1.
What is the bass bridge type? Picture might help with alternate non-drilling solution.
I'll try get some decent bridge photos tomorrow
 2.
Yes, just went up in 0.5 mm increments until the strings fitted. Is very easy. If it was a really valuable vintage instrument I would not do this. I would het a replacement bridge and modify the replacement this way - keep the original bridge unmolested.
Yeh i don't fancy drilling the bridge, knowing my DIY skills i'll end up ruining the bridge. Thanks for the suggestion though
 3.
A bit of Googling suggests that Rotosound string will fit basses with a narrow gap as the B & E are tapered slightly at the ball end. There are, of course, fully tapered strings where they're tapered before the bridge but I don't know if there are downsides to them?
Yeh i've got Rotosounds on my bass just now. They were fine but lost theyre 'spark' after about a month. Well to my ear anyway.
 4.
Have had this same problem on two basses (5 string & 4 string). In both cases I sorted the problem by drilling the string hole wider until string fitted.
Ooft sounds a bit drastic! Did you use a regular drill bit?
 5.
Had this problem with my Thumb 5 - B and E were too wide. I Squished them with a pair of pliers and it fitted fine but the next set of strings will have to be tapered windings at the ball end. Anyone got any recommendations (ideally bright, strings suitable for roack)...?
I tried squishing them slightly with the pathetic pliers i found around the house but that never worked fancied a set of Elixirs as everyone i've asked have given them a great review for longevity which appeals to a lazy man like myself.
 6. Hello fellow Basschatters! Looking for some wisdom here or the blunt truth if needed. I took delivery of a set of Elixirs for my bass (5 string). I took off my B-string and when i went to put on the new B-String i noticed the string near the ballend of the string was alot thicker than my older string. This is the same across all the new strings. The rest of the string fits through the bridge fine but the thicker bit at the end doesn't. I can't expand this part of my bridge and i don't have a string through body. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Alex
 7.
There is a small roland one that seems to get reasonable press... it's name escapes me... The thing is - I doubt lightweight, small and long battery life are going to be your problem. A battery powered amp that makes your bass actually sound like a bass is going to be the problem. All the small battery combos are going to produce a nasty honky clank.
Roland Cube?
 8. With Ergonomic Tuning system
 9. I've got my Peavey Milestone III. Not the best bass by any means but being my first ever bass it has sentimental value Haven't taken it out the case in over a year now.
 10.
That looks like a good TE pairing.
Hope so! I'll give it a blast later in the week

 16.
I want one as my 4 string is soooo good - do you know of any for sale?
Don't know any for sale at the moment it's a great bass as a 5-Stringer aswell IMO
 17.
Anything more than £100 is too much. Generally I'd expect £60-£80
Thanks Merton might try my bartering skills out
 18. Anyone know what price these would usually go for on the second-hand market?
 19.
One of my first ever gigs - village hall youth club dance, I leant against a fire door & disappeared into the car park, nobody missed me until I came back in swearing & slammed the door
That cracked me up thinking of that scenario
 20. I do like that!
