  1. Lakland released this video years ago when they started using their own proprietary pickups and preamp. Their push at the time was to get the three 'big sounds' all in one bass. I don't think they managed it perfectly, but they managed to get a passable impression of the things they were going for.
  2. That is just mint. If I didn't already have one, I'd have bought that the day you listed it.
  3. This is amazing. How long have you owned it for and where did you find it?
  4. I would be hesitant to sell a lovely bass like the Flea at short notice, but if it's not doing it for you, there is little more that can be said. Suffice to say, I've always thought nice jazz basses were ten a penny but for something a bit more special, you have to sometimes go out on a limb and that can include taking a chance on buying a bass that you're not sure if you'll get on with. You could end up with something that gives an experience far beyond what a jazz bass could provide, or you could end up with more fodder for the classifieds. If you don't think your feelings are going to change any time soon, just flog it.
  5. One of the issues with shops dealing in any sort of volume of instruments is that their margins probably don't account for fine tuning or even basic setup in some cases. Added to that, they often don't have staff who know how to make a decent job of a setup. Sometimes you get a decent setup out of the box and the bass will play nicely, sometimes it's crap.
  6. I had heard that those filter circuits on the early Overwater basses sounded fantastic. Why did they stop offering them?
  7. 34" scale was an option on the Quantum 4 string. I believe it was free of charge but had to be specified. It was a paid option on the 5 and 6 string basses but I can't recall ever seeing a 34" Quantum 5 or 6. I'm sure there will be some out there.
  8. It looks to be in good nick for something that was used in a punk band.
  9. They are just like flatwounds but they sound good.
  10. I can and have done. The 'must have' fretless for me was always a Pedulla Pentabuzz and the one I have is lined. I prefer lines but I'm not lost without them. Indeed, after a little while playing unlined coming back to a lined bass is a little disorienting.
  11. Jimmy has my favourite Alembic tone of all time. Back in the 80's he was playing graphite-necked Alembic in Lee Ritenour's band. The tone was absolutely insane and his playing was unbelievable.
  12. Fantastic, what an insane rock machine. Not one for those with a glass back!
  13. Just listen to Alain Caron with UZEB. That brilliant tone of his is all F Bass.
  14. I guess the current guitarist got the sack so John could come back.
  15. You're thinking of the Streamer - all maple, neck thru, NS body shape, high mass single piece bridge, EMG and active preamp - yeah, very much the Spector recipe! I used to have a Streamer Ltd Edition 1990 model, which was all maple neck thru with two Bartolini soapbars. It was very middy, bright and aggressive. Any Spector fan would have loved it.
  16. I know MEC electronics have often cited as a weak point in Warwick basses but I really don't think they deserve the stick they get. It made sense for Warwick to move to an in-house electronic package for profitability and though I generally prefer Bartolini and EMG pickups, I think Warwick made a pretty good go of developing some decent pickups and preamps for their basses. Certainly, their chosen voicing seems to suit the basses themselves and I don't think anything is lost by keeping an MEC set in place. OTOH, I found Stuart Zender's tone very crappy and bland. I've never seen what the fuss was about with that bloke, but the sound of EMG P/J's can be a thing of beauty - Victor Wooten makes them sing.
  17. My eldest daughter shouts "Jeff Berlin!" whenever she sees him on the television (we watch a lot of music stuff on youtube). He's the only bassist she recognises, other than me.
  18. What a situation. You know these guys better than we do, obviously, and your conclusion that this was all driven by the drummer is probably correct. If this has been pending since your clash over his playing a little while back, he's probably just been maneuvering to sack you since then anyway. The fact that the guitarist didn't have anything to say over the matter makes me think all the more that the drummer was the motivator behind this. I'd tell them to stick the gig up their derrières.
  19. Warwick's range is now more confused than ever. They have a number of different ranges and it may not be clear to the uninitiated just what they're looking at. GPS Team-built is the German-made range, but not the Custom Shop. They are analogous to the old German-made 'basic' range which included everything from the Corvette Standard right up to the Dolphin Pro II and the Streamer Stage II. There are a range of discontinued Korean models called the 'Pro Series'. The 'Rockbass' range is the cheap tut, but even their prices have absolutely ballooned in recent years. They do a Rockbass Robert Trujillo Streamer that retails at nearly £1500! Warwick have always been expensive to buy new, relative to their competition.
  20. Whilst I don't want to appear to engage in some sort of braggadocio, it struck me when trying to think of other notable Basschat basses that I own one, as my Bogart Blackstone has been sold through the classifieds here (although I bought it from The Gallery). It used to belong to Stuart Clayton and he used it in the below video, which has nearly 60,000 views on YouTube. For a small brand like Bogart, that may make it the most-seen Bogart bass in the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDcc2zD62Ag
  21. The one that comes to mind for me is Crazykiwi's old Alembic Series I with a graphite neck. A total dream instrument for me. Another notable one was the 'Miss Myrtle' Status owned by OutToPlayJazz. I remember that one well. Was it sold to another BC'er?
  22. I seem to recall Geoff Gould saying that Modulus' move to fitting truss rods was driven by customer demand even though they weren't needed. Same story with Status Graphite too.
