Some pointers - Make sure your pre/power amp are running off the same plug as the board so they have a common earth. Take your pre/power amp out of the rack and make sure they aren't touching. Humfrees can help with getting proper isolation within the rack. Make sure you have a buffered pedal last in your chain - something like a Boss pedal. This is similar to an audio transformer and you may have one lying around. In my experience true bypass causes more problems than it's worth. A good buffered pedal > true bypass. Unplug your board and add one pedal at a time to your signal path... see if there is a problematic pedal and see if moving the position in the chain makes things better. Ensure that all your interconnects are good and properly screened.

Is the sound of the cab replicated when mic'ing?

zzz.... oh sorry, did somebody say something? -
From Alembic wiki - In 1976, Alembic made the world's first graphite neck basses with necks supplied by Geoff Gould, who subsequently founded Modulus. Well.. somebody is wrong! (my previous comment about Geoff Gould presenting the first graphite necked bass in 1977 was this Alembic - maybe it was finished in 76 and made aware to the public in 77?)

According to the Steinberger history on their site - 1977 Several prototypes made of graphite reinforced epoxy are manufactured. Any advances on 1977?
Would it of been that outlandish at the time? Many people still see flea as a Ray player. Would making a bass they had already made under MM years earlier be progressive, I'm not a Status expert but I'm guessing the Cutlass pre dates Status?
Close call - Cutlass birthdate is 1982 (with Modulus manufactured neck) with Status being 81 - the Status folks may be clearer around the dates. Is 1981 the birth of GMT or was Rob going before this? Geoff Gould (founder of modulus) apparently presented first graphite necked bass in 1977... so it looks like MM and Status were lagging by a few years.
I believe I posted that very pic in my Weird & Wonderful thread many moons ago... BTW is there a bass that you have your eye on?
I'm not usually a MusicMan Stingray fan but somebody has one of these... Can't ever see me using it... but I would like it for wall art -
Lava Swirl would be a good third choice. It is a more common finish and from perusing the Reverend threads on TalkBass I know that the BH sig model exists in this finish.
-
Unless someone come out of the woodwork and admits to owning a Spalt Hybrid, Norton, Andreas Shark (with the aluminium fingerboard) or a Reverend Brad Houser Sig in either bug-eye chrome or engine turned aluminium finish - all of them have to be 5-string versions too - then I'm happy with what I've got.
I always have liked that bass. The lava swirl caught my eye - but having seen one in the flesh, they could look really sh!t close up depending upon how the lava effect has been achieved! -
I bet you are - it could really help your back!!
I have the TD650 and HD350 - I must admit, the HD350 is getting more outtings at the moment! Its the bigger gigs that see the 650 being rolled out!

I heard this at Frankfurt - it did sound awesome. Had the typical EBS tone although not having tried it out in the field, I can't say how it copes in gigging situations yet. Defo watching this one...

ring to -ve terminal of battery, sleeve to ground and tip to hot. -
It's not exactly rocket science. I've got 4 2x10 cabs. I take as many as I need to do the gig... but they haven't been hacked from 4x10 cabs so don't look all shoddy like the Trace in the OP.
-
I'm surpised that Sterling himself hasn't been in contact with you to ensure that you are sorted out...!?
-
Take into account whether your bass is through body strung or not and allow the extra length to go through the body... I've been caught out on that one...
-
I just don't get why you wouldn't use two 2x10's. Especially since we (meaning alex clabber) have already established that they sound better vertically stacked than horizontally.
I think that the advantages of vertically stacked drivers was established long before Alex Claber...
-
I don't really care. I generally string my B through the body and the rest on the bridge. Why? Because I always have done and I like it... it probably makes no difference but it's now the norm and I wouldn't change it. Daft isn't it?
Alleva Coppolo = an amazing jazz bass you can get for 2 grand cheaper by the name of Shur, Sadowsky, Nordstrand..... imo
Not sure about that - the Alleva preamp is a pretty nice preamp that is only found in... well... an Alleva. Suhr, Sadowsky, Nordstrand - all good but all significantly different in the preamp stakes.
Clarky I'm hoping to find a good one on 38th street in NYC actually I did consider what you are suggesting, thanks for the pointer. EBS_freak there is already a new Dingwall p bass in the works but it will be sometime before it will be fully tested and ready for production. Also EBS_freak I don't just own Dingwalls there's Fenders and PRS's in my fleet which I also consider irreplaceable lets not generalise ok?
You may want to head a bit further up to 48th Street... I'm not generalising. Just being blunt - it's OK to own a lot of the same brand. I've got examples of the same bass but in different finishes - depending upon the gig.
-
Buy a Dingwall because that's what you're ultimately going to end up with, after all, you don't want to end up with is unusable in comparison.
