4. Slap, like everything has it's time and place. The thing about slap, it's a bit of a trick. It's all about muscle training - and any clown can get something which (arguably) sounds good and will impress your mates in a relatively short period of time. Now, shred some fingerstyle with musicality... that's a trick... and not many people can do that. Understanding scales, modes and the like takes time... far longer than building up slap motor skills. And hence why none of us heard a lot of it at the London Bass Show.
 5. Just got back after 2 days on the stand. As for slap, yeah, we were all pissed off with it by day one. Day 2 seemed less of a slap fest and so was a bit more tolerable. It seemed whenever anybody asked to play a GB, it got slapped. It got very tiresome! I've heard it all before and nobody (apart from a select couple) did anything to impress me. There were a couple of youngsters who really had the fingerstyle down - they were a delight to have on the stand. With fingerstyle, there is no tricks; being able to play bass properly is the trick (and not many people seemed capable of it). The most amusing punter for me was the guy who wanted to try out a bass with a ramp. Once given said bass, not one bit of fingerstyle - all slap. Wtf?? But as Pete says, if a punter wants to play slap, you can't really tell them to do one can you? Am quite surprised people were saying Bernie was on a slap fest - this show, Bernie did very little playing... And he was pretty much concentrating on his Jaco stuff, chordal stuff and chorus/reverb tricks when he has. I heard very little slap from Bernie and seen as I was on the stand solid for two days, I would say I'm pretty much in a strong position to say who was playing what, It was quite amusing though - some of the GB regulars who got up to have a quick razz got told to stfu the second they went for a slap, tickle or pop! Sibob - don't know what you were seeing or hearing at the stand when you were there. Bernie was taking the punter through the EBS pedals - if I recall, you were talking to Steve Lawson. I think you are giving Bernie an unfair press here. Anyway, the fact that the GBs were cutting through everything kinda speaks for itself... It didn't get lost in the durge... Btw, is anybody else in agreement that Nigel Clutterbuck is unique in the fact that his surname sounds like his playing?
 6.
I must say being opposite GB was a pleasure and they were in full force today, can't wait to have mine there tomorrow
Good to meet up with you Jim!

 12.
I too have to disagree, I have played in few and all the guys and deps have been great overall IME, many more egos been rubbed up the wrong way when I was in the originals scene.
Defo - the originals scene is full of far more pumped up, fake, egotistical, think they are better than they really are so and sos. No question.
And where are they without you now Russ? (alphabet song was good though I'll give them that one)
I wouldn't know. Ha yeah, alphabet song was a stroke of genius.
 13. They are at the London Bass show - with Mayones on their stand I believe. (Looks like the Polish are there in force!) Still don't know who the distributor is/would be though?
 14. Ah well, join me. I was sacked when my originals band landed a support slot for the biggest Britpop band come back gigs. The group of friends decided they'd push me (the outsider) out and get their original bass player mate in. Can happen to anybody. It's not always about being able to do the job and being loyal to the band. Friendships run deeper than that it would seem!
 15.
I now no longer give out our website address!
You should do... the blog is well entertaining. But yeah, sounds like you should jump ship. You don't need that in your life. Find something that excites you.
 16.
Its possible to use a UV guard in any clear coat but it then blocks the reflectivity.
...and also discolours the overall finish as no UV resistant clear coat is 100% clear.
 17. Aha! At least we have something to talk about over tomorrows curry

 20. Just read this thread through. Jeez, the guff quotient is high in this thread...
 21. Tell me about it. A great source of annoyance. I've experienced a similar thing with replacing a pot on an Ernie Ball volume pedal.
 22. Sorry to hear your problems with the Rumour... but take heart that once it's all fixed up, you still have a bargain - that Rumour would come it at over 3k new. As you say, just a bit of a bummer that it requires so tweaking. You've had a Rumour before right - so you know how they can play. As a matter of course, I'd get it back to Bernie for a once over. These basses are set up to the player so it may need some adjustment to get it to play right for you. Not a lot of people can play my basses because they are too low and rattle too much. For me, with a light touch, they play perfectly. Combined with the fact you don't know what people have done with their basses once they have left Brighton, it may be overdue a magic touch. From what you describe, its sounds like the strings are too low in the nut for you. I'm sure Bernie will build the nut back up for you and certainly a pot replacement is not an issue. In fact, given the age of that that Rumour, I think Bernie has changed to since changed to better pots (smoother running, electronically and mechanically more reliable) so it may be worth getting it serviced just for that.
