Well I disagree with you but that’s why judges/ jury’s exist. In the poster’s scenario he could turn down the offer of the bass so as not to acquire any new gear… the point of the thread. Mean spirited, from a Scot, blimey! Agree it is just for fun. It’s a difference in opinion and no one is forcing the happy basschatter to return his new bass or leave the group.

Nice story, but this is where it falls down in my head. The online mentioning that triggered the gift was the desired model. I’d say that has an element of choice, similar to you picking a guitar up in store. As above, no prompt as to receiving a gift but a prompt online as to what you wanted even if not directed at your friend. There’s still room for interpretation in the rules that allow it to be judged on a case by case basis. The jury has spoken on this one!

If it’s the rules then fair enough. I think there is an argument on the unsolicited front as it sounds like it was prompted but I hope the accused enjoys his NBD!

I’m not sure, but Bartolini rings a bell. I just remember he was getting so much work for electric upgrades and repairs he thought what else can I do to improve the fenders. Quite a lot it turned out!

They made a 6 burner with humbuckers I believe. Not as common as the 4s though.

I’m the opposite. Right up my street but agree with others that say it’s context dependent.

As @Geek99 suggests the rhythm is the foundation and where I’d start if I had to again. I didn’t learn it well until someone started to write out rhythmic connotations. Once you’ve got rhythms move on to scales. Once you feel ready to read some songs, try and make them ones you don’t know so you’re not sub consciously using your ear.

@Hellzero some great options there. Having heard several fretted carvins that’s the pick of the bunch for me!

Same for me. Probably would have kept mine if I could have afforded to but I did struggle with the first few frets. Mine was fretless and it made intonation quite difficult.

Love the sounds Jeff gets from these basses but always been hesitant that it’s just because he sounds good.
