Which means good news for those of us who like Warwicks, as it means we can get a good deal on them!

Weird looking/sounding fret positions 'Just Intonation'
Chris2112 replied to henry norton's topic in Bass Guitars
No, that article is very old, the bass dates from something like 1990 IIRC? I remember Station Musik in Germany had it for a while. -
Im in with a band next weekend....... If no offers by then and i find myself playing again....... I may have to make an offer..... I loved the Stage 2, but think the Stage 1 would be more suitable
Is there any particular reason you think the Stage 1 might be more suitable?

So.. what was Geddy Lee's last great bassline...?
Given all that I'm quite happy for them to have a "working retirement", having fun producing new stuff and going out to play it even if much of it isn't upto the standard of some of the old stuff.
I couldn't agree more. I think they've earned the right to do as they please, and we can't be too harsh on them these days for merely turning out albums of good songs, as opposed to their old habits of consistently churning out masterpieces. We're lucky to have them, after all. Just over a decade ago, it looked as though they might have been gone for good, and under a cloud at that. -
What are you listening to right now?

The hum of the heating system switching on. I'll go to bed soon. -
So.. what was Geddy Lee's last great bassline...?
Chris2112 replied to wateroftyne's topic in General Discussion
Mypick would be 'How it is' from Vapor Trails. I also reckon it's their best song of the last decade too. The bass part is insistent and driving, yet in the bridge and chorus it backs off and does a wonderful counterpart to the vocal melody. Geddy is really pushing the whole song along, backed by beautiful guitar and drums. If Geddy insists on the flamenco parts, they should be like this. Sadly, although I still love Rush and I enjoy their current output, their music has become a little bit simple. Maybe it's a hangover from Counterparts. They embraced the heavy rock sound on that record and left behind the beautifully arranged, melodic style they had perfected with Hold Your Fire. Since then, they've not got that back. I want Rush to sit down and talk about arranging something, a song that is lengthy and intricate and beautiful. They can still knock out a good riff, but I long for the 'old' Rush, who would write a song that was both catchy and engaging but also very deep, rewarding repeated listens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IDqj0YYa9g -
I'm not sure. Watching some videos of Felix Pastorius playing at a US Bass Day a few years ago, I was convinced it is not.

Has anyone here upgraded their Sandberg? Pickup advice
Chris2112 replied to martfitz's topic in Bass Guitars
You see, this is another internet myth. Bartolini is often being quoted as being dark sounding with a rolled top end.
I don't think it is. I've recently had three basses with Barts, played through the same amp with the same settings. All sounded softer and more 'organic' than other comparable basses. Indeed, my Zon could be so bright it could slice your ears off at 20 paces. But it still gravitated towards a darker, warmer sound. My Warwick Streamer has a lovely midrange growl and the top end is nice and clear, but it's 'musical' rather than sharp. etc etc. EDIT: Mind you, I don't want to get into lazy stereotyping of pickups. After all, there are many Bart pickups and many of the items supplied to high end luthiers are custom wound. So there may not be a 'true' Bartolini sound. But in general, I find them far less 'in your face' than say, EMG. -
I'm not a Corvette fan, due to the shape. Mind you, if you were to get one with a bubinga body and a wenge or ovangkol neck it would sound better than a Fender could ever dream of sounding.

I still absolutely love my ACG. It is the one bass I would never, ever get rid of. I say this not as a fawning owner, but as a slightly jaded player of many, many high end basses that were not as good as the hype suggested, but I firmly believe Alan Cringean is the most exciting bass manufacturer on the planet at the moment. In a short space of time he has created such a following and basses of such a unique vision. I love the fact that I've got a relatively early model, as it feels exclusive but the quality of construction is exquisite. When I think of all the other basses I've owned in the time I've owned the ACG (Status, Kubicki, Iceni Zoot, Alembic, Zon etc etc) I can state that they are amazing basses but not as good as the ACG. That said, this is the only ACG I've played so maybe it's just a one off that is spectacularly good. But the devoted following these basses have would suggest otherwise. In fact, it really needs some new strings. I might have to get in touch with Alan and get some new ones ordered.

Which Basschatters bass would you most like to own? (and why?)
Chris2112 replied to EBS_freak's topic in Bass Guitars
MarkusWarwick has a nice Streamer Stage II. I am of the opinion that one cannot own too many top end Streamers.
