  1. They should sound very different to each other so I’d say you’ve done the right thing.
  2. That’s the same with any graduate of any industry. You can be shown the tools but only experience teaches how and when to use them.
  3. Can’t stop and by the way we’re huge hits when I was a teenager and I enjoyed listening to them up to stadium Arcadium. My brother also used to have the live at Slane castle DVD which I thought was an unreal performance and have watched 100x over. My overriding feeling though seeing them at the London Stadium a few years ago was they’ve past it and only flea still had the energy.
  4. The VB bass was designed to be zingy at the top end, hence the wood combination. The pickups and pres of that Fender era were known to be poor, my Am Dlx was too. Given how rare the VBs are I would give it a go with the mods made and then change only if you don’t like it but note the woods will have some impact on the sound.

  6. There’s very little opportunity for ‘new’ left. That’s why we see bands/ artists/ performers pushing ‘music’ to extreme limits where it no longer resembles music for most audiences*. Plus you now need to be able to make your product as cheaply as possible to make any sort of living. *although pretty sure many people were saying the same about Metallica when they started.
  7. Lots of music about these days, some good some bad and some indifferent. Some will try to emulate people of the past and others will try and find their voice in an industry where nearly everything has been done at least once. That’s why I think we’re seeing extremes of technique or a musical idea. As ever collaboration is the key to innovation and that’s easier now than ever!
  8. IMO refinish is a repair. The bass isn’t currently as the factory intended so putting a finish on it is getting it back to a state that it was to begin with.
  9. I think the rules were that if it is a like for like parts replacement you’re fine.

  12. It faintly looks like 72 stamped at one point. Would be good to see more pics! I think the 3 bolt tilt came in around 74
  13. Not sure I’d trust anything made on Christmas Day 😄 if it is a 74, at least that would make the black scratch plate correct.
  14. Would his fans have had $7500 available when they were young? Doubt it for most. It’s Ltd to very small numbers which makes it collectible and for only 13 rich collectors who also like the nostalgia it’s a slam dunk.
  15. ‘77 and advertised at £2750. I think you’re right that the colours were an option but the 60s colours were considered unfashionable in this era so haven’t seen any others before.
  16. Managed to screenshot them. The first photo made me think definitely a refinish but the cavities are in keeping with Fender and the body colour under the pickguard has yellowed correctly.
  17. Ah dam. It won’t let me copy the photos, so hopefully someone more tech savvy than me will know another way to share. Don’t think it’s listed anywhere else but it’s only just been listed so might end up on eBay at some point.

  22. I hope not, Andy Baxter has one for only £2.5k! It looks legit but for that price I’d want to be 100% guaranteed of it providence and originality.

  24. It’d be interesting to find out what percentage of recordings have been made on a P bass. I guess artists, producers and bassists all recognise it as the ‘bass sound’ that’s been on millions of records since the fifties. Having said that I think it’s the ultimate gigging bass.
