Five Black Hipshot HB6Y ultralight tuners. These are the 13mm ones. I got them in a trade as I was hoping to start a project to build a fretless but time and money ran out so they are back for sale. They are brand new although when I got them I got them without the original box to save on postage fee's but i have a smaller box to post them in. Selling to raise money. £90 posted.
Stafford is quite some distance away. I think I'd need to take a train to Birmingham and change. It would take me hours to get there, I think.
It really is! Even by car its near an hour and a half. If you're going for one off lessons it really has to be with someone quality and when I lived in leicester I only found one guy who used to teach at the Soundcontrol but he had to stop for health reasons. Might be worth asking in Sheehans if they know of anyone.
The teal ones are proper trans teal, I'm sure there are others?
My old teacher had a teal one and it was the same textured finish as the rest. I've never seen one with a proper finish. Maybe the one you saw was a prototype, or the body had been swapped/ refinished? I had a trans teal MM Stingray and it was the sexiest bass I've ever seen. Kinda regret selling it but it was expensive and wasn't the sound I like.
Are the new ones a patch on the older discontinued subs? I haven't heard much good bout them.
The new ones really lack the low mid punch the old SUB's had. The new ones are god value for money but to me sound a little basic. Whereas the USA SUB's had bags of character.

Slight deviation from the topic, but which bass do you find easier to play? Which has the lowest action or fastest neck? Are the vintage fenders very different in feel or quite similar?
For me it just goes to show that a jazz sounds like a jazz. The only differences really are between pickup spacings. The SX however sounds just as good as the rest, and the fodera doesn't sound like it cost 10x the amount of the SX. For me the it's between the SX and the 62 jazz.

Fascinating. Apart from the Musicman (which sounds different), the others are so close in sound that it would only take a tweak of eq to get one to sound like another. I liked the Fodera followed by the Yammy. The SX sounded a bit thin to me. There's a lesson in there somewhere.
I thought the jazzes had different sounds. For example, to my ears a maple fingerboard will always produced a slightly brighter tone to Rosewood, on a fender bass.

I've always found that vintage fenders have a certain "dark" quality to the sound, no matter what pick up configuration and where you play. Something that I've never found on a modern bass no matter the price tag. Still to check out an Alleva Copollo though. Really have GAS for the tone of a 70's J but I love the feel of playing a Sadowsky! So much GAS

Anyone got a Spotify subscription ??
OliverBlackman replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
You can do what? I've been using spotify for around 2-3 years now and love it. I don't buy music anymore, just stream which is glorious when I have signal (Usually good in central London). But I didn't know you can download music? Thats awesome! -
Berklee..Gary Burton..Improv Course..Free
OliverBlackman replied to Tandro's topic in Theory and Technique
Fairly interesting so far, will be nice to see where it goes. Thought dissing Stan Getz was really funny. Liking the peer review/evaluation stuff, nice to hear different people's takes on the same tune. Dreading getting my peer review feedback though!
How are you doing it? I don't have nearly enough time to transcribe and analyse 5 peoples solo's. -
So I joined up to Berklee tutor and Jazz supreme Gary Burton's improvisation course on coursea.com. Its now been 2 weeks and from what I can tell the concept is ok and there is some useful information. The content however, is quite small, less than 20 minutes of video. Also the content they have released so far you can find from Gary Burton masterclasses elsewhere anyway. Also the deadlines for the assignments and quizzes come quick and fast (every week), and you feel it if you do other things. For example I have been busy learning a musical this week. The biggest problem is that the people who mark your work, are the other students! There are reportedly 40k students and each student has to mark 5 assignments against set criteria. Now this doesn't seem a lot but you are expected to give a deep analysis of how the student solo's over the changes. The solos are 2 and a half minutes each, so who has the time to transcribe and analyse 12 and a half minutes of solos in multiple instruments, in 2 days! Especially when you are supposed to be a beginner at improvisation. They use Gary Burtons name but he only features in the videos and there are no berklee officials monitoring the forums which has lead to quite a bit of confusion. So in conclusion, these online courses are good in theory but seem to lack in execution. I will be sticking to private lessons.

No problem, good luck with finding your bass. You're slightly more fortunate than me as my dream bass is a complete one off that is unlikely to be reproduced, but a car is a must! Again!!!!
I actually traded a few basses and cash for the stingray, like I said I'm using basses to build up to a cash amount of the Kingbass. Which I will settle on believe it or not
Theres a bit of a moral/ethics problem in this which can be frowned upon here. You may find some people are ok with it but expect some people not to be. That is to say if the value of your trades and cash didn't equal upto the amount you're selling for

more likely to be a shed project imo

Agreed, mj was on a huge epic scale. He was an innovator, bruno's just got his style and is great at it.
