NOT GREAT NEW BASS DAY - EBMM Ray HH Matching Headstock
EBS_freak replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
You are more than welcome to be my guest, come and visit me, and I'll let you try 'em. In a nutshell, the neck and the novax system allows the E and low B to ring out well defined notes which were previosuly not so on other basses I've owned. Also these necks are very comfortable, not quite as thin as Ibanez necks, yet they allow for a very low action without fret buzz. Thanks to the extra scale length all strings have an even tension from the G string to the low B, they are a breeze to play, effortlessly, songs which I previously struggled that were a bit busier on the hand now are much easier on the wrist muscles. The pickups and preamps I also find to be very usable and easy for anyone to get a good sound just going through the pickup selector and tone control. Come and try them. Nuff said
You see, this is what I find interesting about Dingwalls. All the owners report they have this thunderous, piano like bottom end that just rings out. There are plenty of non Novax system basses there that have an equally good (if not better) low end. The thing about even tension across the strings may not be as advantageous as everybody thinks. I know that GW will despute this but play a Dingwall in a band situation (or even soloed if you really want to analyse this) and compare the balls of the bottom to the anaemic top end of treble strings. Boost the bass to bring the treble strings to where they should be and the bass strings are too overpowering. They just aren't balanced - the weak G string syndrome of the Stingray is nothing compared to that of the Dingwall - especially when we're talking 6 stringer DWs. This is why I haven't got a Dingwall but I have to admit, I like the concept and they are beautifully made. If GW has found his weapon of choice, great. Now let's get on and let Gareth get his Stingray replacement be it a Bongo or whatever. PS no matrix/red pill here -
I'm toying with the idea of getting a custom bass done. One of the things I'd like to do would be having my initials (ARK) on the fingerboard. I can't think what colour would be right though, it'd be an ebony or rosewood fingerboard. Body probably black with black/white/black guard. Black hardware as well, naturally Any suggestions? Can't decide if white or silver would look best!
Have a look at the Yamaha BBNE2. Always thought the inlays on that were well cool and you could have your initials at the 12th block instead of the EASTism.
No. It would look like a bad bathroom suite.
You are right. Beside, the headstock decals are mirror chrome and would cack with gold hardware. -

Perhaps the suitability of the bass is answered by this photograph... -
That really would have been a sweet option.
But thats why you drive the Valve Drive... these guys aren't daft... PS Sad to see the spot varnished logo on the top vanish for the plastic speaker cab logo...

The version that I heard at Frankfurt sounded really, really good. The thing that I am concerned about is the specs war... TC were obviously worried about it hence they had to get creative. However, if you look at the competition from MarkBass and Genz, with their 500w and 600w heads respectively, it's going to take some convincing for somebody to go for a 250w over those. And then, the EBS isn't as micro or as light as the competition. I see it more of a halfway house at the moment... Of course, for a single cab solution, the MB and GB heads are still putting out favourable watts at 8 ohm... the EBS, well, I'm not so convinced. As pointed out though, the HD350 is proof that EBS watts go a long way. Some shelving in the lows really gives the amp all the power it needs where it matters. I'll have to spend some time with it to see what I really think... the proof as they say... is not in the specs. As somebody has already pointed out, the neoline cabs are all geared up for a two cab solution at 2 ohms... with the 1x10 and 1x12 cabs being the exception (they run at 8ohms). It seems crazy they should be now pushing 4 ohms instead of 2... as any EBS cab owners looking to move to a new lighter weight solution... are a bit shafted... Still wouldn't mind one though
EBS really should have had this head out a few years ago about the time they were releasing the compact 1x10 and 1x12 cabs. This should be a good amp though.
This head has been in development for years but I think they may have missed the boat and the figures don't look too favourable against the competition. If you do a search for the Classic 160, you'll see the first incarnation that was first released (but never got to retail) at Frankfurt a few years back now...

Repainting a bass - will it really change the sound?
EBS_freak replied to The Dark Lord's topic in Repairs and Technical
Why would we know more than your guitar tech?
Indeed, there's quite a few on here, as ou7shined says, that from their arse, speaketh. -
If the name puts you off, get the same amp with an Eden badge on... E300T or the Fame BVH300. Same amp, different skin. Still sound the same though... and that's fairly flat. Read the Talkbass comments for a further insight. But then again, for the money, you can't really complain.

Gallien Krueger 2001RB into EBS Proline 4X10...HELP!
EBS_freak replied to AlistairScott's topic in Amps and Cabs
Manual here - http://www.gallien.c...1RB-2001RBP.pdf 2001RB setup for Normal Operation: The 2001RB series amplifier is configured for normal operation when you are connecting to any cabinet with a 2 conductor Speakon cable, 1/4” to 1/4” speaker cable or 1/4” to banana plug speaker cable. In this setup, the speaker cabinet is driven by the 540W amp and the 50W tweeter amplifier is not used. If you are using RBH series cabinets, the volume of the tweeter (relative to the woofer’s volume) can be adjusted using the Horn Level control of the cabinet’s internal crossover You are using the first instance - as in the cab will only be driven the 540W amp. So in other words, make sure the amp isn't bridged, plug in your 2 conductor speakon (take the cable apart and you'll only see two cables inside) to the "left" output of the amp, and other speakon at the end of the cable to the EBS cab and you're in business. Forget about the bridging or crossovers, you don't need them in this case. -
Wow thats excellent! That's got me looking at the terror bass in a whole new light. Have you been able to source any orange tolex to cover it and how are you getting access to the DI?
Extension cable to the rear plate maybe? Dunno... guess we'll find out!

Get another drummer and share the drum seat between two or more drummers. It'll keep you gigging, with other people too... best not to get too precious about it all. Afterall, if it becomes hard work, it's no longer fun. Sounds like the drummer needs some spare time - so see if you can get another on board to gig share with... this keeps you playing with at least one good drummer some of the time. It's better than playing with a not as good drummer all of the time.

Some of Alan's fingerboard woods just floor me. That's another lovely pieve of timber there.
