Be very careful. Buggering up the truss rod adjustment could seriously damage your bass permanently. I'd ask around and see who local shops recommend, then send the bill to your singer.
Only have one local shop which mainly deals with accordians. guitars seem to be a side line. And i don't think i would trust him with my bass
Hi Ash, well it could help to loosen the rod slightly which should cure the problem (couple of 1/4 turns with 15-30minutes inbetween to let settle). But, if the action was ok before the fall it might be worth letting a techie take a look as soon as you can just to check that the neck is still seated ok.
OK cheers, would like my man to have a look at it when he gets back off holiday anyway. Now where did i put those allen keys.

Last nights gig could of been a complete disaster but turned out ok. To start off our new digital PA which noone completely understands how to operate yet was a total nightmare, sound was terrible. After about 10 songs i broke a string 1st in about 10yrs. At this point it was decided to go and get our old PA, which was fortunatly just down the road. Singer in one of his diva moments storms off stage saying he was jacking it in while doing so knocks my bass off it's stand with a thump. :angry:While i was changing my string rest went off to get old PA returned set it up, still no singer eventually he returned. We started playing rest of 1st set. However my bass must suffered in fall because the A,D,and G strings were dead between 1st and 4th frets i mean nothing no buzzing or anything. Managed to get through rest of gig by severely over tightening Gstring. found out today guy who usually does repairs on my bass is on holiday till friday and i need it for gig next sunday. So after a bit of research it looks like the neck is to straight and need to loosen truss rod. I'm going to have to jump in at the deep end and try sort it myself. Can someone with the know how confirm that my diagnosis is correct, and any advice on the procedure would be greatly appreciated. I've looked at gary willis's sight and it seems quite informative. Cheers Ash
If I were left handed I'd have chosen to play RH instead, just because there are so many more instruments available to you. Plenty of people have done it so why not?
Unfortunately not as simple as that. First bass i had was right handed. and tried playing right handed for a couple of months was getting nowhere. Eventually flipped it round and hey presto progress. Played that bass for a couple of years with strings wrong way round untill i could afford my first left handed bass.
Hi, I've got a left-handed 2007 Sandberg California JJ that was a custom order - cream body, matching headstock and dot inlays. Great bass - cannot fault it at all (pretty much mint condition apart from one ding - by bridge) - looks and sounds stunning etc etc. But it's currently my least used bass and I feel it's such a shame. I'd much prefer someone else to be giving the bass a proper 'seeing to' on a regular basis. I'm initially looking at swapping or px-ing it for another lefty of equal quality, such as a Fender US Jazz, Sadowsky (dream on), Rickenbacker, Warwick or MM Bongo etc etc, 4's 5's, fretless etc. Message me if you're interested. Don't know if you'll be interested but i have got a 1983 westone thunder 3 in excellent cond. obviously be a few quid going your way, well quite a few. Nice bass by the way PS. MarkBass 6x10 still for sale...http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26745

+1 Im left handed too and i play right handed, when i started on guitar many moons ago, my dad wouldnt let me swap the strings around on my acoustic guitar so was forced to play right handed, took longer to get my head around but well worth it, once tried a friends left handed bass and i couldnt do a thing with it (or right handed for that matter ) keep the flag flying southaws- lee Im a lefty playing right handed also! Im suprised theres so many of us on here. I decided to play right handed when i started becasue i could get my squire prescision for cheaper! was a great day.
Ibelive all left handers who play right handed are traitors , and should be forced to return to playing left handed . They are the main reason you can hardly find a decent lefty bass. Took me over two years to find my new bass which is a zoot chaser which i love, thats my 2nd bass in 25 years p.s Joe Strummer was left handed
Hi I have 3 Zoot's and they are great basses. The heavy reputation comes from one bass which was a custom build for a player who specified a very heavy bass in the quest for great tone and sustain. While this was more or less achieved the bass was too heavy to gig regularly. It has therefore changed hands regularly. The "standard" Chaser is made from swamp ash which is a light wood and the bass weighs in at a little under normal weight. Mike Walsh will be at the London Guitar show sharing a stand with Basson. He will be showing a new range of super lightweight cabs. 2 of my basses will be there as will I on the Friday. Nick Thanks for all the advice i have just purchased a zoot chaser. All the info i could gather has been positive about zoot basses. Just waiting for it to arrive and see if it is correct. Cheers again.
Whenever I'm practicing alone I always tune by ear, just as its good practice. I use 5th and 7th fret harmonics, by far the easiest method I've found.
Read somwhere that this is the worst way to tune up because of something called the pythagorean comma. Which if i can remember is to do with the guitar never being in perfectly tune, and by using 5th and 7th harmonics is the worst way to tune up. if you google it you will get a better idea than i can give you.
late 70's/early 80's fenders don't really have that much vintage value added but since it's in good condition, pretty much the same price as you'd get a new lefty p and i doubt you'll find one new in that colour scheme any way then you may as well go for it. Oh and not to mention new ones don't come with the chrome covers which do look quite nice.
Just need to convince her indoors that its an investment which will only increase in value.
I reckon if you got it for £800, it would be a pretty good buy. I wouldn't pay quite that much for a right handed one, but lefties will probably always carry a premium. It looks a very clean example and is a really nice colour scheme
cheers, thats what i thought. Just seen a R/H 77 in similiar condition go for £730.

Can anyone help. I think i may have blown a valve, i now have to turn the gain to almost max before clipping occurs. I cannot visually see valves when switched on. Can i remove valves and visually see any damage which may have happened. Any dangers in doing this. Cheers.
