  1. Are you sure about that? It's not as straightforward as that https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/changes-to-vat-treatment-of-overseas-goods-sold-to-customers-from-1-january-2021/changes-to-vat-treatment-of-overseas-goods-sold-to-customers-from-1-january-2021
  2. Just remember... ”Tax needn’t be taxing”
  3. As long as he’s ok, Jack. This is the problem, the whole situation is only observed from a personal point of view and people are too selfish to see past their own noses.
  4. As stated before... as long as who you are buying from can absorb the overheads of dealing with the UK.
  5. Try driving goods through the borders as you import and export from the UK and tell me how easy it is (was).
  6. If they survive the pandemic and if people have the stomach to absorb the price hikes.
  7. That’s fine - as quoted earlier in the thread - if vendors are prepared to sell to the UK. That boutique bass guitar brand may not be available through the likes of The Gallery or Bass Direct any longer. These additional shops you talk of are going to be larger than the small independents... and will ultimately put the latter out of business. Rich will get richer. The poor will be just be thankful for a job. It certainly doesn’t put the EU on a level playing field. The previous deals with the UK with non EU countries were on the basis of the UK being in the EU. When the UK does stupid tricks like making vendors collect VAT on the UKs behalf, well that makes the UK a pain in the backside to deal with. Check back through the thread for the explanations.
  8. Exactly the point I was making when I made my comment. Its the British Empire mentality that needs to be cut down a peg or two. And ironically, as a nation, it looks like it’s done it to itself.
  9. And although it goes against the romantic story of the code breakers, the bombe was originally a Polish invention.
  10. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000kzx7/the-schoolgirl-who-helped-to-win-a-war#:~:text=The untold story of 13,to the Battle of Britain.
  11. Biased much? 😛 Quire an interesting documentary. The Browning was the worst gun available - but the only that could be installed in to 4 locations on each side of the plane... and was right on the limit of “acceptable” firepower - as proven by the maths.
  12. yeah, it would have been 1948 before the paperwork was complete.
  13. I thought it was all those bouncing bombs.
  14. Indeed. I was reading the reports this morning where English companies aren’t prepared to foot the shipping concerns into Ireland. Im sure a lot of people were hearing about the border to Ireland on the news and not paying much attention... but we are 3rd in their list of export destinations. And we rely on them heavily for food stock.
  15. The one about the school girl doing the maths behind the 8 Browning guns that downed all those Germans?
  16. Yeah, I get what you are all saying but... 2 World Wars and one World Cup! Rule Britannia!
  17. Or maybe the future that the majority couldn’t figure out would be inevitable...?
  18. He’d adapt and not worry too much.
  19. There you go. All more expensive - and all the costs will be passed onto the consumer. A lot of Bass Directs stock is from small boutique manufacturers too... that don’t want the overheads of dealing with the UK. As much as I feel wrong saying this, if BD sell a lot to Europe, it would be in the manufacturers interest to find a comparable operation within the EU to bypass the red tape to reach their EU based customers.
  20. No worries. One if my biggest disappointments is that the folk of the UK were given a vote on a subject in which they are not qualified or informed enough to do with any credibility. If you had cancer, would you take advice from a doctor who is an expert in the field, or Bob, who’s “done his research”? Just out of interest, what is your line of work? You may be surprised how these changes could impact you, you just don’t know yet.
  21. Sorry. I’m just guessing what the official response will be.
  22. Don’t be silly - they are just victims of the pandemic.
  23. Yup. I think your last words sum it up. So imagine that the UK miraculously turns itself into a manufacturing powerhouse... where are the raw components coming from?
  24. I’m not sure what we’ve gained right now? Its like we’ve just looked down the end of a shotgun and pulled the trigger...?
