1.
For that money you could have Aguilars or Bergs.
To be honest mate I tried the bergs as well...to my ears if you're looking for a 'hifi' clear sounding speaker the Vanderkleys are a little above the bergs IMHO. Never tried Aguilars...maybe next time!
My only complaint was 15Kg for a 12" cab is too heavy in my opinion
This...I haven't found anything that's all that much lighter...Aguilars are heavier, Bergs are 1kg lighter and the mark is also about 1kg lighter... PLus with the neo thing goin on it's most likely that all cabs will get heavier again as the companies start having to go back to ceramics...thats a large reason why I decided to buy now instead of waiting.. NCD!

Couple days late on this but last thursday I picked up a new Vanderkley 112EXT from Bass Direct....I fell in love with it! Gigged with it on saturday and it sure filled a lot of space! seems cab design has come on a great deal since I bought my Mark rig about 5 years ago, the bottom end is incredible, even just with one. The tweeter seems much more effective than the Mark Bass ones as well. I liked it so much I'm gonna pick up another one from BigJim on here on Tuesday! that will be my rig, with a LMII head....good times!..see my 2 mark cabs for sale on the for sale forum very reasonably priced!.... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=147608 also bought one of those little MarkBass things that angles the cab upwards about 30 degrees, this made a big difference when using one, as the sound isnt just flapping round my ankles! Haven't seen much love on here for Mark Vanderkleys work....what do you guys think of it? I know it's pretty dear, but they're seriously high quality speakers... Dave
3.
The term session musician has two meanings these days.. the traditional term was soley for recording, now alot of people use it like the term freelance. My advice, network practice, take all the gigs you can, network, be easy to get on with, network and practice and practice recording at home.. much I like said in another thread recording is a different beast to live
Wise words brotherman!.... I hate it when freelance musicians call themselves 'session' musicians with absolutely no grounds to do so! (rant ends)
4. 151 NOW SOLD... 102p sold /b] So I'm finally ending my love affair with Mark Bass (at least for now)! I love the warmth and clarity on these speakers and they have done me well for nearly 5 years now! However with my back getting worse I'm downsizing a little. I picked up a Vanderkley EXT112 from Mark at Bass Direct last week and absolutely love it! so powerful across the whole spectrum!...It seems speaker design has come on a bit since I last made any purchases! I'm gonna pick up a 2nd 112 od BigJim on here next week and that will be my rig!.... Anyway, the speakers...... I'm sure you all know about these, they have practically become the industry standard for bassists of all styles!...here's a link to the blurb on the Mark Bass site Standard 115HR - http://www.markbass.it/product_detail.php?id=30 Traveller 102P - http://www.markbass.it/product_detail.php?id=37 I am a full time working musician so the speakers have been used regularly since I have owned them. Aesthetically they are not perfect, having unsurprisingly picked up a few scuffs over the years (shown in pics). notabley the casters on the corners are scuffed and the front grill of the 102 is a little scuffed. The sound however is still as uncompromising as the day I bought them! never had any problem with them at all and they have provided ample power for gigs from little pubs up to the o2 and Sheperds Bush Empire... If you want any more info drop me a PM.
5. Is there no volume problem without the pre? As I say, there was not a problem with this before I put the pre in.....Am gonna get it to a tech this week as my very limited knowledge is at its wits end! Gonna get it fully shielded while its there as well Thanks for the response guys Dave
6. I did have some earthing issues when I first fitted it but have sorted it. Can't see why earth would affect the volume when the pickup pan is centered... It is a Jazz Deluxe, there is no option for passive mode on the JZ3D Dave
7. Thanks guys, I tried swapping the wires round this morning but it made it much worse so switched it back. It would appear that the pickups are in phase in the current wiring. Any other ideas?! Dave
8. Hi guys, hope someone can help me out here as I'm a little stumped! Installed an Audere JZ3D pre amp into my Jazz Deluxe. It also has Wizard '64's in it. each pickup individually sounds really great but when I have the pickup pan centred there is a massive decrease in volume.... Anyone experienced this? It wasn't a problem I had before i put the new pre amp in. I've email David at Audere but haven't had a reply. Thanks in advance. Dave
9. What pre amp did you put in the Jazz bass?
10. Apologies but this is temporarily off the market as the guy I was gonna by the LM tube from has said he has someone coming to buy it Monday evening (can't be without a head and it's the only one I own)! Finny I will get straight back in touch with you if/when this changes Again sorry for such a quick change. just found out this morning. Dave
11. Hi Guys Looking to move on my LMII head as I am looking to buy the LM Tube. The head has been well gigged with but is physically in fine condition. a few marks on the top but otherwise sounds like a dream! I'm aware these have been discontinued but I can't see a difference between this and the LMIII. Looking for £225 ono. Will get pics up in the morning. Dave
12. Check out Chaka Khans version of Night in Tunisia.... Have some fun blending the synth parts and bass parts together! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZEMoXjl-Xg
13. Have you got any pics of the head in the rack box? just so I can check out the size etc... I have been after one of these for a while, have been using the LMII for about 5/6 years now and just want to add a bit of tube-y goodness! Maybe I'll still my LMII up on here and see if I can shift it! (unless you want it)?
14. Thanks guys...appreciate the help.. My only issue really is getting up there to try it wouldn't be possible. I'd be spending £500 on a potential wing and a prayer! Wonder whether he'd bring it down with him when he moves?! don't think the power would be an issue although the weight maybe as I have the back of a much older man (figuratively speaking of course)
15. Hi Guys, exactly as the title says really. I've been on the hunt for a 2x12 for a while but money hasnt been that forthcoming. I noticed on the bass gear website they are selling a bag end 2x12 for £500 in the moving sale. Anyone got one or heard them etc? Dave
16. excuse my ignorance but I take it they're not actually Fenders? They look amazing...where can you get you're hands on them?!
17. Just seen this on Bass Direct...maybe a de fret? http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...ecial_Jazz.html
18. I've just ordered an Audere JZ3D for my mex jazz deluxe...was very excited, however whilst playing said bass at my gigs today, i thought 'this sounds really nice'!...Now I'm worried that I'll lose that Jazz bass growl on the back pickup/depth on the neck pickup with a 'high end' pre amp... I only say this because i find that my Sei Jazz bass which has an Aguilar Pre and Kent Armstrong J pickups just never sits well in a live mix.. Is it a Fender pre amp thing? Can anyone re assure me? (I have Wizard 64's on the Jazz bass)
19. Try upstairs at the Garage Islington. Not totally central but decent sound and decent rates
20. Bump for a beautiful bass that I would snap if I had the cash!
