  1. Saw The Cure in Belfast last night and it was a great show. I found it uncanny how RS's voice hasn't seemed to have aged much and he sounded fantastic. Of course, of most interest was Simon Gallup's bass sound. It was huge...and for many songs, really grindy and dirty sounding. Like, really gnarly! The sound quality was good and for some songs like Disintegration, by design. merged into a really powerful wall of sound. The set was pretty uncompromising for the casual fan (i.e. the thousands who seemed to be there just for Friday, I'm...), with several classics from their back catalogue and a few new ones as well, some of which were more memorable than others. Too many highlights to list but At Night, Burn, A Strange Day, Push and of course, A Forest were superb. If you get a chance, check them out.
  2. Reverend make great basses. Hope you get lots of enjoyment out of it.
  3. Chromes 45-100 regular light flat wound strings, taken off a Fender American Standard jazz. They were on that guitar for about 18 months and have a nice thumpy sound. Looking £20 for these. Free postage in the UK. Thanks for looking.
  4. I had a similar experience recently with returning a Harley Benton wireless guitar system. I followed the returns instructions, made the 12 mile round trip to my nearest drop off point, only to be told by the news agent, they haven't been returning DHL parcels for a couple of years. After a lot of faffing and emails to Thomann, I did find another drop off point, this time a 30 mile round trip and it was a fingers crossed type scenario as the shop keeper told me that sometimes the item scans successfully and gets into the DHL system but most often it doesn't! Incredible that a company operates like this. Anyway, after about 6 weeks I got my money back. I was tempted to keep the item after the first failed attempt but the amount of hiss and loss of tone meant it useless and had to go back. Bottom line for me - if I need any gear in the future, order from somewhere else.
  5. Was a bit disappointed there were no new colours for the U5. I have one of these in my sights but not crazy about the three current colours.
  6. Be careful Dave. I've bought 3 in the last couple of years. Great basses.
  7. Guitar Guitar have a purple Triad in stock; in the past Andertons and Peach both carried a limited range Reverend basses. I got my Mercalli from Andertons a couple of years ago but the less said about that experience the better! Glad to say the bass exceeded my expectations and was worth the wait.
  8. I think they use SIT power wounds. That's what mine came with.
  9. I have both a Mercalli and Decision P. You're right in describing the Merc as tamer, although personally, of the two, I prefer it. The pickups in the Decision are much hotter but both offer a wide range of tones with the pan control. I don't think you can wrong with any Reverends. Enjoy the new bass. It looks great.
  10. Mine looked like that too and I got it repaired/rebuilt for free. I contacted Chris recently about another matter and sent the message to the sales email address. Had a reply within 24 hours.
  11. Liked Justin Meldal-Johnsen's playing and basses with St Vincent For those who like something a little more left field, check out Yves Tumor. Nice Reverend Mercalli bass: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0c827lg/glastonbury-yves-tumor
  12. Reverend Sentinel.
  13. I have the same guitar and it's awesome. This is an absolute bargain. GLWTS.
  14. I think they are made by Mirr Music in S. Korea. They're well known for producing lots of brands, including Reverend. I have three of those and the quality and tone is superb. Can't speak to the Ashdowns, although the SS jazz had caught my eye.
  15. Just a heads up. I see a Reverend Sentinel SS for sale on ebay starting at £500. I have it in the same colour strung with SIT Power Wounds. That is my go to bass these days - it plays and sounds fantastic! RRP has jumped a bit recently, so might be a decent bargain for someone here.
  16. There were a number of versions of this type of case on Amazon (seems a generic design possibly based on the much more expensive Pelican cases) but this was in my budget and more importantly the right size. Would probably fit a wide range of class D heads.
  17. After several weeks looking for a decent case and a few false starts with electrician bags, I received this yesterday from Thomann. £58 inc. postage. It feels really sturdy, latches are secure and the amp doesn't seem to move about at all. The foam was easy to press out and it fits the amp perfectly. Gigging tonight so, I'm feeling much more confident than carrying my D800+ around in its original, (limited) protective bag.
  18. None! Just 4 strapping lads in the early 50s It's all on wheels with heavy duty covers and the tops and amp is flightcased, meaning bags etc can be set on top. Win win!
  19. +1 for silent stage here too. We did play a few gigs this way before lockdown and all since restrictions have been relaxed. My set up at last week's weddings: Mesa D800+/Behringer P2 going into an A&H Q5. With some tweaking, I've dialled in a great bass sound. I have also have an LD wireless system but prefer the sound quality out of the P2. A very easy load in and out tops it all. We also bought a new PA just before the pandemic kicked off and it has been great to gig it too. All on wheels and takes about ten minutes to set up - https://www.harmonic-design.com/products/systems/hd-hls24-toursys1/ Whole band is using IEMs now and while it did take some investment and time to learn how to use all the new gear, there's no going back. Definitely worth trying it out if you can.
  20. That isn't a Fatfish 32 listed on the Andertons site but the discontinued Raymond. I think Merchant City can order in pretty much any bass that Reverend have in stock. Might be worth contacting them if you really want one.
  21. Unfortunately the turquoise is exclusive to Wildwood. Lovely colour.
  22. Reverend make three short scales - the Wattplower, the Dub King and the Sentinel. They also make a 32" scale, the Fatfish 32. I have written about my Reverends elsewhere on this site and have two 34" scales, a Mercalli and a Decision. Both are great basses but I fancied trying out a SS bass and the Sentinel appealed most to me. I received mine in March 2020. It is a lovely bass to play. Although is is light at just over 7lbs, you can tell that a lot of thought has gone into it - the ergonomics, aesthetics, components etc. and I was very impressed when I first plugged it in and the huge sound it produced. I Regarding the 3 way toggle, I prefer the middle setting. The neck setting is just not a tone that I would use, the bridge I do use for lighter, poppier, acoustic type material but the middle position is the best of both worlds. To sum it up, I would describe the tone, not as vintage but a more modern take on a P bass.
  23. Cheers Mike. My Reverend Sentinel ss is still my number one and the Sandberg is the only other ss that has caught my attention...so far. Who knows what next year brings!
