I used to keep my Hohner Jack bass and my Squier Classic Vine Jazz bass in my locker at work and play them through a little practice amp on breaks. I don't get a regular break though (if I get one at all) so eating usually came before playing my bass so I stopped bringing one to work.

It's an issue on 6 string basses like it is on 4 string basses, some will suffer from it and some won't. My Status Stealth 6 string never neck dived as it was so light overall (carbon fibre monocoque construction). Then again, some 6'ers will dive all day, but they're no different from 4 strings in that respect!

The kid sure is talented but I find this whole 'acoustic slap and tap' thing a little played out. It was bombastic when Don Alder was doing it a few years ago though.

Even the most expensive models felt very drab. It seemed liked you got a lot more for your money when you were buying new a few years ago.

I would keep looking for the bass but don't get too obsessive about it. More than likely, were you to play it again it might not be so magical though I appreciate it has some sentimental value. Have you not thought of getting another nice Modulus and making some great memories with that?

The ACG is very easy to get to grips with, as the different controls are 'stacked' so that they make sense (IE. each filter and resonant peak control are stacked, volume and pan are stacked and the dual band treble controls are stacked). On some Alembic basses, they can be a bit of a scattered array, before you even consider adjusting the internal trim pots! Indeed, ACG basses are as fine as any made today. I have been recently thinking about selling mine but every time I get it out and have a play I think 'No, I'm not selling this'. I'm moving house and I worry that any cash I made off the ACG will be quickly forgotten about (and spent on a new kitchen) and in years to come I'll stink look back and think "I had the very first singlecut ACG Harlot..."

Personally, I've tried some Warwicks with Seymour Duncans and some I have enjoyed, some not so much. As Warwickhunt has said, you'd be hard pressed to tell MEC's from EMG's especially with less than new strings. But ultimately it all depends on what you're happy with.

A stunning performance there. His talent on the bass is incredible when you consider that he is primarily a guitarist.

They are essentially very different. Wals feel quite uniform, whereas every Alembic feels different. Both are noticeably hand crafted instruments, though generally Alembic's fit and finish is far better than Wals. The electrics are quite different too, with Alembic often using a far more intricate setup on their basses. Really, they are very, very different instruments.

Rather, some people prefer changing the preamps on their basses but the MEC pickups (and preamps) are generally very good. That said, the best sounding Warwicks I've heard have had Bartolini pickups, YMMV.

Yes, it should be noted that the Warwick custom shop is extremely pricey. What I find crazy is that they will build you say, a Thumb. Ask them for a Bolt on Thumb, built with the same materials in the same way as the standard, off the rack Thumb and you'll get the same bass but at a monster mark up!
