  1. There is a 350+ page thread on all things Yamaha BBs...so yes, there's a bit of love there!
  2. Fender derived stuff - obviously Sire gets a mention here, branching out slightly, G&L L2500 is the literal swiss army knife of basses. Can do all the sounds and tones. Slightly more modern - MTD Kingston, again will do everything you need, but the 5ers tend to be 35" if that is a deal breaker for you.
  3. Ah, yes - that will do it.
  4. I am yet to see one, so what is the issue with the finishes?
  5. As I commented on the other threads on these basses - really solid release from Spector. Like the colours and especially like the the P J on the 5 string. Interesting choice regarded the difference between bolt on and thru beck for the LX series. Guess it adds more variety to the range
  6. Oooooooh - very nice! Any idea of price point for these? (and the new Euro LX)
  7. If anyone is in Glasgow or close by - I've heard a certain guitar shop in Merchant City already has these in stock, should you be very interested 😅
  8. I know this is coming from a point of personal preference - but Squier are doing something different and I think their base range has improved under the increase pressure from exactly those models you've mentioned. And those mentioned don't look like a Jazz bass, which is what shifts models for Squier. And after all this, it could be absolutely rubbish and be discontinued after the first run 😅
  9. I reckon if I was looking for a new 5 string, I'd be going for one of those or the Elrick 5. Seen them on sale a few times and the used values are even better!
  10. Watching LCD Soundsystem and the bass player is getting some mighty tones from his Serek!
  11. Nice work! Where did you source your gold scratchplates?
  12. Bit of interesting story here that might interest the Grabber fans
  13. In all honestly - it won't feel that different from your current bass. Especially those close backed tuners don't inspire much confidence. Not many modern basses use them as they tend to be cheap. Also managed to find the advert for that bass on Reverb and it's listed as having a rosewood board.....I'd avoid it. If you want a better P-Bass and are happy with spending £350, try and get a Squier Classic Vibe or go for Sire P5. Not sure where you're based, but I always recommend trying to go somewhere and try and few different things, might be surprised by what you like versus what you started learning on!
  14. To each their own, but noodling unplugged leads me to bad habits. I'd also look at getting a NUX Mighty Plug and some headphones and keep that with the bass.
  15. If you're in Glasgow, I can't recommend Stephen Devine enough. He used to work with Jimmy Moon and he's just a lovely man. I've never seen frets so shiny! PXL_20240605_144652024.mp4
  16. I've got a HB neck on a bitsa I made and it feels brilliant. Would recommend one if you needing a neck! Easy enough to sand off the logo if you don't like it.
  17. It is SO close to being worth it. But I just don't need it. I know I'll regret this at some point but I'm sure they'll pop up 2nd hand. Have to hand it to them, selling over 4,000 of these in a moths is really impressive.
  18. I had one and whilst I haven't owned Cali, I have played a few and it's not quite the same quality, but really not far off. For around £400 they are probably one of the best P or J basses for raw materials. Add in that the are already routed for active electronics they should provide a good platform.
  19. With Peach Guitars selling these new below RRP and now the first adopters selling for that price, these must easily be one the best value instruments going.
  20. Private group - how much pricey?
  21. Missed a trick by not creating a sub-brand called Abassi. Looks cool though.
  22. Looks cool! Neck dive - might have to bite the bullet and upgrade the tuners to some form of Ultralites.
  23. I did up an older Bronco and I imagine this is better than those were. These have a proper bridge, and better looking tuners, so it will definitely do a job. Will you want to change those bits and maybe the pickup? Probably, but they can be done on a modest budget and make a big difference. If you can find one 2nd hand you're on to a winner!
  24. Have to say, not many other options for something like this. Plus it looks good to boot! https://www.notreble.com/buzz/2024/05/10/eastwood-guitars-teams-with-seye-adelekan-for-the-classic-5-seye-signature-bass/
  25. Yeah I paid £113 if I remember correctly.
