  1. My second bass was a P bass but when at uni I decided to experiment with different J basses and the and the P bass was left in the case. Luckily I never sold it because after owning lots of J basses of different types and eras, the P bass had the sound I had been trying to get.
  2. Totally agree with P basses. A 1967 was my favourite. Although very different, the best J basses I’ve played were a 62 and a 78 for both sound and feel.
  3. Is that of competition of music or fame? I’d argue the latter. Very little of the input to reach such heights is musical.
  4. Yep massive. But the criteria was “Our go-to gurus, those unsung heroes of the bass world that lurk in the background either on rekkid or on stage?” He isn’t exactly lurking in the background like Pino does.
  5. I wasn’t sure about MM. Is he better known for his own stuff or as a sideman?
  6. For sure. Especially in Gouche’s case he is on a very long term gig
  7. Adam Blackstone is in the mix for me. But….. I’m told 90% of being a session player is how you are on the hang, how easy you are to get along with and punctuality. There are other added bits such as programming for the production or arranging too, stuff we never get to see from the stage. Unless you’ve hired them, it’s hard to know how valuable they are outside of the hour or so on stage/ on the records.
  8. Small world. I used to play bass for Katie around 3/4 years ago, but moved out of the city. Saw her at Alsager music festival recently and her band sounded great.
  9. I think 4 strings tend to sell better. There’s far more on the s/h market and a 5 string version of a bass always seems harder to get your hands on. I’d expect you’d have sufficient choice at the bass gallery or bass direct. Bass bros have a few now too I think.
  10. Somehow missed this thread first time round and have just read through it from the start. He sounded a top bloke who loved his bass, and it’s sad to hear he lost his fight. It sounds like the work at OW prolonged his enjoyment for a few more years at least.
  11. Weddings gigs are back to back this summer and students won’t have come back. I think the timing is the main issue but Bob Reynolds had a good turnout at band on the wall previously.
  12. When does the museum open for visitors? 😁
  13. Had a lesson with Steve many moons ago and it was great. I hope him a very speedy recovery. He has said previously that his treatment is on the NHS and the best way to support him is to buy his music
  14. How young we talking? At 31 me and my wife were probably the youngest around us. I don’t see anywhere near as much music as I used to in my twenties but still try a few a year. Having said that I’m currently in Barbados and the resort has some great live music (Caribbean) every night.
  15. If you can’t see it fair enough. Difference of opinion ect.
  16. You may have already tried but a query to Fender customer service may get a response
  17. It has been mentioned there are other assistants and I have been served there by others in the past. However, some criticism is coming across as mob mentality against an individual. It’s happened on here plenty in the past though so not sure why I’m surprised.
  18. Attacking the business’ level of customer service is fine but when it is specifically directed at a person it’s out of order IMO. When comments are made about the bigger stores, it is the brand that is commented on, not the person(s) behind it.
  19. I think your problem here is you are asking people who don’t know the answer to your very specific query.
  20. One thing to note, Mark is taking a battering on his personality here in this thread. I dont know him and have never met him, but part of me hopes that he doesn’t read it, because for some people taking this level of criticism can lead to mental health illness.
  21. My Fender P was nice but the pickups were a bit clean and timid. Put in some Lindy Fralins and it sounds more vintage than a custom shop reissue. A new fender will be hit and miss whether Chinese, Mexican or US made. Jap fenders regularly get good comments and my MIJ strat is pretty good.
