1. Yes, at least 10 years old I'd reckon. These must have been one of the basses hit by EBMM's copyright actions.
2. Sounds like it would be worth speaking to Alan at ACG to see what kind of bass he could make for you. Maybe something simple and elegant like a Graft bass would suit you? And he can tailor the electronics to suit you too, depending on what you want. If I was buying new (as I had planned to recently) I'd be going to Alan.
3. Bump, this is for sale only now as I have bought a new bass. £800 or nearest offer, thank you. Can ship at the buyer's expense.
4. I have to say that I prefer the Status sound but it didn't completely blow the Overwater away like I expected it to. If this differences are that minor I'd go for the one which plays best. BTW, I sold my Squier to the bloke you bought your Overwater from, great bloke and great player!
5. That really is as cool as it gets. Looks like it's had a decent service too!
6. Interesting idea, crap band. So they can stick their crap album!
7. I think he is stating that the bass is an ash body with a finish over it as opposed to having a figured wood top.
8. I'll have this if it's still going. I will PM you.
9.
well i don't know because I haven't played one, but I wonder if it sometimes is the plug and play syndrome. A P or a J bass (and other similars) you know pretty much what it is, but is there too much tonal choice on a Al that it bewilders? Felt that a little with the G&L L2000s I've had - something like 18 options - I forget how many with the Big Al -
More tonal choice is a good thing IMO. Like when I got my ACG, it took a couple of weeks to really get it figured out, but I am in no doubt now that it has the best tonal palette of any bass around. Choice is a good thing!
10. For a limited time I am considering selling this for £800 collected with a gator case. Please send me a PM if you're interested
11.
FWIW I'm not a Jaco fan but I thought you got a really good fretless tone from a fretted bass.
I have to say Wayne, that sounded nothing like a fretless bass.
12.
Here are mine: L-R: GA24 5-string, Series I ("Classic") Mark King, Calibas 6-string fretted, Jaco Pastorius (basically a '62 jazz copy) and Calibas 6-string fretless
That is quite a remarkable collection!
13.
Not sure about the John McLaughlin comment though. Early on (i.e. the Extrapolation album) he definitely swung, and if his rythmic feel changed later on it was probably a stylistic choice rather than a deficiency.
And he was so much better for leaving swing behind. That whole swing feel is just so tired and done to death. His wild fusion feel of later years was so much better!
14. Please see my past two posts for photos, I couldn't fit them all in one post.
15. Well, yes. Shops have effectively had to stop carrying the outlandish gear to get by. Selling boutique basses is really an online only proposition now too. I'd love a Luthier's Access Group type thing in this country but there is just no market for it. GAK and Thomann have squeezed the competition out!
16. Some interesting offers so far, I never thought I'd be offered an EUB for a start! Bump for tonight, new pictures coming tomorrow.
17.
WHAT WE NEED IS MORE POST LEVEL 42 TUNELESS SLAP.
Now there is some textbook 'crap slap'. And this is coming from me, a great lover of high speed, triplet heavy slap. That just sounds like a skeleton w***ing in a filing cabinet.
18.
Just DON'T end up like this!
This is clearly an extremely bad rendition of "If This Bass Could Only Talk" by Stanley Clarke, which is a rather good solo piece when it's not played by an imcompetant, shambling fool. Here is an unaccompanied version, it's not great either but gives a better idea of what it's meant to sound like!
19.
Might be worth checking out a couple of 2010/11 Muse live shows, like the Seattle one they did a while back. Although half the time he'll be going through some fuzz/synth pedal
He might as well be playing a Squier P bass given the amount of effects he uses!
