Hey guys just got back from seeing jools holland at the Southport Summer Classics... and my vote for the coolest bass player has to go to mr dave swift - he was awesome... just layed it down all night, which is no mean feat playing with the likes of 'monster left hand' jools and gilson... he was using a EBS 4x10 cab, not sure what amp but it wan't the ebs on his website - he used a rob allen 5 all night and it sounded fantatsic - more info here... he just stood there in his wrap around shades (it was dark by the time they had finished) and barely moved all night, only from the elbow down and the head going... that guy is too cool just looked so relaxed it was so easy for him, not a dot of music all night and never missed a beat... superb any other guys out there that should be on this list?
Maybe not the best, but definetley the coolest Paul simmonon. The reason i started playing the bass
 2.
Left handed? Could you not stretch that £700 for one of the numerous luthiers we rave about round here? Mr Shuker is a popular choice, so is ACG and RIM.
is there much difference between the likes of warwick and your reccomendations ? is it worth the extra cost ?
 3.
Most of a case of carefully de-soldering and then re-soldering, but yes its simple. When you say circuit, do you mean the active bass circuit, or just the wiring on a passive bass? There are quite a few options out there - what sound are you looking for? Hamster
Sorry, yes the active circuit, will it make any difference keeping the old circuit board in, or will a new board improve the overall sound of the new pups. I'm looking for a growly rumble mainly for rock. Thats the best i can describe the sound hope it's not to technical for you
 4.
Would this be a Thunder III that you're thinking of "ripping" perchance?
Yes it is, from where did you aquire your special psycic powers.
 5.
I would say the RSPCA would be all over you if you took a soldering iron anywhere near new pups....
you mean the royal soldering pickup correctly association

 8. just wondering if it isi just a case of ripping out old and soldering in the new . Or do you have to replace the circuits as well. Any reccomendations of some good quality reasonably priced pups for a p/j bass set up. cheers
 9.
Hi, It just so happens I have one for sale! They vary a bit. Mine is a headed 4 string from early to mid 90's. It has an ash body with a rock maple graphite reinforced neck (with a truss rod as well). It has 2 x 'J' pickups, a 9v active circuit with tone, pu blend and volume. Most headed Status basses have a 34.75 inch scale, Energy's had a 34 inch scale. The RRP was about £699 when new. They always seem very good value to me. I also recommend you try Statii.com. Geejay thanks for the advice. I'm a left hander, i take it yours is a right hander.
 10.
Older Status bolt-on range. Most of the same features as their current range, although, if I remember right, the graphite necks didn't have truss rods back then and the bodies were more sharply bevelled. Hyperactive PJ pickups on the 4-string, and a pair of J pickups on the 5, with Status' own 2-band EQ. I think they carried the Energy name over when they started doing the wooden-neck range in addition to the graphite necks, so some Energy instruments may have the reinforced maple neck. Nice instruments and there are some serious bargains to be had. I've been on the lookout for an old Energy 5 for a while. You could probably find out a lot more from the crowd over at www.statii.com .
thanks for the advice. seen one on ebay i'm thinking about.
 11. can anyone give any details about these please
 12.
MB1. There are quite a few basses available in that price range but because youre left handed theyre not always going to be available or in stock(i gather youve figured this already).Even the second hand market is never going to be a wash with variety.A lot of manufacturers do offer left handed instruments at a higher price, due to the fact its not classed as a stock item.keep checking the basses for sale column and ebay.Whenever possible try before you buy!You cant go wrong with a fender, musicman, warwick.Warwickwise I personally prefer the thumb bass and they do come up from time to time on ebay.welcome to basschat, hope you find what your after!. All the best MB1.
Have been keeping an eye out on ebay. just missed out on a sandberg california j bass which looked nice, with a bin for £395 missed it by 15 mins, not happy. Thanks for the advice
 13. Hello, i've just recently joined this forum and i must say i'm very impressed by the knowledge and helpfulness of the members. I have been playing bass for 25yrs [christ i feel old saying that] and i am now upgrading my equipment searching for that elusive tone. I recently bought a mesa boogie cab and ampeg pre amp. However when playing through this set up with my old westone thunder 3 i dont get the tone i'm looking for. When i purchased the mesa the person i bought it off played a warwick[not sure what model] through it and it sounded awesome. Being left handed not a great deal of choice with new fenders but warwick seem to do most models left handed. i especially like the look of the double buck. an d wondered if any one had played one of these and what their opinion was. Or any other similiar priced [£700] left handed basses on the market that they would reccomend.
 14.
Apologies in advance to those of you who’ve previously seen my 1984 Westone Thunder III on Basstalk or on the Westone site, but it seemed worth posting it again now we're on Basschat. I’ve used all new pix this time in an effort to keep it interesting! Not posted previously is my “bargain basement” Stagg BC300 fretless. I bought this new for its price (£99) and its looks at the beginning of 2006 and since then have shielded the control cavity using conductive silver paint and replaced the stock pickups with a DiMarzio P + J set for more output and better tone. I've taken a bit of time to set the guitar up properly (re-shimed the neck) and treated it to a set of Rotosound Jazz Bass strings and the end result has been well worth it. Hope you enjoy looking at them both.....
I have a left handed thunder 3 which i bought in 83. Thought mine was in good nick but yours looks mint.
