Luckily you can do both simultaneously. Having said that I had bad technique in my plucking hand for about 6 years, but was able to change it fairly quickly.

Just because you didn’t get on with SBL doesn’t mean he wouldn’t? Pros and cons to everything. Find a really good local teacher and it could be inspiring. Or waste money on one not worthwhile, and he loses interest. Some online content could be inspiring and others dull. I like to use books, but I’ve already been through years of lessons over scales, techniques ect.

Nice Jazz bass ...... options for £500 (new or used)?
OliverBlackman replied to Pirellithecat's topic in Bass Guitars
The neck dive might be a repercussion of the 24 frets because my standard V5 5 string doesn’t have any. I agree about the different body shape compared to a P though. I’d prefer a P body with J pickups and a J neck. I think most Sire basses are heavier than some of their equivalents but I guess that’s how they make them so cheap. -
A lad I knew at uni had a broken tuner on his Squier jazz and replaced it with a 50p coin! That’s technically not buying gear, as the coin is a credit 😜

My thought was replacement body

Did the JVs come with an A width nut? If not it looks likely a repro to me.

I thought Sire basses were made in Indonesia?

Annoying buzz on Bass any advice please
OliverBlackman replied to Robbo's topic in General Discussion
If it is buzzing when unplugged then you can at least rule out electrical issues. It could still be as simple as fret buzz (either not enough relief in the neck or uneven frets), or as has been pointed out, loose hardware. Also worth checking how well the strings sit in the nut. -
One reviewer apparently dropped in store. I don’t know how they did that on the planet Zeb

I changed the standard US pickups in my P bass to Lindy Fralins and it significantly improved the sound. Once you make the change you think why didn’t I do it sooner!

What I see in this thread 😂

Ah I forgot about this, I bought two guitar TAB books off here last month. Do they count as gear?

Due to their mass 5 strings become a lot more about user preference compared to 4 strings. There are so many variations that impact the B string; Scale length, string spacing, neck depth, body size, string trees, neck through vs bolt on, angled headstock and the list goes on. I think you’re wise to start off cheaper and work out what you do and don’t like about it to better educate your choices in the future. I had 4 5 strings before going back to basics on a 4, and luckily the Sire V5 ticks a lot of boxes before I can afford a KS.

I don’t regularly check on either but they’re worth a browse at least. I wouldn’t buy vintage at auction. I don’t want to spend thousands and run the risk of buying a fake or something that isn’t quite what it says it is.

For vintage guitars ATB, No Tom, vintage and rare in Bristol, New Kings Road vintage and rare, classic and cool guitars, Charlie Chandler posts stuff on FB. For odds and sods I know of We Buy Any Guitar in Ashton under Lyne, guitar village in Surrey, promenade music in Morcombe. Guitar Guitar have shops dotted around too.

What sort of guitars are you looking to browse? There’s loads in the UK that are smaller than those you’ve mentioned but specialise in specific areas.

Was the Vigier modded to be invisible?
-
No, but looks legit. Not many P basses had blocks and binding. When did they transition to truss rod access at the headstock end?

Try calling some of the shops in Denmark street to see if they would buy them from you. Wunjo would be a good starter. You would get less money than selling privately but at least it would be guaranteed.

Yep, can see the strap lock from a mile away 😜

When I joined basschat (probably was 15 years ago) I was initially attracted to the bargains that could be had in the classifieds. But I quickly realised that it was because the BC community were passing bargains on to others by selling on for what they paid. I didn’t see much obvious flipping for profit but once I saw it on a sale of mine I lost a bit of respect for that basschatter. Also, I think since the charges came in there isn’t the same basschat spirit that used to exist in the classifieds, all be it with a few exceptions. Apart from being legal, immediately flipping for a profit isn’t a million miles away from ticket touting.

I’ve had a warning. Please advise.

Is it just me or is this Deja vu of a thread from last week? Considering all the benefits available on basschat, it baffles me that anyone would have an issue with paying.
