1. Lovely bass. I've always been a fan of these. Maybe I should buy a proper Elrick one day!
2. Ah yes, I see it now that I've zoomed in on the flickr picture!
3. I wouldn't think too seriously about detuning a short scale other than half a step or maybe a step at a push. And even then, you'll likely need some thicker strings to keep it sounding a feeling good. They are neat items on their own but not ideal for detuning. Can you imaging Stanley knocking out low B's on his Alembics?
4. The 'Honky Tonk' label doesn't fill me with confidence but I hope you are enjoy it!
5. This is probably the route I would take if I were to buy another 5 string. That said, I have never really felt comfortable with having the E where the B would usually be. I'd probably just get a 6 string instead!
6. It looks as though this bass is now sold on a multi installment payment plan. Thanks for looking, folks!
7.
I sort of agree with Janek where he said that Bona should leave his bass (especially fretless?) aside, and stick to his acoustic guitar+vocals thing, where he really sounds a unique artist and composer.
Quite ironic that Janek should say something about someone else having a unique voice as a musician, he is as derivative as they come himself!
8. I thought the bass tone was poor and the music was awful, but man, the bassist has a massive pedal board!
9. Yes, I tend to go through phases of playing one almost exclusively and loving it and then playing another a week or two later and remembering why I love that one so much!
10. Indeed. Perhaps why it's a struggle to find a 'great' sounding mainstream record from the past decade, sound quality is just not a concern there anymore!
11. Take the J. In fact, take any Fender unless it's a high end job. If there is big money and a producer who is quite particular about the sound he gets, take a Smith, a Fodera and Alembic and tell him to take his pick!
12. He is an awesome sideman. If anyone heard him on the "Word of Mouth revisited" jaco tribute record, he really kicked ass there. I think he's somewhat overlooked though, as his own songs are never really amazing. It's been a long time since I saw this video and was wowed by those fretless chops, so thank you!
13. If you can get that into the UK I'm sure you'd love it. It looks fantastic!
14.
Could it be this one? At the 12th of august i picked up my MK1 sycamore Wal at the workshop, which looks a bit like flamed maple.
The thing with sycamore is that I find it's a bit more 'white' or pearlescent than maple. The back of my ACG is flamed sycamore, which is quite sharply constrasted against the golden tint of the flamed maple neck.
15. And I hasten to add the bass I saw for £600 was in Guitar Guitar Newcastle, when it first opened. Quite a bargain, given their usual pricing.
16.
This one looks tasty
Thats not doing it for me. Maybe it's the chrome hardware? Surely the biggest gaffe on any bass with a natural finish! But it sounds just like a typical 'jazz on steroids' affair, and I expect something more exquisite from a boutique bass like that.
17. It looks as though I may have an offer to pay for this bass in installments. I intend to respond to the gentleman making the offer in the morning when I am not blasted from a hard day at work. At least that will give me more time to enjoy this fabulous bass before it goes. I've never been the best fretless player but I enjoyed my Alembic immensely and this Zoot bass is fantastic too, though a very different bass from the Alembic. But the dream of having a Cosworth on the driving and being able to say "I owned my dream car" before they are all gone is whats most important to me. You only live once and what is life, if not for experience the most exquisite of luxuries and sating the most wild of desires?
18. The LX is a 'lower end' Streamer but they are still great. The sound is top notch though I prefer them with a high gloss finish. Those are very pretty! I nearly bought a gloss blue LX once. I'd buy that bass over again if I found it now!
19. Heavy, ugly, neck-divey, awful sound. On the positives, I image they would burn quite well on an open fire.
20.
Didn't Jimmy Nail have a Cosworth in the tv programme Spender? BUMP!
Couple of years before my time, that show! Funnily enough, a lad off my shift at work was a cameraman for that show and filmed it all. Another lad on my shift used to be an ice hockey player and appeared as an extra in the show! Small world! But yes, I've checked youtube and he is driving a Sierra Cosworth. I'll be going for a 4x4 version I think. It seemed to me like a better way to have fun than the other big turbo AWD cars like Lancer Evolutions and Imprezas.
21.
Absolutely, im assuming you mean the control cover, & yes all original for that period.
I was referring to the truss rod cover? Is that correct? I don't believe I've seen that font before?
22. The S2 might go up for sale depending on how much cash I need! However, I won't sell the S2 until I've sold this one, but if it needs to go it will go!
23. Hello, I've decided that next year I am going to buy a Sierra Cosworth. As you can imagine, such a feat will require me to spend a bit of cash, and as such I've decided I must cut my bass collection down. I operate a 'last in, first out' policy in respect of my ACG. The Zoot is the last bass I bought and so I thought I'd pitch it for sale first. I'll be honest, I spend more time obsessing about cars than I do about basses! Anyway, I bought this Zoot bass from it's first owner, who ordered it in 1998. The specs are as follows: Neck Iceni carbon Graphite bolt on neck + ebony fingerboard. Nut Bell Brass Nut Width 38mm(Frender Jazz spacing) Fingerboard Flat finished, best quality african ebony, 1/4 lines to edge + side dots, unvarnished on playing surface, varnished to back and sides. Machine heads Black Schaller chrome m4's Body 1 piece sapele mahogony with bookmatch best grade flame maple top finished in high gloss aqua burst fading to black with solid black hi gloss to back Bridge ABM in black chrome with Shadow piezo's fitted to saddles Control Knobs Schaller black chrome knurled with centre dents Pick up Bartolini MM4C Switch 3 way-piezo only/piezo and bartolini/bartolini only Controls Bartolii TCT module bass/mid/treble (all centre dent for flat) and volume Strap buttons Schaller locking in black chrome Battery 6v from compartment in back Hard Case You'll notice that it has a carbon fibre neck with an ebony fretboard, which gives the stability and even tone of carbon fibre but with the woodiness of the ebony fretboard coming though. The Bartolini electronics are superb, and the Piezo mixed with the magnetic pickup is a very cool sound. The bass in is very good condition, the only thing of note is the varish has lifted slightly on the edge of the neck where it meets the ebony fretboard. I suppose the wood has expanded mildly over the last few years. It's a purely cosmetic issue, and if you're inclined quite easy to refinish yourself. I would like £800 for it, and I'll include shipping in the price too, to anywhere in the UK. I may entertain a slightly lower offer if you ask nicely. If I decide that the Cosworth is well within budget I may de-list this bass. Thanks for looking! Chris
