1. Well I am sad to say I have neither the cash or aught to trade for this right now as I find it captivating!
2. No doubt a stunning bass. My Ltd Edition 1990 Streamer continues to redefine my expections of a fretted bass. It is just superb. I have no doubt this will be similarly excellent!
3. The only thing I am noticing is that there is a lot of unwound string at the bridge end, which brand are they?
4. Absolutely awesome. You'll love the ACG, but I doubt you'll ever forget this beauty. As a former Zoot and ACG owner, I approve!
5. My Fender Jaco bass. Absolutely superb. Never thought I would be so captivated by a Jazz! 6. That song (and Master of Puppets) always struck me as one of Primus' finest moments.
7. The holy grail of Warwick Thumbs...
8. Top quality bass this. Such a shame Schack seem to have shut down completely, never mind stop making their lovely carbon necked instruments. Clover used to make a similar bass too.
9.
Dream Theater's Score DVD with that orchestra was effin' amazing though!
Dream Theater - automatic disqualification! Steve Vai did a thing with an orchestra. But then his live shows always sound amazing and are small scale affairs. More pertinent might be the question of what the orchestra brings to the mix. I have never listened to a Rush song and thought it would be better with an orchestra sawing away for backing. Mind you, some songs on Counterparts and Test For Echo would have me reaching for the 'off' button.
10.
you should learn to use both in my opinion... it is never a bad thing to be good at lots of different styles of plucking! anyone who says real bass player don't use a pick direct them to the nearest video of Anthony Jackson
The whole of this Simon Phillips session is great. Anthony at his absolute best, though this is my favourite tune... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb8k53ZzJbc
11.
Although I'm starting to dig the new CD, rumours that they're touring with an orchestra are gathering pace, which is making me kind-of glad I'm giving it a miss this time around...
That sounds sh*te. I recall the one gig where an orchestra worked (Metallica, S&M). And even then, it would have been a better show without it, and it was a one off event in a venue designed for the acoustic perfection an orchestra needs. Can you imagine how bad a mix of orchestra and rock band would sound in one of the enormodomes that Rush tend to play these days?
12. The neck seems to have settled a little today. It is actually playing very well now. It still needs a tiny bit more height at the first few positions but all the notes are coming out clean and it sounds great. New strings still need to settle down though.
13. Aside from the inane slap, the playing isn't too bad. The band are knocking out forgettable 'fuzak' but the kid is doing a fine job.
14.
Eckhardt
Great player, so often overlooked. He was on fire with John McLaughlin in the late 80's. My 10 Geddy Lee Stuart Hamm Jonas Hellborg Jaco Pastorius Victor Wooten Bakithi Kumalo Mark King Stanley Clark Thats probably about it. As in, there are many more I dearly love but these guys could be 'favourite' on any given day (though it mostly sways between Geddy Lee and Stuart Hamm at the #1 spot).
15. I have traded my ACG Harlot singlecut bass with David for his Fender Jaco Pastorius jazz bass. Quite simply, as good as trading on Basschat gets. I was initially apprehensive about sending my ACG out of the UK to a stranger but I would urge you to deal with David in confidence. Shipping my bass out of the UK could not have been easier (we both used DPD), and it only took a few days. The bass that arrived is simply fantastic. David was always on hand throughout with PM contact, and the matter really was as stress free as trading on Basschat gets. Thanks again David, I love the bass.
16.
Before twiddling the truss rod, how's your bridge for height? Now you need a capo & a credit card.
Gah, things are getting complex now. I have the card but no Capo. It feels to me as thougg the only issue is in the first few positions. Could this be a bridge height issue? I would have thought it was headstock angle that was causing that...
17. I've got it all strung up. The tension has lifted the E string now and I've tuned it to concert pitch and had a quick ditty before putting it to one side. It feels like it will need a little adjustment to bring the string height up around the first few positions but other than that it's going well. I will give it a couple of days to acclimatise now before I start fiddling with it. The bass in question is a Fender Jaco Pastorius Jazz bass so I can't imagine the setup being too hard...I hope!
18. Got the E string on now, it seems to be touching the board in the first three positions. The neck will probably need a move...
19. I've got the neck on now, seems like a solid connection there and the screws threaded in nicely. Now for strings...
20. hello, this may be more appropriate for the setup and repair forum but I thought I would canvas here first as I am trying to get this done quickly. I've received a jazz bass in the post today with the neck off. Truss rod seems to adjust from a small screw at the base of the neck. How best would I go about reconstructing it and setting it up? I'm just putting the neck on now...
