Exhaust hanger has snapped off the body, a cheap enough fix, but It won't go through another mot anyway so cutting my losses and selling it... Won't be long and ill have another kingbass anyway Always look on the bright side of life
You mean you couldn't pay a bodyshop a frankly extortionate sum of £20 to weld the exhaust back in place? Or have you been living on borrowed time because the car is a hound and would never pass an MOT for other reasons? Either way, you need to check Pistonheads for the Shed Of The Week feature. How to get a great car for £1000 or less...
Triple WAL porn.. enjoy.
I always find it funny that this video pops up in Youtube searches for Jonas Hellborg these days. The original Hellborg group recording has normally been nigh on unattainable online, never mind footage of the band. Anders Nord was a pretty good player too, surprised he never really went further on the world stage. The 'e' record by the Hellborg Group is also very good. I have loads of rare Hellborg records sitting in a box in my spare room, not unpacked since I moved house. I should really get them out and enjoy them again!

jazzers with precision necks....aria stb-jb & what others?
Chris2112 replied to iconic's topic in Bass Guitars
Anthony Jackson's old bass that he played in the 70's was a jazz with a precision neck, was it not? Before he started playing proper basses like the Ken Smith and ultimately, the Fodera! -
I agree that their work is worth every penny, as I said, I had some of my basses done in The Gallery and always was very happy. The thing is that I'm a bit short on cash these days, and on the other side I don't want to ruin high end bass if I decide to keep it.
The real danger here then is if you can't afford to go to the Gallery have the Sei guys do the job, you take the risk of getting it fretted somewhere else, and naturally, risk borking an expensive bass. Which will be the far greater financial loss!

are there any super bands with poor bass players?
Chris2112 replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
I don't see how anyone could rate Adan Clayton as a poor bass player. OK he's not a soloist or slapper, but he's probably one of the most melodic bassists out there.
Pull the other one! -
This footage of Hooky playing it at a benefit gig shows the fingering pretty clearly - I always thought he did the drone on D too, but I don't think he is here, as he drops down to play the final few notes of the riff on the D: - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8BdAUXfO18 The intro/bridge bit is an A - looks like he's doing the octave & fifth as a chord. Cheers, B.
I love the original but that really strikes me as a dire cover. Pete Hook obviously giving it his all but a stiff backing band and dire singer don't help things.
This bass will hold it's value many times better than a car ever will, unless it's a Bugatti Veyron you have. Do not do it Marcus! Ian has laid out all the alternatives above. Don't do it!
A couple of years ago a Veyron would cost you circa £1,000,000. Now, used examples are struggling to sell for £500,000. They depreciate like mad!

That Spector looks lovely.
That Kingbass is quite reminiscent of this :
That was always my thinking. Especially when you consider that Mark King borrowed liberally from Stanley Clark in his early days (Dune Tune, anyone?). The Distillates are lovely basses though most seemed to stay in the US.

The ability to recognise intervals is one of those things the develops as you develop as a musician. It comes with your ear, as you learn a familiarity to the notes you play and the notes you hear. If you want to learn intervals instead of just letting them develop, there is nothing really like repetition. That will get your hands familiar with the shapes, as well as your ears. The problem with humming a song that uses a particular interval is that, even if you can hum it perfectly in your head, you may struggle to either produce that interval from your hands, or indeed, apply it elsewhere, which needs your head...

The thing with Entwistle's bass collection is that he never really seemed to use the best basses he had. The Modulus, the Warwick Thumbs, some of the Alembics other than the Spider basses... His 'bass collection' book is a great tome to own.
All of a sudden fell in love with the sound and looks of the alembic! Really want a series 1 or a mark king model in the original body shape! Best start saving
You'd think you'd never bought that Kingbass. I do love a good Alembic. Even in today's bass marketplace, there is nothing really like a proper Series II with the anniversary electronics. Fantastic instruments and fantastic used bargains!

melvin davis, lee ritenour larry carlton...
Chris2112 replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
It sounds pretty good. It's not like he has been shredding away for the whole song, he gets a little bass break/solo and so does something cool for a bit. When he starts repeating that pattern over and over and the audience loses the beat it becomes a little bit tiresome but they quickly pick up the new beat and it sounds good. He has some nice ideas there. -
Nothing's Carved In Stone, for fans of growly bass.
Chris2112 replied to Shockwave's topic in General Discussion
It just sounds like a jazz bass into an overdriven amp with some compression at the desk to make it sound even. The whole recording is slathered in compression... -
A vid from the woodshed....
I probably sound like a broken record, but that was awesome. Some fantastic phrasing going on there. You can see where your ideas have developed, and how far your technique has come over the past few years since you were making videos with the Thumb. Awesome stuff!
I remember Chris2112 saying how he would play with his old ACG for hours - I can understnad that now, their is something morish about the tone.
That said, at least my sound engineers are now happy when I turn up with my Thumb, I can plug it in and I'm good to go! The temptation to the fiddle on the ACG was immense but I did really enjoy it!

German-Polish Bassplayer Adrian Maruszczyk
Chris2112 replied to marcblum's topic in General Discussion
That blue bass sounds fantastic! And the tune he plays at the end of the video is nice too. -
Most people on an upright bass playing in a band at anything over whisper volume. All you get are a peaky few harmonic mids and the highs, the fundamental of the note usually disappears FOH. Of course, to the play standing right next to the instrument and hacking away, it probably doesn't sound as bad.

BOTH SOLD PEDULLA Pentabuzz / SCHACK Carbon V Custom NT
Chris2112 replied to elbassisto's topic in Basses For Sale
Those Schacks are lovely basses. Kai Eckhardt used one in the John McLaughlin trio in the 80's. It sounded fantastic, a very '80's' sound I would say! Sadly, they went out of production for a number of year, apparently because Andy Schack was in the Koi business but they are back in production again now. -

Hope you enjoy the new preamp, they are very good!
