1. There have been a couple of nice F Basses here recently. Not something you usually see on these shores!
2. I've already made my enquiry I will be watching closely!
3. Very cool indeed, you're in a club with Jimmy Haslip!
4. Yes, I've always loved Hartke stuff. I was planning on getting a Hartke rig when it seemed my search for an Ashdown MK500 combo was flagging.
5. This item is now on hold pending a sale, probably on monday.
6. Thanks for the offer on the cab Geoff, but the MK500 has me sorted out for amplification. I am looking for a Kingbass Artist now, as I want to photograph them together and show off what a Mark King loving saddo I am!
Just had a go of one of these today, wow! Probably as good as any jazz that I've played
I'd say so. Thats why I keep buying them! IMO these are far better than the MIM things you get. The attention to detail is excellent, I love the period features like the smaller guage of fretwire (surely this is what gives it such a lovely tactile feel on the left hand?). The neck is nicely finished and is streets ahead of the slightly cheap, chalky feeling neck of the Vintage Modified bass. I don't have the thumb rest for this bass (unless it's somewhere in the gig bag) but it irritated me on the first CV Jazz I had so I don't miss it. This picture below is what made me want one, I like getting it out for the odd old Skool Weather Report song. As I've said though, space is at a premium and I'm currently looking for another top spec bass and I don't have room for six basses!
7. Love these basses (he recorded some Of Elegant Punk with one). Is there a cash price?
8. I used to dream of owning this when Mike had it. Still my favourite bass of his, it sounded 'the best'!
9.
What with a date stamp visible, That does not make you any form of expert if you can't spot that! My pre EB knowledge out weighs all parties involved Fender knowledge if that's the case Chris.
I've got to say Pete, I'm not reading this one particularly well. I'm distracted by Dragon Age II!
10.
How was he supposed to know???
As I said, I've tried looking at both sides of the argument. My legal view is that the buck must stop somewhere, for better or worse. Some onus must be placed on the customer to know what they are buying, if they lack sufficient knowledge then they may take instructon from the seller. And if the seller has done everything in their power to present the item sold in an accurate light, can blame be apportioned to them? Legally, it seems not. As I said, the buck most stop somewhere. OTOH, if I were in Alex's position I'd be angry and probably in quiet talks with the vendor looking for some resolution.
11.
That surprises me, as isn't this pretty much what musicground went to court for doing a lot of, but has just explained by someone (Alex) who has given the benefit of the doubt to the seller that they did not know that this was not what it said it was?
I think the issue with Music Ground was wilful misrepresentation. This seems to be more a case of mistaken identity by a well meaning individual. I'm sure even the Fender buffs amoung us here will admit verifying the age can be difficult even for an experienced eye.
12. I wish Bass Direct got more used stock in, as I am looking to buy a bass at the moment. However, in this case I'd probably suggest that the blame lies with Alex for failing to do the proper research within the time limits alloted by law or prior to purchase. This is me with my legal hat on. On the other hand, if I were in Alex's position I'd feel quite pissed off too.
13.
I think it was an odd decision for Fender to discontinue the Urge model. Hamm only went to Washburn for his electric bass after Fender chose to tale the Urge out of production. I'm sure the Washburn sounds and plays great, but it isn't the nicest looking bass.
Nah, I do think it's fairly ugly. It looks quite plain and quite cheap. Thats a shame, because the Urge and the Urge II were excellent and the custom shop models Stu got from Todd Krause and the Fender custom shop were stunning. I think a big part of the excellent sound of the Washburn is the EMG pickups in the Humbucker/Singlecoil layout. However, I'm sure loads of companies could have done that for Stu. I'm glad he has found a replacement bass he is happy with, but I just wish it looked a bit more 'special' At least he still has those Kubicki basses!
14. People used to harp on about these on TB all time, I always thought they looked cack. Very Fisher Price.
15. Damn, Steve is still an awesome player!
16. I'd go for the Geddy Lee approach. Be supportive but creative in your own right. After all, you're not there as a stooge to prop the guitarist up.
17. Best of luck for a pass then, which pieces did you play?
18.
Yeah, that Stu Hamm model is pretty ugly, but in fairness he's used a Washburn acoustic bass for ages now so it kind of makes sense that he looked at them for an electric bass after Fender made an odd decision.
And what odd decision is that? If I recall correctly, it was Stu who went to Washburn for a bass. Fender have done the Urge II tenth anniversary bass and the Urge was their first signature bass. Stu and Fender's relationship goes all the way back to when Fender bought Kubicki in the late 80's. Stu had been playing a Washburn acoustic bass since the late 90's/early 00's and built contacts in the company who offered him a new signature model. Stu started playing that and moved away from Fender. Please correct me if I am wrong, as I recall reading what Stu had written about how he got his new bass but it's possibly my nightshift hazed brain is remembering things incorrectly. As for Stu's new Washburn bass, it sounds incredible but I don't like the looks at all.
19.
I wondered if anyone had heard of these when i put it on my list - Doesn't it make you want to pick it up just looking at it
It looks incredible, I could spend all day playing it. I imagine the cost will be very high though.
20. I'm definitely more of a Thumb man than a Streamer man. Mainly because I always preferred Spector basses over the Streamers. Okay, so they're very different instruments, but you can only play one at a time (unless you're Michael Manring).
21.
5. Jerome Little, Xavier Padilla Custom - an ergonomic bass has to be in the top 5 braking the mould to fit your body/the way you play it seems a great concept so here it is at number 5.
I wasn't familiar with this bass, so I looked it up...wow! http://littleguitarworks.com/instruments/custom-instruments/
22. I paid £590 for my Thumb BO a couple of years back. Given that it was a 1999 model with a wenge neck and looked brand new I thought that was alright!
