ahhhhhhhhhh!!!! The only thing making me think twice about that jazz is the lack of blocks and binding. I will always try saving up for the real deal but in the mean time......
Hi, the lightest MB 112 combo is 40lbs. That's ok for very short distances (up a flight of stairs, for instance) but you'll kill your hands and arms and won't be able to play if you have to carry that for even 1/2 a mile. You've gotta get a trolley if you're going to make this work.
a trolleys a good idea. My housemate uses one for gigs in london and says its awkward and he gets weird looks but otherwise worth it. Tbh i get weird looks for just carrying a bass anyway.
The OP seems to be gigging with a 112 as it is! I guess he just wants a lighter one. But Guildford is almost London.....! I don't understand the concept of travelling to gigs on public transport, but then only 1% of my gigs are in London I'd keep the car and your current rig.... ....but if you don't, a Compact on a trolley and a TH500 would be the lightest, loudest and most public transport friendly rig I can think of.
Trouble is that driving to london and back is a horrible experience and i puts me off going to jam nights on a weekly basis. Also all my gigs are in london, so a move makes sense for me. I'd be selling the car as driving, parking, congestion charge ect just seems too much to be worth it. My friends in london use tubes and buses and say its great if you have little to carry. The TH500 is a bit too pricey i think. I will be buying whatever i receive for my Hartke rig, i'd guess just short of £500 and i've noticed the mark bass stuff goes for between £5-600. I'll make sure to pop into andertons and test the difference between the 12's and 10's but i do usually prefer 12's.

I'm moving to london in a few months time and i will be selling the car. Therefore i feel i'm going to need a more portable rig, something i could carry on the tube easily. And i thought of the mark bass stuff, specifically the combo with the 112 cab. I just wondered, are these loud enough for gigs? I'm a tad skeptical as they are so small!
The OC-2 came into being in '82 and looks like it changed from Octaver to Octave in early '84 Moved to Taiwan in '89 I love the BossArea.com website I managed to get an Octaver with box and original stickers for under a ton...noice Si
cheers si, great to know a bit of history incase i can afford to have on of these again in the future. After some interest i have decided to put some phone photo's up. These are rubbish quality for which i apologise but i won't have access to a decent camera until late saturday evening.
Great Price on the OC-2...I'd have it...but I have 3...two of which are Japanese, one of which is the Octaver :-P lol Good luck Si
haha 3! thats awesome. Just out of interest what year did it go from being the octaver to the octave?

This is a first edition of the Flying Tomato fuzz. The pedal can produce from loverly warm compressed fuzz to outright dirty. Condition is slightly cosmetically worn but in fine working order. Selling posted: £50 Second up is my Pro Co Rat USA distortion pedal. I bought the Rat on recommendation from this forum and its fantastic and dirty however, i don't need it anymore. ON HOLD Pics on this link. http://basschat.co.u...83#entry1678883 Ollie

Hello bass chatters, Up for sale is my Warwick Thumb Fretless NT 5. This is the Neck through version with an ebony fretless board. The board is unlined but has dots on this side of the neck. The body i believe is bubinga with a Ovangkol neck. The neck is lovely and narrow which is great in combination with the low action and the body has a rich a long sustain. Electronics are the original MEC slanted pickups and 3 band EQ with passive/active control. This is a LOUD bass which makes emphasising articulation easy peasy. This was my first fretless bass after recommendation from Daf Lewis and if i didn't need the money and was using it more often i would be keeping it! However, a move to london is a must and therefore i will let this go for £1200 ONO. only damage is a very slight wearing to the body above the top pickup where i have rested my thumb. Due to the value of the bass i would like it to be pickup up, or possibly meet half way however, i will consider posting at buyers cost/ organisation. I will also include the Warwick Rockbag that it came with which lacks the straps. NOW FOR THE PICS They're fairly big file sizes though and i do have more, including the ebony fretboard and more body shots which i can email over if you would like. learn to drive? Your going to have to do it at some point so why not now. During sixth form is the best time to do it because if you plan on going to university, you will have NO money. You don't realise how crap bills and rent is until you start paying them. Even guys i know that have gone to uni with thousands of pounds spend it in 3 months.

i do like the fact you've moved the bass department upstairs. Its meant that its easier to get service. I tried one of the squire classic vibe 50's p basses and it was loverly! Unfortunately was only able to buy sibelius.
3 posts into this debate and you have already descended into personal attacks. Congrats. Listen, this is about the interests of the people who run basschat. The reason people don't like advertising on their websites is that they are hijacking their audience for their own personal gain without permission. I'm sure if they did ask them it would be fine but just sticking this advert up without any permission is like stealing advertising space from the banners. Obviously you don't own a website so this is not a concern for you but that doesn't mean it is ok.
You just don't help yourself, let the mods deal with mod stuff. If they need to they will. Why is there a debate about this? Your being offered the chance to win a free new bass! If the guy at Warwick hadn't posted it up someone else hopefully would have anyway, and again, your in with a chance of a free bass!
Absolutely, as mentioned, we're all very jealous of these people and Precision basses are such a good tool for this. It was acknowledging this but noticing that few bass players use it for virtuoso type performances (such the Jaco/Miller/Clarke/Manring type examples given).
I think the reason may be that the precision has always been described as the "classic" bass tone. All these guys have tried to achieve their own sound, and have looked for basses with more tonal options.

Do you consider yourself an "expert" bass player?
OliverBlackman replied to Jam's topic in General Discussion
I like that. Glad it's not just me that feels this way!

I think that you can only call yourself "expert" if you are at virtuoso status on 4, 5, 6 string fretted and fretless and upright. So that's nobody then.
`The trouble is on things like star now where an advert says you must be at "expert" level to apply for this gig. From what i'v found all that means is you need to have the ability to improvise, play various styles, be able to read, and to be experienced at playing in a band. Which is the minimum for any professional gig really. Btw i'm not saying I'm anywhere near what i would class to be an expert and i fully back the comment of the more you learn the more you realise you have left to learn. -
from Wiki, so it must be right, "...an individual who possesses outstanding technical ability in the fine arts, at singing or playing a musical instrument." In this case I would go for soloing types. Not the groove, there are plenty of those we celebrate all the time, the unusual ones who solo on a Precision.
I would say holding a groove is a technical ability. And a lot of the guys mentioned; Pino, Jamerson and George Porter Jr can do it to an outstanding level

1. Do you have any cruise ship/hotel contracts lined up. 2. When do these start? cheers, Ollie

george porter jr? incredible funk!
