for a browse. He can make all those products sing and he know how to navigate around them perfectly - so much impressive than somebody fumbling. I can fumble for myself.
17. I love my note. I don't actually see it as that big a phone as most other people do. As soon as they see how you can make use of the bigger screen (surfing the net for example - I use the Daily Mail webpage as an example - it all fits on the screen and you can still read it all), they get it. Fits in my jeans pocket fine and does everything I want it to do... and so much more! PS - I use 3g watchdog for my data watching app although ICS (you may have to upgrade as I don't believe the Note ships with the latest OS) for the Note now comes with an app to do this built in.
18.
+1 It offends my sense of chronological order. The 51-type Precision headstock had been replaced by the 57-type 'Strat' style by 59/60 when the first Jazzes appeared. Yes, I know it's not a Fender, etc but it just looks wrong doesn't it? Eh? Eh?
Yup.
19. Is that a white polyestered neck a la Larry Graham? I kinda like the bass bar the headstock
20. Music shops just annoy me. It's as though the people that they employ don't have any idea what they are selling, any idea about the brands that they are not selling (e.g. the competition) and their lazy attitude towards selling would mean that if they worked for me, they would be out of the door. It's not just music shops. I have been round a lot of car main dealerships of late and they are exactly the same. I knew more about those cars from what I had read online and from the sales brochures than ANY of the salesmen/women. At that point, I hadn't seen any of the cars I was looking at in the flesh but knew more about each of the models than the people that are paid to know and sell this stuff. Not acceptable. I had great pleasure in Mercedes having phone me up for a survey... I don't think they are used to people slating them on their sales techniques.
21.
Probably but to be honest I am not particularly bothered as long as it's loud and rumbly.
And that is why your earlier comment holds no water.
22. I think you are being harsh. It's just a typo. headless bass guitar, with full rewire, needs complete respray. graphite neck,eq controls for bass, treble, volume, new jack socket fitted.
23. [sub]From what I've read, this is ridiculous. Is the band full of people that have a day job and play musicians at weekend, or are they going to treat it as a pro band? If it's the latter, the ONLY way it can work is to have deps. People will never be able to make all the gigs hence that will lead to revenue loss for other members of the band. Understandably, these people will be pretty peeved if they lose money through lack of personel availability... hence the reason we dep. I play with different people all the time and actually enjoy it as it's great meeting new players on the gig. If the players are good enough, they'll be able to drop in no problem. When you say, play as per the record, any pro will do so... and hence they can just drop in. This is of course different if you are going to start introducing your own twists, melodies etc on songs - but generally, you can drop in deps and get the job done well with minimal, if any, rehearsing.[/sub]
