1.
Interesting - Status seem to suffer from a bit of a typecast thing, not that Status should be complaining, Kingy has kept their order books full for years. Chris Wolstenholme is an interesting case - there's not many bass hero types that can sell basses. Is he one of them? Maybe, maybe not. Only time will tell!
Chris Wolstenholme has surely only damaged Status Graphite's reputation. I used to think of them as a conoisseur's choice, juding by their plast clients such as Jacques Bono, Jonas Hellborg, Mark King, Abe Laboriel etc etc. Now that this talentless buffoon from Muse has taken to playing them he is spoiling them and making them look common. That said, they've always been a niche thing and will remain so. Muse don't have the following they used to have and their fans probably won't pay upwards of £2000 for a bass. Unlike the legion of blokes in their 40's who quite rightly worship Mark King and keep Status afloat!
2.
I think Steinberger headless basses will soon be making a comeback worn right up under your chin. The sleeves of your jacket rolled up obligatory (mullet optional).
I doubt it. You won't be seeing those going cheap again. I remember when Wal basses were considered naff and sold for feck all because they were so outdated and unfashionable. Of course, they've been rediscovered now and they'll probably never be there again, especially since they have been elevated to near mythical levels of repute!
3. Love Hadrien's playing but seeing him in this naff funk band context is painful. I'd be happy to hear him slapping in a fusion band but not with these dire funk tunes going on.
4. One of the last 'original' Wal basses here. I considered buying it myself before I decided to look into getting an ACG fretless made for me.
5. I have always loved those Doug Wimbish models. That's another bass on the GAS list, where it has been for years!
6. How are you getting on with the Prosebass?
7. Not my idea of a bargain, it must be said.
8.
I had the pleasure of playing desmonpot's euro, very similar to this one yesterday OMG what a bass, Spanks the pants off a streamer stage 1 A bargin!! Bump
Yes, Spector basses have always blown Streamers into the weeds, and I'm a bit of a Streamer fan!
9. Yes, I do wish Geddy would retire the flamenco thing. It was a neat trick to start with but I do think his basslines have lost some of their appeal and impact post 1993. He still comes up with great lines, just without the wonderful busy sound he used to have with those awesome fills he could rattle off.
10. What exactly is AC's unique selling point? Aside from the comical phallic headstock?
11. Victor Wooten is bloody amazing. Such an awesome talent.
12.
As a few people our saying, why do they insist on that headstock?! It'll be down to some subtle nuance in tone or something, but to me looks bloody daft
I'm sure it's supposed to be a high mass design to help eliminate dead spots but it just looks clumsy.
13. This is what I'm GAS'ing over at the moment, this beautiful ACG Skelf singlecut: I've emailed Alan to see if he can build me something similar.
14. That daft, bloated headstock has always looked naff too.
15.
I very much doubt that the greatest bass player of modern day has paid for any of the fodera collection! I think fodera benefit more from wooten, than wooten benefits from fodera.
I think he probably has, why don't you email Fodera and ask them? As for the show, it's a shame he has had to play a Marcus Miller jazz bass. At least he should have his Fodera back soon.
16.
I think he'd have to cancel rather than be seen with another make of instrument, I bet his endorsement deal has serious T&Cs.
I don't about that, I think he has paid for most of the basses he's had. I think he got one free once that had a fault or a problem with the neck, that was the black bass that he throws about at live shows. Otherwise, I think he can play what he wants. Afterall, he has played a few other basses live over the past few years; Compitos, Steinbergers etc etc. However, it is an insult to Victor to even suggest that he should play a show with some rubbish old Fender when he should be knocking out his tunes of top spec custom basses! It's be like going to watch Miki Biasion do a rally master class and seeing him driving round in a Kia.
17. Geddy Lee and Jonas Hellborg made Wal basses for me. I spent years searching for that Geddy Lee Wal sound, funnily enough I found it by chance when I bought an ACG!
18.
While we're on the subject, somebody just sent me this, check it out.... YYZ with the bass isolated YYZ bass It was posted on Rushisaband.com, along with other goodies Find them here: Rush oddities
It's when you break down Geddy's playing that it becomes clear what a master he is. As good as it gets!
19.
Could try a Wasburn Status , but they're only 4 strings. Very Bright tho'
They never sounded authentic to me, with that wooden neck. Nice basses but definitely not the graphite sound.
20. I hear they're playing The Camera Eye live too, awesome!
21. Or alternatively, another nice bass to put in his hands and see what happens with it?
22. Yes. Going to see them at Newcastle arena with seats near the front, like last time!
23. I was just watching that Derren Brown Faith Healer show earlier today and at the live show at the end of the episode the band's bassist is using a 7 string Conklin Groove Tools bass. There are a few good closeup shots of it too.
