1. This is a smashing deal. My 1999 Thumb with no marks and a Wenge neck cost me £590, just a smidge less than this. If I had the money, I'd be buying this as I desperately want a fretless thumb or a thumb to get defretted! As it stands, I find the the Thumb is a very peculiar bass. Once you have one, you'll be hooked and nothing else will suffice. In amongst Kubicki, Spector, Status and Fender basses, my Warwick Thumb has been my favourite of the lot. I won't let it go, being without it is simply not an option as it is so incredibly unique and "specific" yet so versatile. Don't listen to the guff that people say when they hear Warwick and think metal or funk rock, I use mine for fusion, RUSH, pop, a bit of everything! Cracking bass for a cracking price!
2. I have always loved that version of the tune. The first version of Gracelands I had was the re-isssue. I prefer the original version, bit it is simply without a doubt my favourite fretless bass line of all time!
3.
I was gigging over Rowlands Gill way but I actually live near the coast!
Even better, I'm a Gosforth man!
4.
YES... stop looking and at least come and give it a try; you might hate it!
Isn't Rowlands Gill near Wylam? I might have to pop in during a journey home from work (without the wife's knowledge of course!).
5. Hmm, payday and birthday monies have just been paid in...I need to stop looking at this!
6.
And me what is the diference ?
Streamer Stage one - typically, maple neck and body, often with P/J pickups. Stage two - Afzelia body and neck with wenge stringers in the neck. Also has the "yin yang" inlays. Typically with jazz bar shaped single coil pickups.
7. Oh, the fact that this bass isn't selling just seems to be calling to me to buy it, as if it's waiting for me!
8. I plug the bass in, turn it up to maximum volume and then set the amp, usually flat with a slight boost in the mids if the room is sucking them up. Otherwise, I keep it flat because it doesn't need a lot of tweaking. My main bass is a Warwick Thumb these days, which is pretty much pre-EQ'd to sound amazing by the nature of it's construction.
9. Sounds like you've lent your bass a real asswipe. I was at a gig a little while ago and I had my Warwick Thumb with me. The main band's bassist had a jazz bass, but because he saw a Warwick in the building, he decided to harrass me for most of the evening trying to get me to agree to let him use it during his bands show "because it's tone would suit the venue better". I asked him if he liked Thumbs and when he replied in the affirmative I told him to bugger off and buy his own!
10.
Be careful though, you may end up wearing hi-top white trainers and growing a 70s p*rn star moustache
You might also become one of the most gifted and able bass players in the world too!
11. That looks stunning, but the holes on the headstock for truss rod access look a bit hokey for my tastes. Lovely bit of wood though, and it looks like it'll have a bit of tonal variety in there!
12.
I could charge you £1300 for the Tea/Coffee and you could tell your significant other that the Warwick was free!
You are a most gracious host!
13.
You should just pop down and give them both a blast with no hard sell from me.
I might just do that (with £1300 in my back pocket just incase!). I'd offer to bring my Thumb along but I'm sure it'd be nothing new to you!
14. Neil Peart on "Prime Mover", so good it's stupid.
15.
Simon gave Cheryl some stick last night...terrible song choices for her contestants. He was dead right. Bring back Sharon.
The only part I saw last night was Cheryl in tears after that kid gave a shocking redition of "Bleeding Love", a song which sucked the first time around.
16. Matt is backing Whitney Houston tonight. Of course, I guess this precludes any fusion stuff. But still, good to see a top line talent on the show finally!
17.
I'm not in any great hurry to shift this (in fact after plugging it in just now I'm gonna gig it tonight for a change... unlikely to be any interested parties in Rowlands Gill I suppose ). Shoot me any offers via PM.
Well I'm often in Wylam so thats not too far...though I'd rather stuff a wad of cash in your face for that Streamer you're selling!
18. So tempted by this, I've been looking for something to make into a good, epoxied fretless...this is a huge amount of bass for the money! I never got to try this model but I tried the previous DW models and they were excellent. However, are these soapbar cases with P+J coils inside?
19. I always say when the old "he sounds like Jaco" thing comes up, Jaco was one of the best etc etc...I always try my best to sounds like Jaco...better than sounding like me, a thoroughly mediocre player next to Jaco!
20. I'd love another Kubicki! One of the best basses I've ever owned!
21. As a sort of guideline regarding the price, 4 years ago I bought a 1989 pre Fender Kubicki Ex-Factor here for £600 on the boards (Bassworld) when the economy was doing better. So if that was what was gained for the more desireable model, perhaps your price is just a tad high.
22. A rough price would be very attractice too...
23. Since this one popped up I've been so tempted...if only it had black hardware! It would make a lovely bass to defret as a counterpart to my fretted thumb!
