I can’t believe it’s gone off topic before anyone has mentioned the mastermind behind Letts bass…..qualified luthier or not? 😂

Yet he mostly plays in west end pits… He could be, but I wouldn’t say he’s widely known for it - although I’m not someone who would know that sort of thing anymore. Jeez that hits a bit close to home 😅 They are very well built and the electronics have a flat response which make them very useful for sound engineers to get the cleanest sound possible. Just very reliable in all scenarios.

But I wouldn’t say that makes them any less of a luthier, which is why I thought it was an interesting point because for me that means a luthier is centred around the woodwork and design.

An interesting point because I’ve heard of (people I deem to be) luthiers of solid body guitars/ basses sub contract the paintwork/ gloss of the instruments they build.

I’d trust someone who has studied in a renowned workshop over a college any day!

An epiphone Thunderbird. Bought it after seeing The bassist from The Darkness and Cliff Williams playing Gibson equivalents but with the exception of the hard case, everything about it was rubbish.

Have a look at the spec sheets on the Fender website. The B width neck is my preference too and my 2006 MIM model has one.

Some of the guys I know who tour are so relaxed they could be punched in the face and it not phase them 😂 I lost a few gigs for the opposite approach!

But to be moved by music, you need to connect with it whether through lyrics, arrangement or culturally. If you don’t have any understanding you’re less likely to connect with it. That’s the same for all art or language not just music. I’m not at all more or less intellectual than anyone else on here, but I like funk and some jazz because I’ve learnt elements and I can connect with it. As above your connection could be different.

How are you defining a song or solo as emotion? Is it that it provokes emotion in you? That doesn’t necessarily mean it wasn’t written or played without emotion. Theory (intellect) is just a tool to help you get to ideas quicker or understand the ideas of others (including their emotion at point of writing/ playing).

Listening to music you’re not familiar with is a bit like watching a film in another language. If you cant interpret what’s going on, you’re less likely to enjoy it.

I think there’s some confusion creeping in on the definition of a session musician. My understanding is it has always been someone who is hired to play on a recording at a studio. There are touring guys and TV players that do this too, but not many where it’s their main income.

I did wonder if this would find its way into your hands. It was a good price too!

Forgot about the mono bag! Mine must be 15 years or so old now and has housed many different basses. Most recently my Sire V5.

Puts into perspective how lucky we are to have these luxury items so easy to hand! Still sad that you had to lose the bass in the end.

Audio technica headphones - must have had think 10 years and hopefully they’ll keep going. I did have to replace the ear pads. Cakewalk Audio Interface hasn’t failed since new in 2009! Fender P bass - bought new 2006 and not going anywhere Straps - was surprised to learn recently some folk get GAS for these! Music stand is probably 15 years old now but still fine. Korg tuner only replaced my old one because I left it in a rehearsal studio or venue

Normally depends on the type of band. If it’s a big function band, big band or theatre work then it’s not uncommon. Less common for a pub band or unsigned artist.

Probably different with headless but how do you find the ergonomics between original and flamboyant? I prefer the original shape but flamboyant I expect to balance better?
