A guitarist is auditioned and can't take a "no thanks"
funkgod replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
Some people dont like to be told they dont fit. We had the same prob with a drummer for a soul band, he was just a feeless bedroom rock drummer with no dynamics at all, he just jammed over everyone elses hard work could not even do the right beat for higher and higher and i just wanted to get on the kit and show him but did not want too show him up, when like you a nice email was sent because he did not answer his phone on the few times our singer tried. woooowwww did he kick off, we wasted HIS time even tho it was one practice and he was going to tell everyone what a tool our singer was and we were not all that anyway !, this was not just one email but a week of them, the emails were just horrid, so we just ignored them in the end. I dont like to use the word audition when someone comes, i think it make people feel on the spot, i would hate it also, but thinking about it, its what it is and maybe should let people clearly know this. ow well, on and up.. -
If you wanna meet me you just have to ask!
dont worry sausage, your second on my list
Here's my experience of meeting FRP... It was in the small hall in the O2 Arena a few years ago. i waited patiently in line to speak to him and get the obligatory selfie. When it was my turn I stepped forward, shook his hand, thanked him and explained how he was an inspirational influence to me. I cued up the phone camera ready to take the image and it rang at the same time from a family member who had gone out a different exit and got lost.. in answering it the moment was lost and and I never got my selfie. Postscript: a few years later someone posted on Basschat about him and I got a signed set of strings ( he wrote KYDA- keep your dream alive) too and a signed photo sent all the way from the USA.
Great story, al keep the dream alive. ..iv got a framed pic of him in my studio for inspiration. so inspired in fact i wrote a track called "Everyone on the funk bus" which we do live as a dedication to him, as it was inspired from his solo album called "everyone on the bus" Worth checking out yall ( not mine, His)
No! Another!! So I have two!!!
Ahhhhh, well, you cant beat havin two redheads at the same time !
-
I have run into this before, but this one has beaten me. I have tried standing up and dancing with him. I have tried grabbing his foot and making it work on the pulse. I have given him basic drum tracks. Nothing is working, He is completely Disco-lexic (Copyright Happy Jack). Any ideas?
Your doing it all wrong, i feel bad that you have put him through this humiliating torture. Please try this. Put a large pan on his head and hit it with a big wooden spoon in time with some music. Its alot of work for £30 an hour, but at least it gets you to practice drumming at the same time
If I could get my hands on another Super Redhead I would!
Another ? why did you let it go ? once you av gone Red, everything else sounds dead, i just made that up ya know, yea , i was just sitting here and it came to me like a fla....al get me coat..

Great gear, old but gold. i have at mo..... 2 swr super redhead 2x10 combos 1 swr 2x10 ext cab (900w) 1 swr 1x15 son of bertha cab 1 swr 500w sm500 amp 1 swr 6x10 golly Been using the same super red head for 20 years, love it had 3 red heads, 1 in the studio, one in the practice room, and one for gigging. but just sold one of them. If you like recording the redhead has one of the best bass studio preamps out there, worth having just for that. All in all i cant fault it, clean clear crisp sharp and powerfull. have no intensions of changing any of it in the future.
Hi I have recently fitted a realist after using a shadow pu for years. (Still fitted to try blending) in fact the realist was professionally fitted Great sound but the e string is weak and lacks volume. I got away with it at a gig yesterday but feel it wouldn't work out in higher volume gigs Is this normal for realist? Can I improve this by moving the realist slightly under the same e foot? I would like to find a solution that doesn't involve blending two pickups. Some if the best bass sounds I have heard have been with players using a realist so I don't see why I am getting this issue Thanks Adrian
Hi Just incase.... Where did you get it ? cant name names here but when i ordered mine from a "Reputable" uk bass maker/shop it was rubbish, nothing like the one i had been trying from a friend. it was a home made copy, and charged me full price. THE Robber ! ! when i got intouch with david gage they sent me out a new one right away even tho this was not their problem. i still owe them. David Gage... thanks, what a great Company. so..... can you post a pic of it ? the copys you can tell the copper foil is not cut right, , the heat shrink and cable look cheap mine did not even have the print on it ! and the jack socket was very cheap looking. and the output was half as weak with nothing but low boom from the E string.

