1.
Have you considered something like a Zon? Would be very different to anything you already have and would give you all sorts of options for plain or fancy tops, nicely ergonomic bodies and a graphite neck.
Definitely worth looking into. I had a stunning Sonus last year (went back to Warwickhunt eventually, who had owned it before). It felt to me like the ultimate jazz bass and sounded that way too! Light, ergonomic body with a thin fast neck. Growly, modern 'jazz' sounds from the singlecoil pickups. Joe Zon designed it to be the new jazz bass for the 90's, and I think he has been successful in that aim!
2. Nice! It's a bit 'modern' for my taste, all squidgy sounding bass tones, and quick, scattered drum sounds. I prefer a bit more of that Depeche Mode vibe. As I have mentioned elsewhere, I've been jamming with the band over Depeche Mode tunes recently, with the keys player handling synth parts and me playing along and transcribing various parts to my bass whilst singing Dave's parts. It's actually really fun, I suspect with a synth module for my bass I could really stretch things out. Though I might just buy an old-skool synth to play on. Like an Oberheim Xpander...!
3.
Another of my favourite tracks is called 'Take for example this' from a Billy Childs album recorded in the late 80's early 90's. Awesome stuff. check out this video of JJ playing with Lee Ritenour, great groove and a very nice solo around 2.20. I love his bass sound it has a really zingy feel to it.
Lee always puts amazing bands together. Check this one out, Abe Laboriel on bass and Perry singing, absolutely amazing stuff.
4. Right, time to get the Depeche Mode back on.
5.
I drive past the Jaydee workshop daily and it still amazes me how a scabby looking industrial unit can make some of the most famous basses in the world.
The last time I drove through Moffat I was surprised to see that I couldn't discern the ACG workshop. I would have thought they'd have a sign outside saying 'best basses in the British Isles made here'.
6. I look forward to seeing pictures of this, these are really good looking basses.
7. I love those little pop cuts on them too, nice feature!
8.
Some of you have seen this pic.....It is what I am into these days!!!
That pink mk3 is the one.
9. It reminds me of the Mark King Fender jazz basses. Only better, without the woefully bendy necks and shoddy fretwork!
10. Sandberg's California P basses should suit. Particularly the ones with a big humbucker at the bridge, to give that bass some bite!
11. I'd go for the Modulus out of the two. However, I've never really loved the $$ basses. Streamers and Thumbs are much better and I would probably take one of those over the Modulus. Horses for courses, and all that!
12. Yeah, I still think about getting a Jaydee from time to time, whe I'm feeling in a bit of a Level 42 mood. Mind you, that usually lasts until I see a Status and then I'm off again...buying another one!
13. It would be very cool if you could get that bass back. I still wonder where my old Status Stealth 6 string and my Kubicki Ex Factor #1777 ended up.
14.
Wow, just found this pic, it is actually a Spector in disguise! lol http://upload.wikime...reamer_1983.JPG
Even if you compare old Spectors and Streamers, they sound 'different', but there is not the gulf between them then like there is now. This old walnut bodied Spector with Bartolini pickups sounds like a 'hot' Streamer... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aK-QFwaRZc
15. I'm sure Leduc have done a bass with the extended fingerboard like that too, before Ritter did.
16.
Used to play them until I went on to Status...... but they are fantastic instruments. Always wanted a 5 string Calibas Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......
Yes, I should add that overall I've always preferred Status basses, even for doing Mark King impressions on. But then Status make some of the best instruments around!
17.
The entire 'Graceland' album by Paul Simon. Get the Live DVD too!
Yes, amazing album and a great dvd too.
18. I think they're pretty decent. I've always wanted one, but then been put off buying them in the past as I am told some can have very thin necks that bend like mad and need constant adjustment.
19.
Personally I'd take that over a warwick anyday. A one off whereas ww's are ten a penny, so to speak.
Well, I should add that my Warwick is a limited edition model from 1990, from the private collection of Warwickhunt no less...I'd consider it a rare find and one of the best Warwicks you could find! But my ACG has been with me a while, and it's awesome. Those filters are just the thing for when you want to fiddle and create sounds!
