    i was excited to try out the new shop in epsom. I know a basschatter works there and i dont think he was there when i was today. Firstly i had always been desperate to try a sadowsky, secondly i wasnt going to buy one today but they wouldnt have known. I asked to try a UV70 4 string which for a start was marked up as an M5-24 and as a result had the wrong price on it, about £400 more than it should have been. The bass was ok but i was keen to try out another UV70 and a RV4 to get a better idea of the differences. The guy helped get the basses and put me in a very nice booth with a decent TC stack. This UV70 was over £700 cheeper than the wrongly marked one even though it was exactly the same apart from the rosewood board and colour. The RV4 was not set up propperly. Silly low action and as a result buzzing on the upper frets making it difficult to play properly. I told them of the mix up and the guy said he had no idea about the basses but would look into it. Then i asked the simple question of what colours are the RV4's avaliable in? He had a 20 second look and replied saying he couldnt find a way to find out. It could be a really good shop but when people might be spending near £2000 on a bass these issues need to be sorted. I think if i get a sadowsky it'd be better from here or the gallery. I did like the sadowsky's but i think i might look inot just installing the pickups and pre on my tokai. Anyone else had much experience with Guitar Guitar?

    i went to order some ER 15's. Then i found out after the mould that my ears are too small so they made me some pro 1's. These are the best investment iv ever made, its made practices and gigs much more bearable. The thing with my pro 1s are is they are the size of a 5p coin whereas my drummers ER15's are like £2 coins lol But even if your not playing that regular, the moulded earplugs are worth every penny

Im thinking nice Jazz, Lakland, G&L anything with 5 strings really but Im not a pointy fan nor an Ibby/Yammy/warwick sort of guy. Pics later and for now £725 collected firm or WHY? This includes an epiphone thunderbird, which is probably worse than the flea bass in terms of playability. EDIT: I didnt like the coated neck or the narrow string spacing on the thunderbird.

It's rare any one besides other bassists will even comment on tone.[/quote] i was given some gigs in April because the tone i produce was a lot fatter and suited the overall sound better than someone elses, it is also technique but when you've got a john east at your disposal that does help. And you must be playing with either mute or deaf musicians because musicians i play with always make suggestions or comments on the tone. Usually the clearer it cuts through the better

    The US pickups have a bigger boost on the bass frequecies allowing that huge "dub" tone. That was the only difference i found when i was thinking of upgrading my mex to a US model. In the end i fitted some Lindy Fralins and its my favourite ever p bass

    the thing i find is the differences between the "mid" priced basses (3-800) and those that are £1200+ are very small. BUT, most 1200+ basses are much like the mid range basses but with every part a little bit better. When your a professional you need to have no worries about your bass, it needs to work and work consistently. It also needs to suit the need of the gig/ session. And finally it needs to allow your sound to be equal or better than other bass players. If you lose a gig because someone elses sound is better then it will almost make all the work you put into getting the chops redundant, until you get a bass that works.

    learn your appeggios and scales if you dont already know them. Also learn lots of rhytmic patterns, you can do this just by listening to lots of different genres.