Nice bass, Rich, the trans red looks cool, book matched 2 piece body as well.... niccceee Here is mine hanging out with chums. i think they talk about me when im not there... so... he used you yesterday did he ? the barstool kept that quiet. its one of them cheap HK 6 string that ebay were flogging off about 5/7 years ago that are just impossible to get now. how can anything so cheap be so well made and sound so good, my bargain of the decade. i love it.
Funk god The Technique suits the song S'all good
thanks for that cuz, always great to hear from other good bass players. just reading through some of the comments, there does seem to be an equal amount of love and hate toward the slap thing, while agreed its not really soup of the day, but i bet as soon as it is again, it will entrap a whole new fraternity of disciples willing to take it a step further, rinse wash repeat, step forward one step. for me it would be interesting to hear where the next wave of disciples takes it. we will see

Thanks - I'd not heard of these guys before, so I've defo learned something! Sounds great on a number of levels. Not just 42. So you got any clips of some of your best material uploaded you could share with your thumb in action?
Hi Al sorry no live clips , i have some old very rough sounding mp3s of stuff i have done in my man den that we do live tho, was trying to do a peppers thing with this, the guys have nailed this one even with that bass drum ( not easy), as you can hear its also unfinished but the idea is there enough to give the band to play with, will redo it one day. , had to do the guitar the same way slapped as well No prizes for guessing the classic film on the end. slap haters please just bypass this..... im not sure who is calling the shots anymore regarding song structure, alot of todays music i think is conveyor belt music, stars for a day and simon cowell pushed sh!te, so the bass player in that invironment gets no say, yes there are still good old bands, but as you say not alot going on there either, maybe influenced by the soup of the day? bands led by bass players you might get your treats/horror now and again. i write most of the songs for my funk band, and i try to cover alot of ground, old school funk, jazz funk, northern soul, groove, gospel, and when i want to pin people to the back wall with some power funk, then yea out comes the thumb, just another tool to do the job....i just wished some of that was simon cowell pushed sh!te star for a day... at least it would of been a day.

Guitar Players Who Don't Get Their Due Respect
funkgod replied to Yank's topic in General Discussion
I have a few in mind that could go on this list. but the one that i think tops all of them and should be known more is...... Jimmy Herring. -
i have a full time traditional job, but would gig every night if i could. having other things doesn't always mean we become indifferent to gigging. i crave the stage, but i haven't played live for 3 years because i haven't found a band i considered to be anywhere near a gigging band (and in all cases i turned out to be correct).
THATS the spirit..... being in a cab band ? im with "delberthot" iv always done it, always will, I will put on a red nose, wear size 25 different coloured shoes, call myself coco and put a hoop in my pants if thay are going to pay me. and i will enjoy it ! im there to entertain............ i do draw the line at facepaint tho.. it also pays for my funk band which is my "do it for the love" band. all in all i can say cabaret has been pritty good to me, so..... yea, as often as i can.

Guys,, if you have to leave gear in a van, you can do this. if a diesel, you can do a few things, 1 find the fuse box, and take the glowplug relay out tho some still start if still warm. if a petrol and diesel best bet is take out the fuel pump fuse as well van might start but will only get 10 yards if at all. best bet is do it and try and drive it your self ( on an empty road) you could if wanted replace with a blown fuse in case they check, at least it will look like one is in. on alot of diesel vans like the vw there is a 12v fuel cut off soliniod usualy on the pump, that will be a single wire going to it with a spade end. it takes 10 mins to put inline and hide a cut switch. engine will not start at all, it will just keep turning over till the battery is dead, like no fuel in the van. Tracking now is so cheap,15 quid delivered is not alot, check them out on ebay. you can even use a dog coller tracker left in the van, and with an app on your phone see exactly where your van is all the time. the blue tooth ones are only very limited coverage tho, check,
