  1. You’re right that it’s more trails than grooves. Not really sure if it has an affect on sound/ tuning. If it’s something best left to professionals I’ll probably keep using it until it’s worse. Might decide to get in coated as well.
  2. I don’t think Steve will be paying that to get it back somehow.
  3. Yeh definitely ebony. I had the same thing on a Warwick fretless but didn’t have it long enough to worry about.
  4. You have a pretty new bass so can definitely be let off this time
  5. I don’t like the sound of flats on my fretless jazz so use rounds. Only issue is it’s an uncoated Ebony board and gets the usual string grooves. Are these easy enough to sand down with fine sand paper? Are there any pitfalls to doing this?
  6. They’re both doing their best effort to ignore you
  7. If the cash value is better used elsewhere, sell all but the MM. Unless it’s required for your job, no one needs more than one bass and the MM can cover the majority of styles. Having said that, I had a US stingray for a birthday gift and found it so underwhelming that sentimental value wasn’t enough reason to keep it.
  8. If you decide to go down the route of a custom build with them I highly recommend. I’ve ended up with a bass far superior to a Fender at a similar price and I was able to choose the spec how I wanted (even though I went pretty standard)
  9. I hope this is true. It will make all these years practising on a crappy Squier VM worth it.
  10. Someone please give me a Fodera and I’ll let you know.
  11. Check the neck pocket. If its completely sprayed it usually indicates a refin
  12. Learning theory just gives you a basic roadmap if 1) you are improvising over harmony or 2) you have writers block. Learning music and theory should be a side by side process not one of the other. Back on topic, I’m not at all a pop punk player but was once asked to audition for a very large pop punk gig. The other players I was playing with were all experienced pros of the pop punk scene and I couldn’t believe the level they were at. Technically excellent, fantastic tone (guitars) and on stage energy that was out of this world. I thought it would be beneath me but I was actually way out of my depth.
  13. With a rosewood board it has to be mint p/g
  14. Even with the import costs it’s a great bass. 1 string too few for me
  15. Wow I can’t believe that’s the price! I’ve never had a quote for a Shuker build but always thought they were a lot less than that. Knowing that I like Overwater the new hollow body shape they have would be my choice, all be it a thousand or so more expensive than the Shuker.
  16. Personally prefer the look of the Shuker @Bridgehouse has which is similar and probably cheaper
  17. Always had them slanted because that’s how it came both out the box and when I had the pickups replaced. My guess is that’s what helps boost the mids
  18. All your knowledge of preferences may go out the window with a 5 string. That B string offers a lot of considerations and there are plenty of specifications out there claiming to have the best B string. Neck, scale length, neck thru, active electronics, fanned frets ect.
  19. The sire is just an excellent bass for the money; easy ergonomically where other five strings can be challenging and easy to sell without a big loss if you don’t like it.
  20. I forgot they were banned. Just assumed they were so ugly no one wanted them.
  21. I had a 5 string version from the same era. Very good bass for the money but sold it on too quick when I got something else.
  22. There are loads of sadowskys around but not many Fender VB so you’d struggle to get another if the Sadowsky wasn’t what you thought. I’d wait until you can afford both or at least get to try the Sadwosky before deciding. Those VB were very different to your average Jazz bass and I’ve always been keen to try one.
  23. I would love that bass now as bass number 12, let alone first bass. No wonder you’ve carried on playing
  24. Started using the MB strings after the discount trial on here. Currently have their steels on the jazz which are good value for money on bass direct
