I am only going to reply to this thread when Marcus keeps a bass, or does not express an intense desire for a new one, for three months. . .
Amen.
I think I will be watching this very soon then
Just finished watching it, I thoroughly enjoyed it and any other thrash fans should enjoy it too.

I've just started to watch the episode which focuses on thrash, within the first few minutes they are in the SF rehearsal studio for the Bay Area thrash bands and already Testament and Exodus are heavily featured. Fokin" Awwwsom!
Marcus, there's no point asking this question, you already know enough to make this decision, you are not a beginner. The fact is, there is no 'best bass for metal', or anything else. Instruments are very personal things, it has to feel right, sound right, look right, be reliable, and overall be right for the applications you will put it too. I don't like P necks, so a Jazz is what I go for. I almost never use the bridge pup but it's useful for some little effects and harmonics I do. I get the impression you have no real idea of what bass you want, I think you just like buying and selling them. If you play much more you may find that any bass with certain characteristics you favour will be suitable, and as bass it will be relegated in your mind to be just a tool. GAS is most prominent in quiet periods.
+1
Thing is my favourite basses are Jaydees and status' but I like to have a 'normal' bass too, so I'm in between a squier jazz or precision....
Well keep in mind that you won't sound like Mark King on either a jazz or precision.
Aye, I know the price of SS2's. It would be instead of my SS1, definitely not in addition to it. ... and that's a fair point regaring the lack of tone control in passive mode.
Well here's a good example of the sound of a SS2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kICLkq7jCCc
Thank you for your responses folks. I suppose I'm thinking out loud here, but it's good to have the perspective of others. Aye, a cheap Jazz to gradually upgrade, alongside my SS1 might be the way. Another thought. The Streamer Stage 2 has the Jazz Bass JJ pickup configuration, and the newer models have a switchable pre-amp (by way of a push-pull knob which switches from active to passive modes). I know that it wont sound like a Jazz but it might get me a bit closer. Perhaps that's a compromise. Does anyone know what year Warwick changed to the switchable preamp in the Stage 2 particularly? And if any Stage 2 players have any thoughts on this I'd be glad to hear them. Moran taing!
I'll just say that if you can't afford to get a jazz right now then there is no way you'll be able to afford a SS2, they're easily one of the more expensive Warwicks. And having had an SS2 all I can say is that if you want a Jazz bass sound then you're better off getting a Jazz. SS2's sound amazing but they will never be able to give that passive single coil tone, I'm one who thinks Warwicks sound nasty when switched to passive as there is no tone control.
Buy a cheap Squier or MIM Jazz, then upgrade it as financial circumstances allow...
+1 I can't recommend a CV Jazz enough. Great basses even before you make any upgrades.

I always find that I'm pining for a Jazz when I have a Streamer and vice versa. The solution is simple, have both if you can. It's worked a treat for me
Had one of these for quite a while and gave it some serious stick. It's perfect for small to medium gigs. Great sound and lots of combo for the price. Especially this price. Buy with confidence. Josh is a great guy to deal with.
Thanks Keith Bump.

Hey all, I've had this combo for just over two years now and it's been great but it is now surplus to requirements. There are a couple of problems with it though, ever since I've had it there has been a slight buzz and recently it seems to have developed a loose connection somewhere as it cuts out a little but a tap to the back seems to sort it out. It's only left the house a couple of times but has never been played loud in anger. There is also a slight cosmetic issue due to an old vocalist leaving his straighteners that he thought he had switched off balanced on top of the amp and as such melted the plastic. Aside from the issues listed above the amp is in pretty good condition. Thanks guys, Josh.
