I think he is really done this time, given how wary he was of doing a reunion at all. I did feel at the time of the reunion tour that he was enjoying himself and reeling re-energised after a few years of not really being able to reconcile with the whole idea of Big Country following Stuart's death. He has gave it a go, it doesn't appear to have worked. Hopefully he will continue to make music as he is superb bassist and one of my favourite players.
From what I gather he was always rather reluctant about the reunion.
Well, he had always said he was only willing to do a reunion if it felt right. But I guess this is the end. It was never the same without Adam, and I didn't think the new singer was great but the band overall were really good when I saw them live in Newcastle earlier this year. I guess he has his reasons for leaving though, and if it doesn't feel right or he's not enjoying it then fair play to him. Still can't find anything about this on the net though.
Just curious if there is a Warwick with a chunky neck other than the double buck model? Most of the Warwick's I've tried have quite skinny jazz bass like necks which I don't mind but I'd rather a more Precision type width if possible.
Try a 4 string BO model after the Millennium. Some of them, particularly Corvettes, seem to have massive baseball bat necks. That said, I thought the 'Broad Neck' on my 2003 Thumb BO would feel massive. It's actually very manageable because it's flattened across the back in a way that won't be unfamiliar to Yamaha TRB owners. Quite a surprise! It's still a handful, though a pleasingly usable one!

I can't remember what it was that drew me to bass. I just decided I want to play it out of the blue. My brother saw how much fun I was having and decided to follow afterwards, picking up a guitar and admittedly being better at his instrument than I was at mine. But we both found masses of enjoyment in playing music. Is the bassist the unsung hero? Undoubtedly. But I think this makes it a captivating part to play. So much power in such a discreet fashion...
Very nice, is he not using TC stuff anymore then?
It could be that the Trace Elliot amp was the only one they had to hand. Or his dalliance with TC could be like his brief flirtation with Eden amps.

That was very good. Nice little bass solo there.

That looks very smart indeed, well done!

Aren't all bass players into Funk and Reggae???
Chris2112 replied to TheGreek's topic in General Discussion
Can't stand reggae. Not much interest in funk. I like 'funky' things like Level 42 etc etc, but I wouldn't sit and listen to 'classic' funk like Parliament/Brother's Johnson etc etc. -

What are you listening to right now?

Quite. Though in Warwick's case, their product is generally very good and I love playing them. Their adverts are terrible though. Their nu-metal-centric adverts of the early 00's were cringeworthy. Traa Daniels as a main page endorsee? Please. They have managed to distance themselves from that long-dead genre now, but their adverts are a still a bit tacky. If they marketed themselves as a high value, slightly niche mainstream brand they would be much better. I think this is how most bassists see Warwick; as an innovative company that has successfully carved a sizeable market niche by sticking to their core values whilst offering something quite different than just another Precision or Jazz bass. But their adverts still reek of trying to tackle Fender as a mass market product. I guess they haven't been wholly unsuccessful, even off the back of these adverts.
He says Toots Thielman told him "you guys finished him off , nobody wanted his thing after slap".
I wouldn't go that far. Maybe no-one wanted to duet with Toots anymore because the harmonica is a bit played out, maybe! But yes, the 'bass hero' thing did take a bit of a diversion from Jaco's jazz stylings, at least in the 80's (though there were plenty of awesome jazz/fusion players around then). I don't think Mark King's awesome bass playing or the fact that Level 42 were really good 'finished' Jaco off though. That downward spiral started years ago. Agree about the video though. Not my favourite Jaco stuff, but I have always thought he was a better 'in' and band than he was at 'being the band'. Especially when he wasn't bandleader. Weather Report, or Joni Mitchell's band, for instance.

You may be surprised to learn that the audience probably didn't care, or notice. Despite the time we spend in our bands, rehearsing the tricky Latin part at the end of Mark King's The Essential or making sure the second movement of Hemispheres is tight, Joe Public probably won't notice. Or care. As long as the vibe is good.

I am really looking forward to this and I hope to contribute to the guitar site. I ask because my brother mentioned again today his long standing wish that there was a guitar site with the vibe and content of basschat. I told him there was a guitar site in the pipeline. It will be awesome. Will our current user accounts span all the sites or will we need to re-registered on each different board?

Did I just dream this, or is this indeed happening? I recall the admin team saying they were working on a new site to go with basschat, aimed at guitarists? My brother has always dreamed of a 'basschat for guitarists'. I hope I haven't just imagined this...
My personal opinion is their prices way exceed what I consider fair for the product. Their custom shop price list is eye watering. I think they advertise too much and have so many endorsing artists I no longer pay attention.
Their pricing is ridiculous for new stuff. Used they are a very smart buy.
the [s]hardest[/s] Smeggiest-working bass in rock? Fixed!
Yep, doesn't necessarily mean it's hard working, just scruffy and uncared for.

Who was the bassist that got up onstage with Larry Graham last night?
Chris2112 replied to Ray's topic in General Discussion
I for one, thought the cocky guitarist made a right prick of himself...
It reminds me of a story I heard after someone had seen Stanley Clark playing in town (and I had missed it, damn). He invited a bassist onto the stage to jam with him, I think the bloke was playing a Warwick Thumb or something. There must have been a workshop on before or something. Anyway, the bloke was just going on and on with Stanley Clark style licks as they jammed over School Days and he was eventually sent off stage because Stan didn't want to jam with someone who was copying his sound. I don't know how much of that is bullshit though as Stan always comes across as a nice guy. -
The dangerous thing with Wal gas is that some people fall in love with the sound but then can't get on with the basses, especially those with a more pronounced 'V' shape in the neck. And they can be pretty damn heavy too! But I love them all the same. I look back and kick myself now, thinking of all the chances I had to grab one before the prices skyrocketed. I always thought 'nah, there is something else I should buy'. Then I discovered the Geddy Lee Wal sound and fell in love, but it was too late.

I have always loved the look of the weave on these basses. Very smart.

I have always thought the 'Precision' name was a bit of a misnomer, especially on the fretless. That big woofly sound, nothing precise about it!
