  1. Don’t think anyone is saying they’re holy grail. But they’re a flavour modern fenders don’t give or any repros.
  2. He’s playing a Jamerson style line on a similar bass and the objective of the vid is to promote the bass. I thought it was tasteful but each to their own.
  3. I would love this bass for the sound alone.
  4. The foam disintegrated on mine and I replaced it with the auto grab. Just something for prospective buyers to bare in mind
  5. Branding isn’t free! I think most would agree Fender are the biggest contemporary instrument brand of the last century. Of course it offers little to the end consumer other than a sort of guarantee of quality…
  6. I could have done. But the overall standardisation (QC) of the product’s manufacture is one factor that is relevant to the end price. There are also wages, machine v employee ratio, raw materials, shipping, tariffs, desirability/ market value and probably more. All the end buyer sees is the end product, the made in/ crafted in sticker and reputation gained/ lost from reviews. You hear it all the time on BC, “japanese fenders are the best”. Any factors other than the location are made irrelevant due to the reputation earned.
  7. Doesn’t make a difference to the end product but does to a lot of customers. Some customers have built up trust with the Mexican product and therefore may feel more comfortable than buying an instrument from Asia. Not to costs and price
  8. Oh fair enough. Is it just the cheaper Squier range made in China then? I would still buy the Squier, but surely it renders the Fender nothing more than a decal!
  9. Depends if you prefer your bass to be by robots in Indonesia or China? You get more for your money with Squier but will suffer more on resale compared to Fender.
  10. I did balk at the price but there aren’t many opportunities to get one so clean!
  11. If you read that quickly, the “do’s” become bigger and the “nots” disappear entirely
  12. Phew I thought I was out. Popped into a local music store for a strap for a relatives birthday. Realised there wasn’t an exemption for buying others a gift. Then saw straps are allowed so still in 😁
  13. Oh no, why oh why did I click on this thread….. I’m happy with my V5, I’m happy with my v5, IM HAPPY WITH MY V5 😭
  14. That’s for basses right 😳
  15. Just want to chime in on the Fender play sub. Ignore that and sign up to sbl instead. I wish I was a beginner again just so I could learn from their content. Buy the bass that feels good. I’ve owned too many basses but my Fender stuck around because it was the only bass I actually tried in a store before buying. Don’t make my mistake and just buy what your heroes play.
  16. From what I remember some s9 serial numbers covered early 80s too. This one has some transitional features.
  17. Just seen a video and thought the same. People whooping as Sharon gets out the car. Madness
  18. Looks dangerous! Make sure you have protection.
  19. There’s a lot more that can be done too by a professional, such as nut height adjustment or fret levelling. It made a huge difference to my Fender when I took it to the bass gallery in Camden for work to the neck.
  20. This dealer pops up on my FB. They have a gorgeous mint OW p bass just in stock. Some nice gear, although the highest pricing. https://www.guitarbroker.com/product-category/bass-guitars/?fbclid=IwQ0xDSwL13e1leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHkpxgd69CVPoqD0Xlc5W_tuONjkMqIPAQ3VjzdihC7OhQiP5AR25oxzQ4lH2_aem_auajZQqWdeqJA2QvLhmKzA
  21. Interesting, I’ve seen a similar trans orange from fender but not fiesta red. Although I used to have a trans finish jazz bass and I think it was described as crimson red.
  22. Thanks to SBL and TikTok there’s “whipperslappers” everywhere
  23. Hopefully they will give us more details soon @Bass Direct
