Anyone that played in a 'punk' band, because sloppy musicianship and creative bankruptcy were supposedly 'credible' in the genre. Not surprised it died as quickly as it rose...

ACG basses are amazing. I have had one (traded it recently) and I must say it was one the finest basses I have ever played, let alone owned. I will have another some day, probably ordered from new.

Strange band situation not sure how to react
Chris2112 replied to Chrismanbass's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like it it high time to ditch these cowboys. Hang them out to dry and see how Mr. Dep likes it. -
As much as I dislike Nickelback, the first line of the article reads "A Facebook group for lovers of cured cucumbers has gained more fans the knuckle-dragging Canadian crew. It's like Rage Against the Machine and Joe McElderry all over again" Great stuff.
I agree. As a whole, most dealings I've had on BC have been great. Probably why I was so appalled by this particular incident. Certainly not putting down BC, bought & sold most of my gear over many years on this very site.
Which incident is this? Something referenced in this thread?

Of all the Blaster basses this one looks like the best copy. The picture that usually surfaces of the one with the two piece bridge is dire! I do love Kubicki basses but having paid £600 for my first one (a 1989 18V in white) I wouldn't want to pay loads for one of these. I've had two 1989 18V Kubickis in the past and I have loved them. I might get another one some day! I used to email Phil now and then, I should really have asked him for the full story on these basses. last I heard he had left California and was semi-retired but that was some time ago so he may have retired properly now.

They are absolutely dreadful. The singer is by far the worst element though, she has nowhere to hide in the intro of the first song so you can really hear just how bad she is. The bassist seems pretty tragic though, he is either overplaying or getting it completely wrong. Mind you, rubbish bands like this play up and down the country on a daily basis. This lot have obviously done alright for themselves, they've got their show filmed and have more people on stage than in the audience (including those two hopeless backing singers). Mind you, I've seen some bands that make these guys look amazing. I recall one particularly poor band, 'Dexter and the Revelations', they were so bad they could make a glass eye cry.

I've never really had any trouble like this selling stuff on Basschat. I've received a few laughable offers at times, that are often restated when I have declined them the first time round. But I have mostly found other users very courteous and friendly.

How does your drummer keep the volume down?
Chris2112 replied to mrtcat's topic in General Discussion
Good technique. I am thankful of this as at many gigs I've been playing more 'mood' music for the background than as a 'get up and dance' kind of band. and brushes don't fit every song! I used to work at a hotel that used to have several wedding parties every weekend (especially during the summer), so I used to see a lot of weddig/covers bands playing there and there was absolutely nothing worse than the 'too loud' band, where the amps are cranked and the drummer was thrashing the kit like it was going out of fashion. Nothing put paying guests off faster, either. -
Knackered Barrel Jack Sockets - A Prevention Tip
Chris2112 replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
That's because I changed it before I sold you it Chris!
Quite the handy man! I willbe recieving a bass in a few days with the neck off, would you be able to lend your skills in putting it together/setting it up? You'll get first go! -
That colour has always looked grim!

Knackered Barrel Jack Sockets - A Prevention Tip
Chris2112 replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
That's actually a well documented design features of Warwick basses (I love Warwicks to bits but lord knows how many jack sockets I've had to replace over the years... reflects badly on how many have passed through my hands ).
My one still works fine, touch wood! That said, I use straight ended jacks but I always loop the cable through my strap to take the weight off the end and stop me damaging the socket by treading on the cable. I should get some angled jack cables as I mostly play sitting down now, even live (what a joy that is). -
Its incredible that this happened and very stupid. Mind you I once went on the Ernie Ball forum and asked why my Stingray had so many dead spots. Big Boppa/Poppa or whatever his user name is was straight down my throat within a millisecond of me posting the thread telling me to take it up via a dealer. It didn't help when I told him my local dealer was crap and that was why I was posting on the forum to seek help as his Stingray was unplayable.
Stingrays have such bad dead spots/weak D and G strings...I think it's a case of "they all do that, sir". No fixing them, if they offered a replacement bass for every 'Ray that suffers these faults they'd probably be replacing 80% of all their basses!
I agree with your last sentence Edward, but I will NEVER agree that the bass has to play on the kick drum. The bass can do ANYTHING as long as the band agree it's musical and achieving the songwriter's vision.
Indeed. OP, I would sugges that paying attention to the drums is a good place to start, for now. Get a feel for the drum parts, just listening mainly for the kick drum, the hi-hat and the snare. The 'pulse' will probably be made out on the kick drum and snare with accents on the snare and hi-hat. Once you've locked in with the pulse, start accenting your phrases on the bass in time with the accents given by the drummer. It's not something that will come immediately, but when it clicks you will feel and sound locked in and the drums will feel like an extension of your bass. A tricky thing to write about or explain, though really the way to get locked in with those drums is just to sit and practice with music, and develop your ear. Eventually it becomes a natural thing, you'll be able to lock in with a drummer/drum track very quickly once you're used to it.

Also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUNmgZZS-0E Only a 7 string but Bill has always been fantastic at using them. The DVD that video is from is excellent too, Bill is a fantastic player. He just sticks to that slap and fingerstlye mix, no silly two handed tapping arrangement. Despite all the ERB's in the world and all the OTT tapping stuff, no-one seems to be able to better what Stuart Hamm was doing 25 years ago!
MB1. 'Chris2112' I quite like this amp just for the decoration it provides. It has the Level 42 'Princess' logo on it! ...Meanwhile? Over on Statii somebodys selling the matching Princess Kingbass! Another Warwick then Chris?
Looks like it will be a Fender Jaco Pastorius jazz bass! I think I know the Princess bass you mean, it's not the one with the wood face and the Princess graphic, is it? If so, I thought it looked pretty naff. The Princess logo looks great, but it has to be on a white bass!
