  1. I’m finding it really hard to settle on strings for my fretless. The most recent have been my favourite so far, Mark Bass nickels. I was going to try the DR nickel low riders next, but I love the labella flats. Any one compared these white nylons and the DRs?
  2. I swear dealers take it in turn to raise the prices and then other dealers raise theirs, claiming the market is in demand and therefore pleasing collectors who lap them up as an investment. cant wait for it to burst and buy an original ‘62 custom colour jazz for the price of a new fender
  3. One thing for the OP to consider, P basses often have thick wide necks whereas the Ibanez necks are often very skinny. It might be too much of a change in feel. I’m lucky my p bass bas a B width neck.
  4. For me, turn the tone down (or treble cut on active circuit) pickups biased towards neck pickup and flat wound strings. Hey presto a useable p bass tone.
  5. I really like the look of those basses, but not the price 😬
  6. Does joe go through tunes on this course or is it predominantly exercise based?
  7. Could be an after market scratch plate. Didn’t Olympic white 70’s P basses come with black P/Gs?
  8. What a steal this is! I hope it’s not stolen for his sake.
  9. I’m not a fan of basses with a stunning top and then a really basic rear with awful neck joint.
  10. Easy! Ken Smith BSR 5 black tiger and Aguilar DB751 with DB810. if I did win the lotto I’d also get a Ken Smith BT6 white tiger
  11. I recall that there were cheaper PRS SE models that didn’t seem to take off, but wasn’t this model quite expensive new?
  12. Hip hop? That went in the 90’s. Grime is the current thing, although I really wish it was hip hop
  13. Agreed, and he has moves I wouldn’t even attempt without a bass let alone with.
  14. If I gigged this bass, this is how I think I would look.
  15. That is wonderful. I had a 2007 3EQ stingray, loved the colour but hated the sound. However I recently played one of those 30th anniversary stingray 5s (white one with flame roasted neck) and loved it. Does anyone know if the specials the same electronics or how they compare?
  16. That’s a stunning bass for Fender. For that price though I’d expect the case candy.
  17. I’ve got an overwater custom jazz. Didn’t have any specifics in mind other than; fretless, ebony board, and looking a bit like the bass of doom in its current state. I absolutely love it and the neck is probably the best I’ve played. Otherwise a neck thru 5 string would be nice with a figured walnut top and back, flame maple centre and sides, 34” scale, 18mm string spacing, brass hardware, and Ken Smith pickups and EQ. Fortunately I can get that off the shelf if I win the lottery.
  18. Isn’t a quilted maple streamer basically a Spector? 😂 the reverse P idea would be different, Lee sklars Frankenstein bass sounds amazing, although that could be more to do with his playing. why don’t you have a flame maple body with a quilted maple top. That way the sides and back have the flame.
  19. I completely agree (although I’ve only ever seen pictures of both). But I thought John had stopped building relics and was focussing on restorations only. Bravewood seem to be an improvement on Fender Custom Shop whereas I think limelight is at the Fender Road worn level.
  20. Part of me feels that if you don’t want the bass, then leave it for someone who does. I know this isn’t how it works but it wouldn’t feel right to me to enter knowing I didn’t want it.
  21. I’d ask the builder to see the stock they have. Then you can see the graining and decide which block you like better. I went with flame because I don’t find it as flashy and I was going for a bass of doom vibe.
  22. Awesome colour. I wonder if limelight could do something similar.
  23. Have you tried ebony boards yet? That tends to be my preference although I find characteristics I like from maple and rosewood as well.
  24. I really like that, but then I also really like this: Be nice to have both.
