1. Pretty cool. Is that a Warwick Thumb you're playing there?
2. If you're doing gigs at a 'professional' level I don't think you should be drinking before or through the gig. I wouldn't turn up to work pissed, I don't see why anyone who cared about their musicianship would either.
3. Not forgetting the Zon Sonus came back to you John, but I picked up a Streamer from you which is quite frankly the best Warwick I've ever played! Sorry I haven't been in touch about popping down with my basses, things have been crazy at work recently with my rest days getting cancelled...feel like I've never been away from the place!
4. I used to love my headless basses on tight stages. My Kubickis were great too, small body and easily held and protected! I don't mind playing on a small stage though, it's better with electric drums though as you can keep the overall volume down.
5. I think it all comes down to your spidey senses? As we may get 'walk in' traffic from people coming to sell stuff who then stick around. It seems as though recently we have had quite an influx of non-UK users, who can be a wealth of information by tuning us in to local music and luthiers who we may not hear about otherwise. Some new users I would have no issues buying from as they seem quite genuine, I would be less impressed with "hel0, pls by my base, i am selling for my father hu is out of the countryy a tthe minute...plzx wire your funds to me in Nigeria"
6.
Perhaps you should try one of these instead...
As I sit here listening to Erasure and Depeche Mode, this is just the sort of thing I want right now. Though I'd rather have an Oberheim Xpander.
7. Not really bothered, always found them very bland.
8. There must be a story behind this. Someone in London, ring the Gallery and find out what the score is.
9. Probably about two minutes, playing for a Christmas show a few years ago. I was DI'd into the board, the only kit I had brought myself was my bass and a gig bag. After the show was finished I just uplugged my bass, zipped it into my bag and got into my car and drove home. Luckily, the band accompanied the main show, and played songs at various points through the show. It wasn't a bad gig, as once we'd played our last song we could exit stage left and that was it.
10. I have often listened to Shawn Lane and dreamed about being a guitar player. Mind you, there is no way I'd ever be as good as Shawn so I might as well just leave that idea on the shelf!
11. I would definitely go were I not miles away.
12.
my 23 year old !! 1989 thumb 6 which weighs a ton and doesn't balance too well but sounds and plays like a dream.. :-)
This is a real high point for this thread.
13. Also, take a pick incase the Jamerson hook sends your hand into spasm halfway through the set.
14. I'd say good. Okay, some punk music was awful, but it created a creative spirit that allowed electronic music to take root. A generation's ear had been turned away from pop sh*te and ended up focusing on things like Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk and OMD. If we have nothing else to thank punk for, let us thank it for electronic music. Oh, and Big Country, who, in somewhat bizarre move, formed an amazing prog rock band from the ashes of the punk scene.
15. To quote a particularly dull argument, Jaco managed to create beautiful solos on a '21 fret' jazz bass. That said, there are a few things I can think of when I would like 24, and this is my preference. Mind you, I can make do with 23 frets like my Kubicki Ex Factor had, namely because most of the stuff I was doing on the upper most frets was stuff Stu Hamm had done on Kubicki Ex Factors before me! I must buy another Kubicki...
16. Very nice, there have been a couple of these early walnut Thumbs on here recently.
17.
I love Power Windows and everything about it, including the bass sound. Starting to look like I'm very much in the minority.
It's probably my favourite Rush record...after Hold Your Fire!
18. Looks good! Howard has always been a fine craftsman.
19. Speaking of ridiculously low action, I remember a few people on Talkbass commenting on how they had played Jeff Berlin's Dean bass at trade shows and found it unplayable because the action was so low! He makes it look effortless.
20.
Is this experience or hearsay? Im surprised youve actually seen or played one of the 42 MK Fenders.
Hearsay, though I recall seeing some Level 42 board posts from MK diehards who had ordered them from Fender (lucky as it was a very limited run) and found them to be pretty lacklustre in their build. Tellingly, Mark used them for about 5 minutes and then went onto those GB basses, which sounded crap in fairness. (the Ohne Filtre DVD showcases this dire tone).
21. I had a Zoot fretless last year. It was very heavy, but the build quality was very good and it sounded good too!
