  1. Oh is that who they were 😅
  2. So did Coldplay on keys a few times. I found the first half of the set incredibly rushed. It wasn’t the usual slick performance that they put out and on tour they have big name special guests so it’s disappointing they didn’t have someone for Glastonbury. Maybe theyve headlined it so many times they’ve run out of ideas….
  3. She is not a funk artist though….. While some of her arrangements have funk influences she is very much a female solo pop artist. You would expect the same from any of her contemporaries.
  4. At least she used a band. Ann-Marie just used backing tracks which shouldn’t be allowed at Glastonbury IMO. Dua Lipa is in the genre that expects a show, and I think she holy delivered for a long period of time. A bit like a more polished Madonna/ Kylie show.
  5. You must have seen a different sugarbabes lineup to the “highlights” I saw on BBC. The first thing I noticed was how bad the vocals were. On one song the key was too low for the vocal line so it was sung slightly sharp!
  6. Obviously heavily programmed but the bass sounded great too.
  7. Have I missed something?
  8. You have similar taste to me. The V5 is as close to traditional (vintage) Jazz sound as Ive found. Yep only heard of it as phase cancellation but if anyone else calls it insertion loss at least now I won’t run for the hills 😂
  9. IMO the headstock is the only cool bit on a Rickenbacher.
  10. He has a point but are they really that scarce? Andy Baxter has no problems keeping a good supply and there’s been a crazy influx of MM basses across his site and bassbros recently.
  11. One of the good things about basschat is there are fewer timewasters than Facebook. But now that we’ve established that haggling is okay, I’ll give it a go!
  12. From what I know, the 90’s Korean squiers have a terrible reputation. Luckily these days there are plenty of good options for that money new and used. I got my Sire for the same price on here just last year and that’s very good.
  13. Was a new build, had been told upfront there was no wriggle room and really wanted the plot. Could afford it and it was perfect so no didn’t haggle then either.
  14. In both those scenarios it depends if the initial price is fair/ what the other options are. I don’t haggle for the sake of it.
  15. I also often noodle unplugged and I think the weightier body really helps for a lengthy sustain. In regard to P vs J, I find a P body more comfortable and it irritates me that the J doesn’t sit on a stand properly.
  16. It sounds like your time and energy would be better spent elsewhere than involving yourself with this “luthier”. I’ve made much more expensive mistakes than this and sometimes the best thing for yourself is to move on and take the hit.
  17. I have a V5 5 string. pros: excellent sound, feel, hardware is good and sturdy, it was relatively inexpensive. cons: it weighs more than a Fender.
  18. Please don’t search Laurus. Save yours eyes. For saying the Italians are infamous for art, they’re bass guitar designs are shocking.
  19. It’s not a rare enough bass that there are no alternatives available so I don’t know why anyone would spend that. Is this the one that’s been floated around previously where the chap bought it as an investment and left it in a case for 20 years?
  20. How very dare you! Oh hang on…..
  21. If I change stings they are well passed their due date, as it’s the one thing I’m very lazy on. Therefore the bin is the only option.
  22. In general western music it’s relatively simple: learn the 12 keys, chords/ chord tones and scales. Best way to practice this is across 12 keys, ascending and descending in different patterns, speeding up when you’re playing the right notes consistently. Lines are made up of chord tones, passing tones and chromatics, so once you get to grip with the above it’s possible to analyse anything.
  23. I do get that, but my dad loves playing along to the Beatles whereas I don’t like their music. If he had tried to encourage me to learn their songs instead of Nirvana/ RHCP I don’t think would have enjoyed the instrument at all. I find Scott and Ian very engaging in their YT vids but I can see why others would be put off. luckily they have a free trial, so you have zero commitment unless your son wants to continue.
