  1. No im still here! GAS still persists but all the boring stuff is robbing me blind.
  2. I thought I might have bought some strings this year but looked at the email receipt and they were from 2023. Time flies!
  3. Probably because it wasn’t a proper P bass 😉
  4. I thought about bootsy and Stanley before posting. Both incredible and I have music from both, but neither put the bass front and centre quite as strikingly as Jaco (although bootsy’s image might give a different narrative). While he wasn’t the first virtuoso, Jaco was the Hendrix of the bass world in the mid to late 70s.
  5. I tend to use both most of the time 😂
  6. He played on some great records in the 60s/ early 70s, like Chris B I particularly enjoy The Jazz Crusaders music. But Jaco pushed bass playing further than anyone has and that started in the 70s.
  7. That’s exactly why I included the Fender body shape…. If someone asked me what a P bass is, Adam Clayton’s Warwick isn’t what comes to mind.
  8. It’s been debated before, but I think Fender body shape and split pickup in the conventional position covers the P bass definition. A double P is allowed but not PJ or any other pickup style.
  9. Good thinking! Old, new and boutiques! I also forgot to treble the number for flats, nickel and steel rounds. So that’s 48 minimum. Add jazz basses into the mix and you will be into @cetera collection numbers.
  10. If you’re going to get a 5 you need multiple to match all your 4 string versions. No use owning a 4 string maple fretless if you don’t have a 5 string variant handy for those 5 extra notes. Speaking of extra notes, best add 24 fret variants of everything just to be safe. I think we’re up to 16 basses so far 😁
  11. If the OP can make it to BD they have one in https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product/sire-version-2-marcus-miller-u5-short-scale-bass-guitar-natural-2022-pre-owned/
  12. Sire U5 probably a better fit. Squier Mustang classic vibe is another option.
  13. Do you own standing in the shadows of Motown? If not buy that book and a precision with flats and it will all make sense.
  14. Squiers and Sires are both inconsistent with weights. If it’s a potential issue, I’d suggest visiting shops with them in store. I believe they have the same scale length and string spacing which are another two key factors in 5 string comfort.
  15. Sire is a very good starting point. Particularly second hand will retain its value well too should you not get on with it. I preferred the passive version but that’s my preference in all basses.
  16. Out of interest what’s the measurement difference?
  17. I don’t think you’ve spent enough time with one if that’s your opinion. Technique makes up for the lack of electronic sophistication.
  18. Have you got double vision?
  19. I’m guessing on the site he searched both magistrates and crown court listings for the name and it appeared on crown court. We knew he had the hearing. This suggests the judge decided the convictions would be better served at crown court than magistrate level.
  20. A chambered fender bass before sadowsky or anyone did it 😂 https://bassbros.co.uk/product/1976-fender-precision-bass-4/
  21. I hate it when the ads describe what a jazz bass is. If you’re paying for a vintage one, you know the difference between a jazz and a p bass! Personally I’d only buy if they have photos that prove they’re the original pickups.
  22. Just seen the case and candy second time looking. Case is the same as the 2000 fender Dlx jazz I had, and not sure why anyone would go to the lengths of obtaining the tools, catalogues and tags for a £700 sale.
  23. From Andy Baxter’s site: Z0 + 5 or 6 digits 2000 - 2001
  24. If you know of one of the original CV P basses for sale I’d go for that first. The difference will be in the feel and finish but I’ve not seen any bad feedback on those elements of the CV.
  25. If you’re practicing to improve it’s not always going to be fun. If it’s a tricky passage then playing it slowly and repeating while speeding up can be tedious. Learning theory and practicing scales up and down the neck isn’t always musical. Sight reading practice can be fun if you get a good tune but to be effective it should be something you wouldn’t listen to or from an exercise book. The point being, practice inherently won’t always be fun if you’re doing it right, but when you get it all together and your performances improve, it is worthwhile.
