1. Why did the mexican throw his wife off the cliff ?? All together....Tequila, sorry Inspierd by Skols post, i made some sound boards, some cheap batton wood from B&Q some wiggley nails, and a large roll of foam backed black cloth from aberkhan £2.50 !, all the boards done for under £20 with loads left over. large one on the ceiling which im putting a tacky rope light round. makes a huge difference. Cheers Paul
 2.
The reason these instruments are so valued is that they sound the bollox. Play 'em but do it respectfully. Don't take your granny crowd-surfing but if she still sings like Ella let her sing!
My 62 jazz was the worst sounding bass iv ever had, talk about "Dead" most of the neck was one large dead spot. so... no point keeping something you cant use, so ended up swaping it for a JD mark king when Fusion music was on argile st in birkenhead. so yea i can say mine did sound Bollox,
 3.
Good tunes and performances, strangled at birth by lifeless, plastic production.
I can see where your coming from, but have to say i love raw talent demo sounding music, when i collected LPs ( remember them?) i liked live albums just for that rawness, one of my faves was "10 years after recorded live" this was raw energy greatness as its best, stunning even. But at the other end, i love the art in perfect sounding studio albums, another art in its self, we all in our quest want to create, and some of us want to create that raw and some of us want to create hifi" i love the production of it, i think becker and fagan created well deserved benchmarks in this hifi area. Iv got all dans stuff on LP and cd even all members solo lps, and can see the rub off on them members, larry carltons room 335 had that same sort of studio clarity but also had a rawness to it, which i think is attributable to his playing. Another fantastic sounding LP/CD that has killer production but has managed to keep that spark is gary willis "Bent" check that out, so good i sampled that dennis chambers snare, Nightfly..... yea, i also got alot from that, clarity of notes was something i mainly got from it. fave dan LP was ,,,gaucho, , (glamour profession i wish i had wrote that) funny enough ..... Gaucho sounds amazin on Lp, but i dont get the same vibe on cd., "plastic and lifeless" compared to the LP...i sort of get that.
 4.
Great Vid Chris , how long did that take to put together ?
Hi Kev, the studio iv had for ages, only recently got the second D8B. the vid ? The vid took all of 15 mins, set the cam up press play then just used windows movie maker on my laptop windows 7, fast to use if you know what you want to do in the first place. if you want anything doing let me know im getting ok with that. could film the next bass bash? or the dam sync ? The sync, thats another story, there is already a program called " flying faders" for the mackie the problem was syncing the two d8bs together, as there is not alot of info out there, quite a bit of trial and error. got the hard bit coming up... syncing the tape as well, now that is story ! your eyes would bleed before i finished I did the vid mainly as a short view to show the studio for the new band site coming up, and also incase anyone wanted any advice on syncing up the two d8bs. did you see the " Lower East side" bit ? lower east side... of wirral, sounds so much cooler than smelly Ellesmere port
 5. Yea,, i know its a bit of a mine field to do i only know two ways to sync tape from a daw .. "Clasp" which is so expensive And a tascam Midiizer Mts1000, which are hard to get But have found this, not sure if this will do it, some of the old heads on here might have some good advice. "old heads"... what am i saying... i am an old head. but even older than me. 10. "Then "well the booking wasn't made through me... I don't really know much about it..."" How can you not know much about it, 1, you watched us carry gear in..... 2, you could of come over at any time and asked 3, you watched us set up....................... 4, you could of come over at any time and asked 5, you watched us sound check............. 6, you could of come over at any time and asked 7, you watched us play a first set.......... 8, you watched us come off .................... 9, you could of come over at any time and asked 10, you watched us play a second set,........ 11, you watched us come off....................... 12, you could of come over at any time and asked 13, you watched us pack away..................... 14, you could of come over at any time and asked Whats there not to know ?............................ do you normally just let people walk into your pub and do that ? a band has just played, in all that time you did not think once to check ?, at least the book ? Cash or Trash ? joking aside at least you stuck to it and got paid, a happy ending to the story. Just a quick thought, if taking a booking when its writen in their book make sure you tell them to also write the agreed fee in too, job done.

 15. iv just sold my 350 smx that iv had for years, power out of it was amazing for rated 350, i kept it for years " just in case" but compared to the swr super red heads tone, and my swr sm500, it sounds slow floppy and thuddy,,, loads of thud and heavy weight to the sound, it was perfect for soul type stuff. I think back in the day the chioce of bass amps was same old same old, good but not moving on quick enough and the new TE stuff was that breakthrough into a new breed the smx 350 for me was that, loved the way i could dial in as much valve pre i wanted, just a knob on the front that was valve one way or tranny the other or a mix, it also had hi and low comp again usefull, looked great, nice lit up, but then stayed like that for years too long, i think the style just dated ? But ... the swr sound had that more modern sound to it not as much weight to the sound but brighter and sharper, i dont need the huge sound anymore as i Di into the desk, so the swr was perfect for me. Still have a place in my heart for the 350 tho.
 16. £770,000 ? he must have been on the fiddle, and she must have been highly strung,
 17. BoB, take the leap "go public" and join a band, what you hear in the bed room is not what you are going to hear with 4 or 5 other guys. all you have learnt and your tone and feel will all come together after a time playing with others. if you joining a band is too much of a leap then put an ad on something like JMB to get others local to play with it will pay you back 10 fold But enjoy whatever you do keep us posted how you get on, im sure you will be buzzing for days
 18. my funky band.. some good pics were taken last week, the guy who took them had a fiddle about with them. sorry about the gogs, uglyness is abundant without them

https://www.youtube....h?v=Q429AOpL_ds
Ahhh shaft, again good shout, a whole book can be written on shaft, it has a hell of a family tree. A great read. https://en.wikipedia...heme_from_Shaft the bass player was James Alexander who was bass player in the bar kays, Interesting also to see willie hall played drums on that track ( also from the bar kays) and of course the blues brothers. James Alexander https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Alexander_(musician)

(in your opinion of course**)
Great, i am sure i can think of a few which really was pants, start the new topic
Some of my favourite TV themes: Grandstand Taxi ('Angela' by Bob James) Hill Street Blues St Elsewhere (Lee Ritenour & Dave Grusin) Shoestring and of course without question the greatest TV theme tune of all time...
