1. Good grief. I just sat down and looked at the ACG for about 5 minutes before having a little play. I had forgotten how amazing the craftsmanship is and how great it sounds. This is no longer for sale, I have to take this down before I make a huge mistake! I'd never find another like it. How silly I have been. My apologies to everyone who was interested.
2. This Arrowhead stuff is pretty cool, I've never heard it before! If you can be bothered to listen to Allan Holdsworth noodling (I can't most of the time) then check out the 'All Night Wrong' live album. Jimmy is pretty superb on that.
3. Michael used to be the bassist from the Windham Hill label back in the 80's and has a massive list of sessions to his name. It's a shame we don't hear more of his traditional bass playing, as he is superb player. However, I really like his solo stuff too.
4. Personally, I would not pay that sort of money to see a covers band. You can usually see the real band for less!
5. Nice to see some of these Spectors. I remember playing an NT Euro at Sound Control Newcastle years ago, back when it seemed properly 'top spec' and came with a price tag of £1000! Crazy to think of the prices on these jumping up. I used to have an amazing Rebop DLX 4 model with a Zebrano top and a high gloss finish that cost me £549 new at Sound Control Preston. Crazyily cheap, they cost double that last time I looked!
6. I'm sure many, many luthiers could perform this task for you. However, the price may be surprisingly hefty, as I recall one luthier saying it was a right twat of a job and took ages to get right.
7. That Thumb is a bery cool bass. Not keen on the other one though. Now, if only Jack Bruce could play them! I remember buckets of scorn being poured on his awful fretless playing years ago on Talkbass, when you were allowed to dislike things there.
8. There will be a big difference. Thumbs play different to Streamer, especially the Streamer standard of which it will feel noticeably more 'high end'. They also sound very different and it is quite true that there is nothing else that really sounds like a Thumb, not even the Ovangkol bodied Dolphins! Really, I think you're just going to have to try one and see what you think. I love them, have had one in the past and I would have another.
9. I always say: "when there is nothing better around, a Jazz Bass might do the job".
10. Were I not after an Impreza I'd buy it. I've always wanted one of these (or an SR 3006).
11. You're right guys, this is a fantastic bass and I am quite attached to it. But after a long nightshift of thinking about it, I think I will be letting this one go. Someone else can have all the fun!
12.
I remember I was wanting to buy this a year ago. . . Did anybody ever get it?
I assume so. I believe it was for sale at Bass Direct or somewhere like that for a while?
13. Alternatively, if anyone has a nice 6 string to trade I may be interested in that. Something a bit different to my usual 4 string fretted basses! I would prefer to sell, but may consider a trade. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.
14. I'm trying to be pragmatic John, and asking myself 'can I keep this'? I should add that I am not struggling for cash, rather I'm trying to save for a house and indulge my passion for performance cars at the same time. I play for a few hours a week and on one hand, it seems a shame to have two beautiful instruments sitting around, especially when I have cash tied up in them. On the other hand, my ACG has a lot of sentimental value (something I never attach to cars!). It is as finely crafted an instrument as you will find and it sounds absolutely superb. As I say, I am not 100% sure I'll sell it yet, but better to guage interest in it. If someone really wants it, I am sure they would find as much enjoyment as I have in it and I'd feel less guilty about having £1000 of bass guitar playing second fiddle to my new toy, the Streamer!
15.
BTW, slightly off topic but this is the best non-Jaydee tone he ever got IMHO. Eden and Alembic. Who'd have thought, eh?
For Mark King, that sounds pretty grim. No top end at all; the slap has no punch and the fingerstyle sounds very muddy. I usually love his Alembic sound but it's not a patch on the mk1 Kingbass through his Ashdown amps. Mind you, Mark's worst tone was undoubtedly those dire GB basses he was using on the Ohne Filter dvd. Absolutely no definition or punch whatsoever, they sounded asolutely crap. I'm not surprised he ditched them fairly soon after.
16. Afternoon all, I've decided to put my ACG Harlot Singlecut up for sale on the boards. At present, I am simply playing my Warwick Streamer more and I only really have need for one bass now, as I have long since stopped gigging live. As such, this beautiful instrument has led a pampered life and is presented in 'as new' condition, save for minute corrosion on the series/parallel switches. I have owned this bass for a long time, if I recall correctly I bought it from Greeneking, who was the original owner of the bass, in October 2010. It has been my longest owned bass for quite some time, and I have vowed many times never to sell it. I must face facts though, that I am simply not playing as much as I used to and my real passion is cars. I am planning on selling my MR2 Turbo and buying a Subaru Impreza, so I thought I'd sell this to offset the insurance hike an Impreza would bring. It is the first Harlot Singlecut shape made by Alan at ACG. You can see more pictures and read about the spec here: http://www.acguitars...uk/Gallery/171/ To order a similar model now would be at least twice as much as what I am selling it for. The high gloss finish and capped back with a set neck are not standard options. I am not 100% sure about selling this as I can afford the Impreza anyway, but it seems like a shame to have two great basses and not have enough time to really play either like it deserves. The bass has just been strung with some new EBMM Slinkys and comes with a Hiscox hardcase. I can post it in the UK at the buyer's expense. There may be a discount for collection. ****Now for trade for a Warwick****
17.
I had severe food poisoning when I did this (live in front of a grey army of OAPs) and could hardly sit on the stool.. which might explain why a lot of it is rather out of tune!
Nightmare, live on television wtih a beautiful woman and all you can think of is getting through the performance without crapping your pants!
18.
Acquired today through Nick Smith my Status MK Artist 4...colour is misleading - more bottle green than the blue in the photos but I'll update these time permitting..
swee' lor'...
19. It does look like a good one, but the price is massive, before you even think of getting it to the UK.
