I've never seen a Bartolini pickup with exposed pole pieces.

Truely beautiful! I think it was Fodera who I first saw using Holly, on some Monarch and Contrabass guitars. It does have that incredible effect, and is a brilliant looking wood in the right context! Looks like a stunner from Overwater!

I have always loved that body shape, it is excellent. I always find these ones strange to look at though, without the typical ornate wooden tops typical of Ken Smith basses! I particularly like the Burner basses with the wood tops, these are a real find! They seem to be more scarce than even the top line KS stuff!

You could buy a used fretted Alembic Epic for the price of a new jazz bass, which just goes to show how much you can get for your money if you spend it wisely and buy used!

You should really have more photos of that C6!

I tend to play a lot of originals these days, albeit they are often extended fusion-y jams played and recorded in a studio purely for our own enjoyment. We just don't have the time to go out and gig!

I'd say that Fender are like Volkswagen cars over all. They'll get you from A to B and get the job done, usually with little flair whatsoever. They have a few good models in the range (Urge II bass, Victor Bailey jazz, Zone bass etc etc) but people seem to generally want to stick to the bog standard P and J basses. I'd say jazz basses are perfectly useable, but there are so many better designs out there.

I listened to this the other day, interesting. Is there any story behind the Wal? I always associate Wal double necks with Jonas Hellborg!

Could just be the bass itself and the way you perceive it? My Warwick Thumb sounded a bit like that (albeit not as apparent and lacking in punch). It had so much power and presence in the low mids that the upper registers sounded a little flat by comparison. Certainly nothing to stop you soloing on it, but the design of the bass meant that this was an inherent characteristic.

I traded it for a Status Stealth bass which was good but nowhere near as good as the Kubicki. The Kubicki then came up for sale on the boards for £550 a few weeks later, I was so skint I couldn't buy it back!

Bartolini and Delano would be the obvious choices but they will end up altering the tone of the bass.

Just bought an ACG Harlot bass from Peter today. Met halfway in Haltwistle, and Peter even found me when my sat nav broke and I ended up lost! Great bloke, even brought along his ACG Graft bass for me to have a look in the flesh. I'd absolutely do business with Peter again!

If you don't go down the East route, a Bartolini preamp and pickups will produce an incredible tone.

Is it an ash bodied Corvette though?
