  1. Two things here. Pino is notoriously interview shy and isn’t the type to run off story’s like a Guy Pratt. So as a podcast host you would have to fill in the space. Secondly, the host is Questlove who is much more famous than Pino. To hear both share their experiences together was great. The bass questions were tedious but apart from that I thought it was engaging.
  2. It’s all in the fingers as they say! I adjust my tone sometimes just because my ears are after something slightly tweaked in that moment, or my strings have deadened slightly.
  3. Alto Saxophone for sale. It is engraved with Montreux Series II. Had this as a beginner many years ago. Comes with brown case, used mouthpiece, strap, some new reeds, cork grease and a pad saver. Cash on collection from Alsager
  4. I managed to have a lesson with Steve Lawson once (priceless experience) and he played one. You could just see how effortless it was for him to play and it had incredible clarity in each note. I’ve always been put off by the scale length though. I’m on 34” 5 string again and it’s just about comfortable but would probably prefer 33”.
  5. Those prices are sickening. I hope some of them will be played again some day.
  6. Unfortunately I wasn’t the lucky bugger who won £60 odd million last night so I’m still in.
  7. Worse than not having business awareness, it seems from Eddies story he doesn’t have the technical knowledge of making a bass that functions. If you see on Facebook the detailed drawings that Overwater completed for their hollow body design, you can see why there aren’t many that can do it well.
  8. Are basses limited to one each? 😂 there’s some on this forum alone with 20+. If I had a £1 mil bonus I would take home a lot of Andy Baxter’s stock.
  9. Why not talk about top 1%? I’m sure out of 600k, some of them play bass too. The other issue with salary averages is it doesn’t capture all wealth. There are unknowns with huge sums of assets (onshore and offshore) and regular dividends from investments that claim little to no salary. Not all of these will be captured in data/ statistics.
  10. See the post above. I should probably rephrase to; using median average the gap between the highest salary and the average salary would show a higher increase in inequality compared to other averages. I know what I mean anyway 😂
  11. By increase, I meant the gap between the median value and the highest value.
  12. It looks in keeping with its age, although never seen one with flame on the top before. I would say any Fender 76-79 should be tried before bought. There seemed to be a wide tolerance to quality and weight from that era, from my experience and what others have said.
  13. No median would be the average that increases most from inequality. Still, not a discussion for this thread although I do believe that’s a reason why there’s a market for £5k+ basses.
  14. Increased 46% according to statistics. It’s undeniable that the inequality gap has widened, and those with the extra disposable income have increased expenditure in luxury goods. This demand likely impacts instruments as they in reality still a luxury.
  15. I’ve owned one before. It was impractical for me in a lot of ways, but I have to have one again.
  16. Is 6+ hours a day practical? I managed it in my last year of uni but that’s the only time I have. Now I have a few ideas of what I want to practice to improve but often let inspiration guide me to something else if that’s what motivates me that day. I think I’ve worked a healthy balance.
  17. Is there anything that doesn’t prelude “costs a lot these days”? Basses are just following any other luxury product. Edit: Mini Eggs are now £1.50! An increase of 20% on last year
  18. Wow what a cool story! I don’t think I was playing bass at 11 let alone have known what fretless bass is. I hope to have this experience one day. There are two basses that “got away”. One was a Ken Smith at bass direct that eventually ended up in the hands of a very lucky BCer and the other was a one off Philipe Dubrielle jazz type bass which I’ve never seen again.
  19. I think there’s quite a lot of prominent bass players who are admired for what they do, but not loved for their music. They have pushed bass playing further but the music doesn’t resonate so much. This used to be Jaco for me although I’ve now found there’s lots of music he contributed to that I do like. From the opposite perspective, I was also thinking of Michael League, who I admire as an arranger and band leader more than I do as a bass player.
  20. I reckon it’d be resold for £25-30k but not so sure it’d be sold at auction for that much considering the added fees. I reckon the upper side of the estimate is probably in the right ball park, so under £20k.
  21. My least favourite colour by a mile but I’m sure the collectors/ dealers will be all over it because of the rarity.
