  1. I’m stinky poo with tools/ electronics and like a smooth gloss finish. It’d be a complete waste of my time when I could instead be learning tunes. Whereas I can just pay someone who enjoys doing those things to do it really well. Edit: didn’t realise you cannot swear on basschat and it swaps out your words. What a pishtake 😂
  2. Can it be without a scratch plate or is there routing underneath?
  3. My postman is going to be stalked for the next few days
  4. I’m not sure those old jap basses are significantly ahead of current US models though and go for a similar price. I think these days some buy them as an investment rather than seeking the holy grail.
  5. I’ve played a few JVs and those early 80’s Fullerton reissues and I really didn’t see the fuss especially for the prices they go for. But then I like most 70’s jazz basses I’ve played which are often described as only good for firewood.
  6. I had earmarked this because I’m a fan of Stanley but that was hard work. I watched over 10 minutes but couldn’t stand anymore. It’s so badly cut together and produced and there was so little content.
  7. Phwoar! @Al Krow didn’t you want one of these?
  8. So, is no one going to mention the scratch plate?
  9. To improve playability get a fret dress. Most used basses need one, especially if mass produced.
  10. Jesus, set the goddam guitar up before demoing and there might be a nice tone in there. CLANK CLANK CLANK
  11. I guess it depends on our circles 🤷‍♂️ I haven’t seen an ampeg or ashdown on a stage in about 10 years. Anyway back on topic 🤣
  12. Maybe in arenas or stadiums where the artists aren’t paying full whack for them, but the smaller gigs I’ve seen over the last 10 years or musicians I know doing the covers/ function stuff tend to use Markbass, Bergantino, Vanderklay, Barefaced, Aguilar ect. Aguilar is still my favourite amp manufacturer but can’t justify a DB751 or DB cabs.
  13. There was a huge push for lightweight cabs with the introduction of mark bass and bergantino and some brands such as EBS, Ashdown and Eden got left behind. Apparently Trace Elliot were hugely popular at a time but when I got serious about playing they were only known for reliability issues.
  14. Well you can’t not say who this builder is after that. Someone here might be about to pull the trigger....
  15. So far I’ve bought some strings and the basschat strap locks. As the strap locks haven’t arrived yet the strings are currently both the best and worst 😂
  16. He was a fantastic and innovative musician no matter the instrument. I’m sure he worked it out
  17. Definitely not fender, maybe vintage Japanese or Korean?
  18. Even worse then. I see it all the time with Sires, Fenders, Sadowsky’s..... Mostly on eBay or Facebook tbf
  19. For me it’s second hand basses priced similar to new. Bass direct sold a Ken Smith bass for £4999 last year (if bought at advertised price). The person who bought it put a large ding on the bottom and has advertised it for £4750!
  20. Play with a softer touch and just below the neck. I’ve recently tried la Bella flats for the first time and they’re fantastic.
  21. I thought that too. Almost the price of an original similar age P or Jazz. Seller names the price though if commission.
  22. This just popped up, definitely road worn. https://thebassgallery.com/products/fender-tele-bass-1969
  23. Heres some samples of different sounds I could get from the Overwater pickups... Spec is: Fretless - ebony board Body not alder but similar, with flame top - gloss finish Passive pickups with buffer circuit Nickel coated strings (probably 3-4 weeks old) Hand position is always between the pickups.
  24. Yeh I’m very confident the overwater pickups will get close to those tones but also with more clarity and definition in the notes. I would record the same riff on mine for you but; mines passive, fretless ebony board, I’m using coated nickel strings and don’t have fret buzz, so it wouldn’t be a good comparison.
