I tend to agree. Love my 2006 mex p bass but it has its imperfections. The US basses 2008 onwards stepped it up a gear too.

Markbass CMD 121 p 1x12 combo - *SOLD*

Pedal to turn pages on your tablet while you play by using your feet. I bought this with the hope of getting dep gigs but quit altogether shortly after so it’s never seen use, other than home testing it when I first had it. Also included is the K&M IPad clip which attaches to the end of a mic stand. £50+ postage or collect from Alsager.

Going to regret this but needs must. This is the discontinued markbass 1x12 combo, with little mark 2 head and made in Italy. It has the VPF and VLF filters. It is 300w in current configuration but can reach 500w with an extension cab. But it has always been loud enough for any of the gigs I took it on without. Ive not used this much in the last 5 years as I gave up gigging but have played it occasionally in the house. It comes with a very nice cover (brand unknown) and a Markbass stand. Collection only from Alsager.

Fretless fingerboard wear / string choice?
OliverBlackman replied to Wolfram's topic in Bass Guitars
If the Rotosound rounds are anything like their flats (which were like pulling a bus with one finger) then I suspect that’s it. -
Fretless fingerboard wear / string choice?
OliverBlackman replied to Wolfram's topic in Bass Guitars
How weird, usually it is the complete opposite! I think the less tension the better whether flat or round -
For it to get a mention here I thought I must have missed a Buble’s bass solo. Maybe next year 🙏

Sire V5 off this forum. Only bought this and strings, so no bad purchase 😁 -
I think demographic of group plays a large role in the answers, but I am surprised not to see many mentions of some DB masters like Ray Brown, Ron Carter, Charles Mingus ect.

How difficult would it be to create a knockout contest using the polls? Flea vs Entwhistle, Macartney vs Nate watts, Jamerson vs duck dunn. Start with 100 bassists and eventually we get to the winner (obviously Jamerson).

I’ve messed this up anyway, completely forgot about my biggest influence Rocco Prestia! We’re lucky really to have so many amazing players to learn from
-
I’ve already voted, but Stuart Zender would be in my top 3

It reduces studio time and therefore costs. Gone are the days when a record label would pay for the band to have weeks in a recording studio to get a decent take. Ive only ever quantised on MIDI but that’s because my controller is crap and there’s little consistency.

Fretless fingerboard wear / string choice?
OliverBlackman replied to Wolfram's topic in Bass Guitars
I’ve tried flats/ tapewound but prefer the round wound sound. I use nickel over steel because they tend to be a little smoother so my theory is it will wear the fingerboard less. -
I am in the top .5% of Tower of Power listeners apparently. I was learning 16 of their songs though this summer. Clearly needed a few listens 😅

Normal for a professional studio? No normal for Stoke? Absolutely

That neck would need sanding down for me. I’ve played a few with bumps and scrapes on the neck and find it off putting when playing.

What makes a song hard or easier to learn?
OliverBlackman replied to Phil Starr's topic in General Discussion
Big movements for the fretting hand down the neck usually take me the most time to get accurate.
